Wow, I have been binge watching Obsidian videos over the past few days, yet I have been a casual user for 6 months. After watching everything Nick Milo has made, and then I guess I will soak up all your videos, I am finally getting a glimmer of how I will deply Obsidian. No, I am not a student, but I am going to use the MOC system. Thank you, I subscribed and hit the notification.
This was so helpful. I’ve just finished my MA in literature and I’m looking to pursue a PhD. I’ve never been an organized or systems-oriented person, which I consider a weakness-especially as the difficulty of my work and the knowledge demand has increased. Even though I’m still trying to improve at knowledge management and identifying what processes work best for me, it is so lovely to see examples from fields that are easier to relate to my own work. Nothing against STEM, but there seems to be a notice void in the efficiency/productivity space with a focus on higher level humanities.
I have just discovered obisidian and I cannot tell you that how much this is amazinnfgggggg omg. I feel so powerful. Like you can write and take all your notes but you can also write like you are writing article and cite in obsidian so when it comes to merging findings writings you can just copy and paste from your old notes. It is really amazing. I am kind of making ready my articles beforehand
I did a lot of analysis and decided on Notion. With Notion, I use databases and the idea of having different tables is much more flexible and powerful.
FTR, some of the original work on "productivity" was by the Boston Consulting Group (I think) and they focused their research on ... academics, precisely because they have to be productive.
Coming to the end of the first module of my BA but only started to [seriously] use Obsidian during the past few weeks, with my current assignment. Certainly gonna use it as a primary tool, for my degree, from here on out! :-)
This is a very helpful video, Courtney is brilliant and I loved the mind map she used to organize her thoughts and ideas around her thesis, but was I the only watching the cat in the background and waiting to see if it will move?
thanks for sharing your obsidian management, as a master student, i found it very inspiring. Roam Research is good, but obsidian look better. And also, i prefer the local storage solution.
It would have been nice if she would have shown how she does individual notes, because you only can see how she relates the bibliography, but not the ideas or the bits of information.
I'm also a PhD in National agricultural area. But I don't think obsidian shouldn be this kindof form to use. I don't advice to use graph view but creat tag tree for logic route.
My take on Microsoft Word is that, if it’s not going to be printed or if it doesn’t need to be sent to someone else, then Word is the wrong tool for the job.
I would love to use Obsidian. However their licensing model is too restricting to business users. I take extensive notes for commercial use and don't want to spent 50$ on the product when I could use VS Code with plugins instead. Looks like a great product hopefully they change their licensing to be more professional-user friendly.
As a doctoral student I can't tell you how much your content has helped me and nothing comes close to Obsidian when it comes to research!

I've only discovered Obsidian 2 years into my work as a graduate student. This is invaluable as I start my dissertation process.

Why are we not talking about the fact that Courtney's cat is wearing a bow tie?

(It’s @Calhistorian) Glad to see the growth of your system. Amazing! (Interesting discipline focus as well).
Cheers!
Can we get a link to your discussion of this system? Is it published anywhere on the web or a video tutorial?
This is great~ would love to see more academic/researchers using Obsidian and would love to see more content like this.
very good work, i am currently using obsdian too but i am applying it to finance and accounting. interesting to see.
dude that jump at 2:57 tripped me out hahaha. great interview very interesting!
4:00 Cat owners and Obsidian I think there may be a correlation. I have 3 myself 🤣️🐈️🐈️🐈️
I SEE A CAT 😻
FTR, some of the original work on "productivity" was by the Boston Consulting Group (I think) and they focused their research on ... academics, precisely because they have to be productive.
besides the amazing organization of their research, im also very interested on her paper as well it sounds interesting!

Magic trick at 2:57
Using #tags helps me organize code snippets by context. For example if it's a hook or function or WordPress... I'll add those tags.
Great video.Thanks. I think I am going to have to watch this one multiple times to get it. And I love the cat in the background!
Courtney, how do you transfer or integrate your 'knowledge' here to your thesis?
That cat warms my heart
Thank you so much!!! Definitely going to try the app
The kitty is adorable! -- Good video thank you !

No 😭
Asking the right questions as always, god bless.
Question: how do you use the graph view?
Answer: 11:56
Going to start using Obsidian like this.
thanks for sharing your obsidian management, as a master student, i found it very inspiring. Roam Research is good, but obsidian look better. And also, i prefer the local storage solution.
this made me choose obsidian over roam as a PhD student
The cat @3:30
3:40 the cat saw some flying creature

Excellent interview and approach.
Why not use local graph for decluttering the view?
Other than that, very cool video
How transferable are these habits and considerations for STEM instead of human and social sciences?
I think her method of linking references to ideas is super useful for literature reviews and meta-analysis.
I bet this would be amazing for STM 🔥 will be doing it throughout my student Life!
Wish I knew about all this when I was in college. Even if I did, NO ONE had laptops in class. You weren't allowed one.
I'm also a PhD in National agricultural area. But I don't think obsidian shouldn be this kindof form to use. I don't advice to use graph view but creat tag tree for logic route.
Awesome cat!
My take on Microsoft Word is that, if it’s not going to be printed or if it doesn’t need to be sent to someone else, then Word is the wrong tool for the job.
Great video... even if the cat stole the show. :)
la organizacion debe ser lo mas importante, para ubicarse con rapidez
I like the "cult" reference considering her studies. She knows from whence the speaks!
Your cat be looking fancy in the background
I like her voice a lot .

Obsidian is free. You don't even need a licence to use it. Your are welcome. :)
Shouldn't note be small? That shown in the videos a just huge.
The graph has the "strongest shape"... Like
Obsidian is cool.....
The cat is thinking, what the hell is this lady talking about.
