Great little motor! I used it years ago in a 52” Edge 540 spinning a 11x5. Decently powerful. I got it in the same conditions as yours, replaced the bearings and removed the flywheel to save some weight. Ran amazing! I currently have a 120nx in a Funtana 90 with same results.
I haven’t heard good things about these..but it’s hard to say. Sometimes I wonder about “beginner engines” and if they are marketed to someone who doesn’t know how to tune them, or break them in. They run em once, crash the plane..lose interest, blame the engine for conking out..must be a crappy engine. This will be a fun test!
@@dmrcflyr2 Right, but it's old..and is now time tested. The FP was marketed as a "simpler" engine, with less performance, but still the same OS quality (even in those days). Maybe an entry level price point, but mainly light and simple The evo has a lot of training wheels on it like you say..definitely marketed to someone who hasn't ever tuned an engine. I've only really heard bad things about them..but maybe when all the training wheels come off, and it get's a proper run, it might turn out to be ok. We're counting on you to figure this out :)
I took the training wheels off and the baffle out of the exhaust. It ran very well, video yet to be edited and posted. On an APC 10x6 It was turning over 13,800. Now it’s longevity….unknown. I have a playlist for an old XY engine. Look that up. I tried like hell to kill that thing and was unable to. This engine will also be my new XY engine; one to just beat the living crap out of and see how much it can take. th-cam.com/play/PLsvn3JGZAOMsHJNuMBoVOsUjeU0JgrH8G.html
The best way I could describe Evolution is "It's an engine, nothing more" It'll start and run just fine. No real high end power, no real bottom end torque, mid range RPMs. Just, an engine.
I had one of those for a while, I thought it was a decent engine. It was on an Arrow trainer. We would try to make trainers a fast as possible and pylon race them. It did best with an APC 10.5x6.

looking good

Well the OS 40 FP was a ‘beginner’ engine and it was one of the best engines ever produced.

@@dmrcflyr2 That's awesome! Can't wait to see it rip!

I believe it is going to be an engine that I love to hate. ;-)

I ran this yesterday. The three blade prop is a waste. I had it turning over 13,500 with an APC 10x6. I also removed the exhaust baffle.
Looks like really low time run, possibly never flown only a couple of tanks on the ground. Less than impressive engines but worked just fine.
I had sort of wondered about those engines and how they compare to others. Not that I want one... Just curious is all.
Well it ran fine yesterday as you will see when i post the video. Longevity…. Unknown.
