I think this depends solely on the person and what they’re getting. I tend to get larger pieces, so I’m sitting for anywhere from like 3-5 hrs per session. Why on earth would someone want to just sit and watch some one else get tattooed for that long?!
That being said, I’ve always just felt more comfortable going alone.

To be fair, it was a guy vs woman. She was way more on the "for safety" side while I feel like the dude was thinking more along the lines of what would make _him_ comfortable, as a dude and/or as a tattoo artist, not so much thinking of the safety side. Besides, she said so with a more specific example of if you'd otherwise be alone with the tattoo artist, then bring a friend, while I imagine he was thinking in a shop with other people around/in view.

First tattoos are generally done when apprenticing; something small, simple, often may not have color. It's usually either very cheap or done for free, because an expectation is being set that this is a fresh artist and you get what you pay for. A lot of artists on this channel would probably lie about their first experience, because some ppl buy a tattoo machine online and tattoo their friends at their house ot whatever before going legitimate, and they probably wouldn't want something like that ruining their reputation, as tattooing from home is a major taboo.

    • @leandroazevedo28
      @leandroazevedo28 2 ปีที่แล้ว +46

Worst part to me is the aftercare. The needles aren't so bad, I rather stay hours getting tattoed than stay 3 (or more) days with my skin scabbing, peeling and itching like hell. When people make they first tattoo they get very concerned about feeling too much pain and no one tells them how boring the aftercare is (for a good cause though).

Luckily, my artist and cousin was there to catch me when I fell but I never felt so light headed ever in my life. Tunnel vision to the max and was literally sweating bullets. Eat before you go in if ur a tattoo virgin like me. I passed out after he inked in the outline. I came back the next day after eating, and the most that happened to me was sweaty palms. It took me many, many years to decide whether or not to get a tattoo, and back before I got my first one, I knew absolutely nothing about tattoos or how artists do them. I did my research and with the help of an old friend, I found my artist and he did a GREAT, GREAT job with mine. The people at that tattoo shop were very kind, didn't judge me, and my artist was willing to work with me on my intended design and made one that we both agreed on. The sessions were very relaxing and it didn't hurt as much as I thought, considering how I have a very high tolerance to pain, and definitely not afraid of needles for sure! Oh, and if you're wondering what my first tattoo was... it was a large tattoo of Snotlout (from How to Train Your Dragon) on my chest. And I STILL LOVE IT! My second tattoo will come very soon.

I was worried about my latest tatt when after waiting two months my artist hadn't drawn anything. I sent her a drawing my friend did for me, told her to add whatever she thought would be cool because I liked her style. Two months later I walked in and the first thing out of her mouth was "what are we doing today?" Freaked me out. It ended up being great, I love it. She didn't go overboard with making it her own, so my friends art really shines through. Her methods weren't what I was expecting, but she knew what she was doing so it worked out.

I have my chest tatted to as well as my full arm. If your getting basic designs it won’t hurt dat bad but remeber this. The more detail/realism the more painful. Such as dark dark color packs…. but once you get one your gonna be hooked and get slot of more. Trust bro its 100% worth it!! Shading isn’t bad but line work hurts more. Once you get thru dat it’s not even a sweat unless like I said your getting realism and a lot of dark color pallets.good luck. n make sure u follow these rules to bro. btw tattoo artist also like to do shit n drag out to take breaks. I’d u take breaks when u come back it will hurt even more. So it is best to just sit theu the session with no breaks. U less u really need one. I’ve only gotten one tattoo so far but I’m honestly so happy this advice lined up with my first tat experience and how I went about it. I followed the artist for a while, saw she had Halloween flash I loved, and sat on it for a bit. When I went for it, she let me bring in one friend and it was a night appointment, and since she was an apprentice she was the last one in the studio to close up for the night. It was the artist, me, and my friend watching tv together while I got tattooed and it was such a safe feeling. The artist seemed very professional and laid back online and was the same in person. I’m so glad I did research before my first tattoo, especially being in the Bay Area since there’s so many tattoo artists that could be hit or miss around here. I just got mine earlier today on a whim. I had been talking about it with my mom as we were/are going to get matching ones. She just wanted to see how I would do since I have always freaked out about needles since I was a little girl until about a few years ago. It didn’t hurt like I thought it would. My artist and my mom were talking while he was setting up before my tattoo and during my tattoo. It calmed me down physically because mentally I was chill. She said that I didn’t make any faces like I was in pain. Over all it was a good experience. I would definitely go back to him. She told him about when I was younger and had to get a shot because I had strep and the nurses would not let her hold me when I saw the needle. The nurse said “ Oh she’s a little bitty ole thing. We got her.” Yeah. She didn’t have me. I ended up kicking her diamond earring out of her ear and across the room.😂

