- At what point of time do we realize that India's agriculture problems are actually everyone's problems? Even the most oblivious are not unfamiliar with the basics of this plot in India: an impoverished farmer, a weak harvest, mounting debts and the burden of many hungry stomachs. The ubiquity of this trope on screen and in real life should have ensured a uniform and universal application of a solution a long time ago, yet most Indian farmers still live within this cyclic narrative. Disillusioned yet determined, agriculturalist Prem Singh set out to crack the farming code, and talks about how, in doing so, he managed to turn his struggling farm into a lush green source of income, chasing transformation while preserving the ecological balance of the soil. His work sets an example for the nation and beyond.
As a progressive organic farmer from Bundelkhand, Prem Singh transformed his land in a drought stricken region into a lush farmland. Now, his farm has water bodies, follows crop rotation and organic farming, and is equipped with food processing units and is also used for animal husbandry. The farm also boasts of a few distinctive things in the region such as a rural museum, the Human Agrarian Centre and a Farmer Training Center. Prem believes that if his formula of sustainable farming is implemented across the country, it can ensure restoration of ecological balance and prosperity of farmers’ families. Born in 1964 in a farming family, Prem studied philosophy in Allahabad University but soon turned to his ancestral vocation. He has also co-authored a book, “What Farmers Really Need”, with Belgium environmentalist Johan D’hulster in which he explains how his farm follows the concept of ‘Aavartansheel Kheti’ which, loosely translated, means ‘periodic proportionate farming’.

Why don't we teach farming in schools? Excellent talk someone talking about Darwinism and GMO in hindi. I ve a point to make, everything we eat today is GMO. eg wild banana and the banana we eat today. I agree to agree with his point on pesticides and fertilizers.
Not all of us eat GMO dude. That is why we can tell the difference. The only pdts my family bought are oil, clothes and technology.
kavitha gurappaji his point is, humans have always modified plants. The banana you eat today is not how nature designed it. This is true for almost all foods. Farmers eons ago figured out how to extract the best from plants and enhance those features. Watermelon of today is not how it looked generations ago. Not so fleshy and red. But that doesn’t meant we GMO everything to a point where 5 companies control seeds for the rest of the world. That can’t be sustained and puts too much power in the hands of too few.
Earlier changes were gradual but today changes are abrupt and quick. Hence functioning of environment is breaking.
Profit motive of corporates is not the concern, its the quick changes being brought into our environment for quick benefit which is the real problem.
I m an agriculture student and trust me our fertilizer syllabus is bigger bigger then manure syllabus....there are many books based on fertilizer and its uses but not on manures

I wish more people find your speech prem sir... The world needs to listen ... All the elite leaders may have huge wealth and followers.. but they are nothing if farmers abolish... Why farmers especially in India are treated so low... I am a student of msc agriculture.. still this question lingers the most... Unless all the farmers unite together and form a huge mass ... In coming world they will be the leaders...

