    You all misunderstood the Jay-Z comments. He was talking about Beyoncé (rightfully so), but also talking about Black people as a whole being snubbed by the Grammys. That was the bigger picture you all missed that’s what the Grammy needs to get right. Black artists dominate the music industry the Grammy’s should reflect it.

    • @boogiedownjj

      I love James and obviously he has a right to his opinion but I often find his take on racial inequality disappointing. I don't know if it's because he grew up with a challenging sense of racial identity or because of how they perceive race in England but yea. I also wish Rem was more thorough when presenting his trash news. Like if he had a full sense of the stories he brings up. Sometimes he's looking up basic notes in real time. But it's just for entertainment. It's not journalism, but I think it would really improve the integrity of the show if he did.

    • @tosh4771
      @tosh4771 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +33

      Yep. Beyonce and other black artists keep winning the R&B categories but never the main ones. A grammy voter said they don't vote for Beyonce in the big categories because she wins too much. That's dumb because she only wins the "black" awards. Mariah said years ago that they said the most popular album would win, but then when the R&B became the most popular, they changed to saying the most "artistic" albums should win.

    When Fuhad said he had PTSD everytime he heard his parents’ keys in the door, YEEEES! I have tried to explain this feeling to people so often throughout my adult years. I had so much anxiety with just sitting down to do nothing. I couldn’t relax and just watch tv or chill without intense feelings of guilt and feeling like I should be doing something or I’m going to get “caught” or something. And I realized it was from when I was a teenager and I would instantly jump in the air off the couch and busy myself with something every time I heard a car door outside. I had my first son as a teen and my parents really hammered it home, the message of, “you’re a mom now, mom’s don’t sit down, moms don’t rest, you have no you time, etc.” I understand what they were trying to do for me and I’m sure it was helpful in some ways, but it certainly did some damage simultaneously.

    Respectfully, a lot of ppl missed the point in where Jay Z was going in his speech. He wasn't talking about himself. He was using his wife as an example. He was speaking about our culture and how the metrics (goal posts) are moved for US. He's also using show up as a double entendre, show up to the event, and show up in your art. He's speaking on behalf of the culture because of the position he sits in. I personally didn't hear the speech like everyone else heard it. #ForTheCulture

      Yeah, not that I don't believe that Jay Z is coming from a massive position of privilege, but when he said 'some of you don't belong in the category' I thought that was more of a comment on how music by black artists is often shoehorned into 'rap album of the year' or 'r&b album of the year' when the music is actually more pop, country, or alternative. However because of the colour of your skin, the only category they're going to give you is rap

  • @megancarter6588
    @megancarter6588 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +40

    I feel like the Grammy convo was missed cause when Macklemore won best Rap album over Jay and Kanye and Kendrick and think that was the reference. Not this year. And when Lemonade lost AOTY and Adele mention that on stage too. I think Jay was mentioning it as a whole- not complaining about “we have this so we deserve that” but “if you can recognize us for all of this how the hell can we not win AOTY?” just the blatant disparity between Black artist and everyone else and our standard here in the USA.

So many factors, not just weight, height, age, but also medical history, mental health, and even childhood trauma can affect physical strain. The body is so much more intricate than just working out. I know James says it’s not fair but the human body is so incredible that their body is doing what it needs to do for each of them and maybe Fuhad needs more strain, Ellis more recovery, etc. These men are putting in the work and that’s what matters most!!

    Just an fyi. Beyoncé did not have any music submitted for this years Grammy awards. Her album came out in 2022, she got 9 noms and won 4. I think Jay Z’s statement was more in a general sense. In 2023 she toured the album. People are confused thinking she would get noms or awards in 2024 with no music submitted. I think for them it’s more the fact that she’s never gotten recognition for a “whole body of work”, since she puts a lot into creating cohesive albums, more so than random singles. I.e “album of the year” award is the one she really wants and feels truly reflects her body of work, whenever she drops a project.
    But at the same time, the woman has more Grammies than anyone on this planet. Think it’s very personal for her, since she’s the one putting together these very well thought through projects.

    I think the Grammy thing, Beyoncé was used as an example for how the metrics don’t make sense when measured on black people. he was talking for black people as a whole not Beyoncé alone.

    • @checedeno1278
      @checedeno1278 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +80

      I think this was the point they missed...he used Beyoncé as the example because how could she win the most Grammys but not album of the year? If she isn't able to what does that say for other black artists trying to enter the category? Shame they missed that point but they are only human

    • @chy8427
      @chy8427 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      @@checedeno1278yeah I think a lot of people (outside of the pod) are ready to see what J & B do as anti-black, doing the most, begging it etc and maybe sometimes they are I don’t know, but with that mindset it’s easy to not see things for what they are but see your bias confirmed instead. In this case I think the majority of the internet ran with it. That may have also filtered through to the guys here when reacting because they’re usually really good at playing devils advocate but like you said, we’re human and we can apply grace.

      I hated their commentary on this. Black women already have to work 1000x harder than their white colleagues… Beyoncé has changed the music industry, marketing, and performance standards. She employs and supports BO businesses and creatives collaborates with B songwriters and producers and puts people ON!! And you chatting bout T swizzy 😮 who can coast with her yt ness, be accepted and not have to do as much as Beyoncé or B people. J’s acceptance speech was encouraging to keep pursuing excellence and setting the standard as WE already do.

      @@belindakae724 girl I hear you. That T Swift comment bothered the hell out of me and I was extremely disappointed, but not surprised. Black men praising a yt woman for the minimum but disparaging a black man for defending black people and using his black wife as an example for how hard they/ we all have to work to be seen as G.O.A.T.S. But hey, they have 56 Grammies so shut up

      Also, Jay Z did say he was nominated for awards when DMX dropped 2 of the number one albums in one year. He boycotted the Grammys. They should have watched the whole speech.

    @kendrawoodfolk-anthony6351 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +34

    They are missing so much of the racial context of this Grammy convo. You’d have to be a Black American or know how the Grammys have snubbed Black Americans to get it. Jay was using Bey as an example not just talking about how the two of them have or haven’t won things.

      Like that some Grammy voters refuse to give Beyoncé album of the year even though they think her album is the best because she’s won a lot. Even though she’s primarily won in urban categories. They’re essentially telling her, she’s good for a black woman.

    When I was in preschool my mom dropped me off and she thought that she could quietly leave. I turned around to show her something and I freaked out and I couldn't open the door to the outside, so I had to watch my mom drive away. I didn't know that she was coming back like in 4 hours. It gave me a slight abandonment complex. My former husband who was my boyfriend at the time brought it to my attention cause when we we're talking I'd follow him around. The final straw was that I followed him into the bathroom when he needed to 💩. He said, "I'll be right back! I'm not going anywhere else! You don't need to follow me in here !" We still laugh about it. I had no idea that I was doing that due to trauma.

    The thing about strain is it's measured in your heart rate. James, per my understanding, likely has better endurance from all his years being a PT. So his heart rate probably doesn't climb as high up as Fuhad's or Rem's because his heart isn't working as hard. I had the same issue at my gym where I felt like I was pushing myself so hard and just not seeing it on my heart rate monitor. My resting heart rate is usually between 48-50 and max heart rate during hardcore cardio doesn't go over 181 bpm and I recover really quickly.
