  • At age 10, Shaham debuted as soloist with the Jerusalem Symphony, conducted by the violinist Alexander Schneider. Less than a year later Shaham performed with Israel's foremost orchestra, the Israel Philharmonic, which was conducted by Zubin Mehta. At age 11, in 1982, Shaham won first prize in the Claremont Competition and was admitted to the Juilliard School in New York, where he studied with Dorothy DeLay and Hyo Kang. In addition, both he and his younger sister, the pianist Orli Shaham, attended Columbia University.
Shaham's career took off in 1989 when he was called to replace an ailing Itzhak Perlman for a series of concerts with Michael Tilson Thomas and the London Symphony Orchestra. Flying to London at short notice, having had to take time out from his studies at the Horace Mann School where he was a senior,[2] he played both the Bruch and the Sibelius concertos to glowing reviews.[3]
In 1990 he received the Avery Fisher Career Grant. In 1992 he was awarded the Premio Internazionale of the Accademia Chigiana in Siena.
Shaham has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, among them the New York Philharmonic, Berlin Philharmonic, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Vienna Philharmonic, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Russian National Orchestra, Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and Philadelphia Orchestra.
Fischer, Nathan Milstein, jascha heifetz, Maxim vengerov, ruggiero ricci, hilary hahn, itzhak perlman, Pinchas Zukerman, Frank Peter Zimmermann, Leonidas Kavakos,Alexander Markov, violino

I bet the Shaham-Anthony home sounds quite lovely when they get to talking, and carrying on nice long conversations, in their native tongue of Violin...

Just for your reference in case it's not already provided in other comments, here's the biography of Adele Anthony from Wikipedia:
"Adele Anthony was born in Singapore as the daughter of Alphonse Jivaras Anthony, the founding concertmaster of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.[2] She began to play the violin at the age of two and a half when the family settled in Tasmania. She subsequently attended Dernancourt Primary School, South Australia, and studied violin in Adelaide with Lyndall Hendrickson and Beryl Kimber. In her high school years, she attended Pembroke School, Kensington and Saint Ignatius'College Athelstone.
At age 13, in 1984, Anthony was the youngest winner of the ABC Instrumental and Vocal Competition,[3] (now known as the ABC Symphony Australia Young Performers Awards), performing the Violin Concerto by Jean Sibelius with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. She was later the winner of the 1996 Carl Nielsen International Violin Competition.
She subsequently studied with Dorothy DeLay at the Juilliard School in New York for eight years.[4]
Her recordings include Philip Glass's Violin Concerto No. 1 (1999/2000 on Naxos Records), Arvo Pärt's Tabula Rasa with Gil Shaham, Neeme Järvi and the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra (on Deutsche Grammophon) and Ross Edwards' Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, Maninyas / Sibelius's Violin Concerto in D minor with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra conducted by Arvo Volmer (Canary Classics CC09).
She is married to violinist Gil Shaham. They have three children.[1]"

Grandesmusicos, thank you for providing this wonderful and joyful rendition of Navarra to the public!
However, it is biased and wrong to include an extensive biography of Gil Shaham, playing 2nd violin here and not even mention the accomplished 1st violinist Adele Anthony. Yes she’s Gil’s wife but does that mean she’s not worthy of a mention?
I really hope you correct this omission!

You are correct and I do not know what is wrong with people's pro male bias, not using their ears, brains and staying present to listen and read, learn and recognize her here specifically.

You can just feel the joy.
All other versions I have heard are just too mechanical.

    • @RealWestCider
      @RealWestCider 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Sean Brown that’s because in the other versions, the violinists have no chemistry with each other, not to mention they each have ego the size of Mount Everest lol. So they have little interest in playing “with” each other. Rather they are too busy trying to outshine each other

Nobody bothered to mention Adele Anthony who is his wife. She is of Indian/Chinese parentage. Father is a violinist taught by my teacher. He married a Hong Kong nurse. Adele won prizes as well(Nielsen). What a discrimination. Female and coloured.

Lol, it does. Mexican music student here.
That section is a 3/4 rythm and that style of orchestration is used by many Mexican orchestras (Including National and Mineria) when orchestrating mariachi songs.
Also, Huapango de Moncayo has a very similar orchestration, so that also.