प्रेम सिंह जी टिकाऊ खेती के लिए आपके सुझाव काबिले तारीफ है। कृषि और पशुपालन की जोड़ी ही टिकाऊ खेती के लिए बहुत आवश्यक है। अंधाधुंध फर्टिलाइजर में या तो हम डी ऐ पी डालते हैं जिसमें नत्रजन और स्फुर फोसफोरस होता है 16:48 या 18:46 लेकिन जब हम यूरिया डालते हैं तो सिर्फ नत्रजन 46 प्रतिशत । बेचने वाले को तो ज़्यादा से ज़्यादा बेचने पर ज्यादा से ज्यादा मुनाफा कमाना है। किसान अपने पुरखों की खेती को भूल गया है । गोबर और मनुष्य के मल मूत्र में वही नत्रजन हैं जो यूरिया में होता है और केंचुआ जो पहले खेतों में रहता था क्योंकि उसका भोजन ही गाय बैल और भैंसों का गोबर था । सबसे बड़ी बात कि सभी मैक्रोन्युट्रीन्ट माईक्रोन्युट्रीन्ट फसलों के फलों और सब्जियों में आते हैं। जब डी ऐ पी किसान उपयोग करता है तो उसे अगर फसलों को ज्यादा नत्रजन देना है तो बहुत ज्यादा मात्रा लगेगी। हम जो भी खाना खाते हैं उसी को पौट्टी में निकालते हैं इन्सान के पीशाब में यूरीया ईन्डोल ऐसीटीक ईन्डोल ब्युटारिक साईटोकाईनीन अच्छी मात्रा में मौजूद हैं जो खेती किसानी के लिए मुफ्त ईश्वर ने दिया हैं। हर मनुष्य के भीतर यूरिया उत्पादन की ओरनिथिन साइकल फैक्ट्री हैं। मैंने कृषि महाविद्यालय में पढ़ा तो था कि फास्फोरस और पोटाश खेत की तैयारी के समय नत्रजन के साथ डालते हैं पर नत्रजन का उपयोग हम टोप ड्रेसिंग में बाद में भी समय समय पर करते हैं। प्रोटीन जो कि सोयाबीन और दालों में प्रचुर होता हैं जबकि धान और गेहूं, बाजरा, ज्वार,रागी, कोदो, मड़वा,कौन्नी, में कम (आयरन अच्छा होता है) हां मक्का में ट्रीपटोफेन, लाईसिन एमीनो अम्ल होते हैं। कृषि वैज्ञानिकों ने क्वालिटी मेज प्रोटीन में ट्रीपटोफैन बढ़ाने के लिए ओपेक 2 जीन में म्युटेशन कराया। कारण था मानव में ट्रीपटोफेन सेरोटोनिन और मेलोटोनिन हार्मोन उत्सज्रन के लिए जरूरी है । हम देखते हैं कि ओयलसीड क्रोप में सल्फर और नत्रजन मिलकर सीस्टीन और मीथींओनीन एमीनो अम्ल तेल के उत्पादन को बढ़ाने में सहायक है ऐसा ही प्याज और लहसुन की खेती में भी सहायक हैं। हमारे पूर्वज भले ही न जानते हों पर जो मक्का , प्याज, दालें, अनाज हम खाते वहीं परिष्कृत होकर हमारी पोट्टी में निकल आता और खेतों में दुबारा पहुंच जाता। गाय जंगल में जड़ी बूटियां चरेगी तो वहीं तो परिष्कृत होकर गाय के दुध में हमें मिलेगा गोबर में मिलेगा। गाय का गोसा जलाने से मच्छर क्यों भाग जाते हैं। कृषि महाविद्यालय की खेती केवल ज़्यादातर NPK की चर्चा करती हैं मगर मेगनीशयम को भूल जाती हैं जो क्लोरोफिल का मुख्य घटक है। वह कहां से आया ये किसी ने जानने की कोशिश नहीं की ना ही मेग्नीशीयम सल्फेट पौधे में डालने को बोला । वह जब किसान ने खेतों में डाला नहीं तो कहां से आया। भाई क्या पौधे बिना प्रकाश संश्लेषण के उत्पादन कर सकते हैं नहीं संभव है । केंचुआ किसानों के खेतों से कहां गायब हो गया। क्लोरोफिल ए में मिथाइल और क्लोरोफिल भी मे ऐलडीहाईड है ये पता लगा लिया पर मेग्नीशीयम कहां से आया किसी को नहीं पता । जीन क्लोरोपलास्ट बना रहा है ग्रेना में लाईट रियक्शन हो रही हैं। डालो जम कर पेस्टिसाइड और सारे मोथ, तितलियों और मधुमक्खीयों को मार डालो फिर अपने हाथों से परागण करते रहना। कमर टूट जायेंगी परागण करते करते। भाई जब ट्रेक्टर से गहरी जुताई कर रहे हो तो बैलों की तो जरूरत नहीं है डालो फर्टीलाइजर । गहरी जुताई किसलिए करी ताकि पोषक तत्व जो गहराई में छुपा है वो पौधों को मिल जाए तो फिर फर्टीलाइजर क्यों डालकर लागत बढ़ा रहे हो। तुम तो कहते थे कि केवल जायद में मूंग, उड़द, लोबिया की तीन महीने की फसल खेतों की साल भर की उवर्रकों की जरूरत को पूरा कर देगी। पराली जलाओ और बाहर से उवर्रकों को डालो । ढैचा का उपयोग कोई नहीं जानता।
लागत चौगुनी हो और उत्पादन दुगना चलेगा। टिकाऊ खेती कैसे करें।

Very good and refreshing perspective towards sustainable farming. Due to the ever-increasing population, it has become impossible to have sustainable farming. Genetically modified seeds have become necessary to feed the enormous human population and farm animals. To have sustainable farming we must first curtail the population growth.
