    A killer tire. It's finally come to this. How can someone make a movie about a killer tire? Nostalgia Critic looks at how and, more importantly, why? Let's take a look at Rubber.

    Rubber is a 2010 English-language French independent horror film about a tire that comes to life and kills people with its psychic powers. It was directed and written by Quentin Dupieux.

    "The audience left, you can go home!" Yeah that's the "point" of the movie. I was laughing throughout the whole movie because I was actively watching a movie about a friggin tire. And I think thats the point - the movie is mocking you for watching it.

    • @lizzychrome7630
      @lizzychrome7630 5 ปีที่แล้ว +109

      Pretty sure it's also a satire on "deep" "artsy" films made by people who don't even understand the subject they think they're commenting on. ("Why is the president shot by a random man, in a movie about JFK? No reason! This film is a homage to No Reason....")

      @ItsHyomoto 5 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      Supposedly, if you dig into the subtext it's an exploration of many common film tropes through the lens of a ridiculous movie about a tire. It's far more than I could fit in a single comment, but the movie seems to have been written to subvert and capitalize on horror tropes. Or Lizzy said, it's a satire of sorts. Such as, "over the course of the film all the characters who thought they were watching/making a fiction end up leaning on the fourth wall and finding out it's not there - this is what gets the spectator killed in the end." (tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Film/Rubber)

I swear I'm gonna try and find this show again 20 years from now only to find recordings of static and white noise. It's like Itchy and Scratchy fell into the uncanny valley with CG animation worse than Jimmy Neutron.

She and this is coming from a person who knows her personally, is very exaggeratory. She likes to make things a lot worse than they actually are and she likes to play victim

      @@Overlord69 Actually most of that was not Doug's fault it was mostly Mike Michaud and Doug's brother Rob. The worst thing that they said about Doug was that he was just kind of an idiot but he is a good person. I met Doug at a convention he was really nice and he really cares about his fans. Rob honestly was not that bad at the time either but Doug was the more friendly and outspoken of the two. Doug himself had very little to do with the channel awesome scandal and was barely mentioned in the document because they could not really say that many bad things about him. He just happens to be the face of Channel Awesome so people will blame him even if he is not responsible. He was one of the few guys that they could not really blame because he was not aware of what was going on.

    The problem I've always had with self-referential movies is there's really no joke you can make about them. It's like trying to make fun of a clown; anything you'd make fun of is done on purpose.
    Ironically what I found most disappointing about this movie is it isn't dumb enough. They obviously cared enough about bringing this idea to screen, but then just had everyone act as if they didn't care. I can get some entertainment value from dumb ideas, but not when they people making the movie know the idea is dumb and insist on making that clear to you. Well then, why did you bother? "Why did you come see this then?" Er... touche I guess.

      Stop whatever you’re doing right now and go watch it. It’s a(n almost) great film if you look at it as the dry comedy it is. Best I can describe the film is it has the retarded premise of Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, the dry humor Napoleon Dynamite, the absurd, irreverent, film-dismantlement approach of Monty Python, and the trolling of Freddy Got Fingered, all deep fried and left out in the sun too long that only an autistic chaotic-neutral fuckwit like myself would enjoy. The film is a recipe for disaster that more or less accomplishes its goal of being exactly what it claims to be, “a homage to no reason.” I’d probably give it a 6or7,closer-to-6/10.
      Note: 5/10 is average for me, I usually reserve 8+/10 for films I predict will be analyzed and featured on TCM or similar classic movie channels in 50+ years.

      agreed, it is trying way too hard to be artsy and by doing that falling out of that category as a result... but... in doing that it does get it's message accros in a way? sort of?
      because its all bullshit for the sake of being bullshit, and in the end pointing the finger to hollywood? just a thought.
      or it's just meant to be a very surrealistic comedy breaking 4th walls in an effort to seem edgy and daring on the pretense that all 4th wall breaking comedy is considered "next level" ?
      either way, its a freakin telepathic tire.....as a movie plot...

    You should really see the Quentin Dupieux's filmography. He's pretty unconventional and his films are pretty good if you like to see awkward moments that are also cool. For example : "Steak", "Reality", "Wrong cops", ... . Also, he's a famous DJ called Mr.Oizo who represented "La French Touch"