I was tattooed by someone who is recently being shown on these videos and I actually reacted negatively seeing their face months later b/c of the anxiety I had the entire session. They were mad from start to finish and when I tried to show them that what upset them was a misunderstanding they popped headphone in and ignored me the rest of the session. Not to mention I was in a weird position and tried to tell them multiple times my arm was falling asleep but they would get frustrated and stop tattooing me b/c they couldn't hear me when I would said " hey my hand / arm is falling asleep" . Tbh when the outline was done I considered leaving but I spent so much money on the tattoo and I felt really conflicted that I stayed. There are some mistakes in the tattoo and for a while I felt like I couldn't even enjoy it b/c the experience was so bad. I really think in person or video call consults would be a lot better. They only talked to me through email and the first time I met them was in person that day. I understand their life can be busy and hectic especially if they are popular but I'm not a piece of paper....I'm a person with feelings and I was really hurt by the whole thing. This doesn't stop me from wanting more tattoos BUT next time I will want to talk to the artist more and get to know them before deciding if I want to spend hours with them tattooing my body.

The one thing that I would point out to people thinking about that first tattoo is yes research the artist and check out their work but also visit the studio and get a feel for them because they may be a fantastic artist but I truly believe there needs to be a connection between artist and client .
My artist had no traditional Japanese artwork on her instagram but was super stoked to work on my ideas and I’ve ended up with a beautiful tattoo , I’ve also found the most fun and friendly studio with amazing artists and for me personally an artist who is actually excited to work with me on my current & future tattoos .

For my first tattoo, I got a smiley face my grandpa used to draw on cards when his hands shook too bad from Parkinsons to write his name, I got it on my inner forearm/wrist, I wanted it smiling at me, which would technically be upside down, and my artist thought that would very weird and wrong, so he convinced me to do it the right way. But I wish I would have just been brave and said, fuck it, I want it my way, now every time I raise my wrist to look at it, it's smiling at me upside down, and it makes me a little sad.

Where was this video when I went to get my 2nd tattoo 😭. My first went great and looks great. My second I went to a different artist because he was my friend's tattoo artist and he did great work on him. Told him exactly what I wanted but he changed the whole design and told me the one he had would fit better on my calf rather than having a big one wrapping around my calf. It's Still a beautiful tattoo but I really don't like it, it's too small and busy (it's a realistic phoenix, and I wanted a cartoonie one) and I'll be getting a coverup in the next few months. 😭 The sad part is it's a really meaningful tattoo to me.

    *************MUST READ*************
Getting my first tattoo was a nightmare .. I did it on a whim however I had wanted the tattoo for about 4 years and I never had the guts to get one so one night my girlfriends and I were having a girls weekend in niaraga falls we were going to do something but there ended up being only 2 seats available so I let them go and I was like ill meet back up with you when youre done so I went into this tattoo shop it was clean and the people were friendly so I went for it I was getting two tattoos one on each wrist ... the guy did everything correctly and he went to start needle is actually on my skin and dude is about to start the lining and other guy from the shop yells "STOP WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?!" naturally I jumped and got cut with the needle and im freaking out thinking this tattoo artist isn't actually an artist or he used something dirty even though I seen him open a clean needle ... the other "artist" comes up and starts laughing saying he was just joking around ... ... ...
I'M SORRY WHAT?!? apparently he does it to almost every Virgin tattoo canvas... however I now was bleeding really badly and cut open so it looked like I sliced my wrists for our entire girls weekend 😔😔😔
Let's just say I got that "artist" fired and thankfully it wasn't my first and last tattoo I built up the courage to get more believing not everyone is a complete dickwad

I got my first tattoo yesterday on the upper part of my butt. I was scared of the pain and so I did my research on what to do. I was shaking like a leaf when I sat on the chair but, the artist waited until I calmed down.
He told me if it hurts, I should tell him to stop. When the needle touched my skin, I was surprised because it didn’t hurt at all. It felt like someone was using the tip of scissors and gently pressing it against my skin. Right now, it's kind of itchy, and Idk if that's normal.

Do what I pay you to do. I want you to put an art on me. If you think you can do it better or in a better place, we can talk about it. I'm open to suggestions. But some things I want done a certain way for a certain reason. Per example: One of my tats is on my thumb behind the knuckle to the wrist. Dude warned me it might fade or not look right. I said that was fine. He did a very good job but it still faded weird. BUT it was a tattoo commemorating an old thing so the fade ended up making it look better.
You're working with an expert and they're working with a living canvas. It's all about give and take. They want to do the best job (well, the good ones do,) because if they do, word of mouth gets them more clients (plus personal pride.) You obviously want them to do a good job because it's your fucking body. Just... on either side, don't be an obdurate asshole.
