There's about 8 of these parked at NAS Wildwood in Cape May, New Jersey, near my home.

The reason for the relatively small production run was simply the availability of the P&W R2000-7M2 radial engines. All engines fitted to Caribous at manufacture were reconditioned, second-hand, having previously been fitted to a variety of aircraft but most notably the Douglas C54 Skymaster.

Loved the Caribou’s awesome aircraft. I would spend hours watching them fly out of RAAF Richmond as a boy.

In what way is this a "Sydney Airshow"?

Hi. Appreciate the awesome quality footage of our display. I hope you enjoyed the day. I've got some video of the display from inside I should upload to TH-cam.

Ah the old “ gravel truck “ . Another type which is proving to be impossible to replace . The C27 is said to be its successor , but I’d like to see a short landing completion between the two 😄

That frame must develop a lot of lift because they're not moving very fast when they takeoff!!

Paul Stewart EXTRA . I think the fact that the engine exhausts are vectored over the top section of the wing adds to the lift characteristics , a bit like the Dash7 .

Full span triple slotted flaps. The inboard root trail flap was almost verticle. If memory serves me correctly it had 12 flaps and 4 ailerons plus a high lift airfoil. The aug, augumentor, tube (nasty things to wash) were primarily used for engine cooling like the beaver and otter. DHC apparently did not like cowl flaps. In Fam school, they told the ac was designed to be flown by one pilot as a large bush plane. I spent a year as crew chief on 62-4195 at Vung Tau, Rvn . Loved that plane. In my opinion it along with the Kc135 are two of the greatest planes of all time. Unglamorous workhorses who did their job day in and day out.
