I was in high school and saved every dime I made for a stereo. I got a sweet deal on a CD player ($650) but the selection of CDs was pretty sparse. This was one of the CDs I bought right away after the salesman used it to demo the speakers I bought. I quickly moved past the hits that were on this album and learned to really appreciate the more subtle songs. The way Knopfler sat in the groove and didn't feel the necessity to throw the guitar way out in front of the song was so cool. I love the musicianship. When he plays it isn't like the guitar is playing on its own while the band simply supports it. It's like part of a well oiled machine. Can definitely see the JJ Cale influence.

I smuggled in my Ricoh 35mm SLR camera and was just to Mark's left at the edge of the stage.
While enjoying the show I was snapping away and at one point Mark looked right at me, pointed his finger, winked and smiled as if to say "naughty boy but you're okay"
I actually have a photo of the very moment he pointed at me.
I saw a hell of a lot good artists at the Sydeny Enteratinment Center....here's a few from the list
    Neil Young
    Tina Turner
    Sting
Bob Dylan with Tom Petty and Stevie Nicks

Phil Collins (solo plus as Genesis)
