    I was in the same situation last year. I found a baby crow on the street next to a car and I brought him home. He was a little bit older than Peach when I found him, so I didn't have any problem when I released him. Now I miss him, but I still see him sometimes flying around my street and the garden. He even has some friends!
    It was nice to find your video and see that I'm not the only one who rescues crows. Peach is even the same age as my Snowy!

    • @chv72

      Thanks for watching and telling us the story of your Snowy! Yes, since Peach was so young, he became imprinted on us and didn't get along with other crows at the rehab, so we had to bring him back home. Kullike has rescued and successfully released hooded crows in Europe years ago but she says they weren't this young.

    I'm really proud of you two. When I was a kid some 40 + years ago, there was a crow that used to come visit my back yard. He / she came daily in the late afternoon when I'd come home from school. I used to feed it corn nibblets and canned cat food. We'd play tug of war with an elastic band. It came back daily for a long time, then the visits would become less frequent over several months... then one day was its last visit. This was late in October. After that I never saw the crow again. I think of that bird often and wonder what ever happened to it. I know they can live for 20 years or so, but I have to wonder if it got to live out its full life. I'd hope so, and I hope it got to befriend an other kid like me. Thanks for your story, and the videos you've posted. I hope Peach comes back to visit you.

    • @chv72
      @chv72  8 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      This was a very nice story about the crow that came to visit you! We took Peach to rehab centre and he spent there over two weeks. However, we had to bring him back home since he did not get along with other crows there. It turned out he had become imprinted on us, so he did not identify himself with other crows any more. Peach is our family member now :-)

      +Denis F -- Crows are the smartest birds in the world. Your Crow probably realised that its life in the wild would not be nearly as comfortable as having a family of humans look after him.
      So he refused to ``Rehabilitate`` and made you take him back home instead :)

    It was very kind of you to care for this beautiful animal. One thing I noticed, and know from my own experience in caring for abandoned birds, is that keeping a bird in a cage that is too small shreds their tail feathers. With shredded tail feathers, a bird will never learn to fly well enough to survive in the wild. After you took him to his new temporary home, I also noticed that those feathers were healing very nicely. You made the right decision, and thank you for sharing this story. The world needs more people like you.

      Yes, Peach was doing his same old chicken dance to us when we went to visit him :-) At that time we were still thinking he will become a wild crow. We later found out that he did not really get along with other crows since he had become imprinted on us, so we had to bring him back. He seems very happy to be part of our family and we love him to pieces!

    We also rescued a baby crow, named him Homer. We had him in our home for 41/2 months. He had a cage in the house, but he spent all of his time with us out of the cage.. He was able to fly very well. when we went out to the patio he would come with us. One day he decided to fly out on his own. He came back with a friend, who watched out for him.

      We are now raising a crow that fell out of the nest was about month old now about 5 months old , can eat and fly on its own. The crow family comes and goes and we are going to try and reunite him. It's such a huge amount of work but I love it. I have my doubts if he is going to leave on its own but I think it's better for them. I will miss it.

    Beautiful bird peach))) i have 2 crows for the last 2 years that come every day for a bird bath they love to hang out in the back yard. Sometimes i will feed them boiled eggs and apples whats funny is sometimes they bring gifts and drop them in the bird bath sweet and sour sauce packets from maccas apple core, rocks haha. They seem to come mid day for a bath but will wake me in the mornings by jumping up and down on the guttering of the house.

      We had wet eyes when we left from that rehabilitation place and were driving back home but we wanted to give Peach a chance to be a free wild bird. We were also happy and excited for him as we hoped he would make friends with other crows there. However, after him spending over two weeks at the rehab it turned out that he did not fit in with other crows as he had become imprinted on us. So, we had to bring him back and he has been our sweet family member since. There are a lot of recent videos of Peach on our channel.

    To bad for the, in my opinon the bad ending of bringing him to a rehab....Back in the mid 60's we rased one..named him Jim...taught him to fly..he was part of the family...never clipped his wings...he would come when you called his name...fly to you from where ever he was and land on your arm and walk around with you on your shoulder ...At night he would fly into the third floor attic window where my room was and sleep on the perch I made for him...great watch dog too..would come swooping down on anyone who came into the yard that wasn't in my family...lost a few sets of keys and other items, that little devil..had him for many years..then one day he was hanging out with another crow up in the trees for a few weeks ..we figured he left to start a murder of his own..
    The legend of Jim Crow

    • @chv72
      @chv72  7 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      That turned out not to be the ending! Peach spent a little over two weeks in that rehab but we had to bring him back home as he did not get along with other crows. He had become imprinted on us and his survival chances in the wild would have been very poor. We wanted to give Peach a chance to be free and wild, but he wasn't wild any more and now he is our family member for good! Thanks for telling us the story of your crow! I adore members of the crow family. So intelligent. If l had one l couldn’t bear to part with him. Had a pet jackdaw when l was 10 that stayed for about 6 months. That was 60 years ago. Now l live in the countryside l persuaded my friend who has jackdaws in his outhouse, to feed them some corn when he feeds his horses. Now they all wait in a big tree and swoop down when he appears. Problem is that folks around here call all largish dark birds crows. They cannot distinguish black crows, hooded crows, ravens, rooks and jackdaws but they do know magpies.

    I have an adult crow that is wild as far as I can tell that has befriended my old dog and visits every winter. He will come in the house at night and give my cats hell. He shares the dog's food and roosts on a bookcase. I met him by sharing a hamburger with him 3 years ago when he just flew up and started squawking for a bite and he's been coming back ever since.
    My only complaints are that he isn't house trained or picky where he goes and he is adamant that breakfast be served an hour before I plan to get up.

    Peach didn't look too happy there. It almost seemed as if he was a bit upset when you went back. I'm relatively new to your channel and watching your videos randomly as they come into my recommendations... but I feel, just by watching this, that Peach did seem a little flustered.

    Mine stayed for about 7 months and left of it's own accord. I never kept him in a cage though so he could do as he pleased. First 3 months he slept indoors and then he moved to a plum tree in the garden. He was away for about 6-7 months before he came to visit me first time. He has been visiting me regularly in the past year and a half or so since he left. And no matter how long we don't see each other he lends on my shoulder as if he had never left and we play silly as usual. I'd love to know where he lives now and how far is that. I imagine it must be far away otherwise he would have been visiting more often. PS I'd like to think it's he. Please watch my vids.

      +zengi7 Hi! I am Dennis's wife Kullike. I have also been watching and very much enjoying the videos of your crow. Just wanted to say hello and that years ago I used to have the same kind of black and gray European crow. I am from Estonia originally and years ago I twice grew up a black and grey crow chick in Estonia. Both times the crow stayed around until they became independent and then took off with other crows and I never saw them again.This time our Peach here doesn't want to have anything to do with other crows. Must be because he was way too young when we found him. We lately put up a video Our Pet Crow showing Peach at very young age. You might like to watch that. Is your crow staying around now in winter too? In Estonia they stay for winter, but here in Canada they fly south for winter, so Peach is staying indoors now. On warmer days we bring him out to enjoy some sunshine.

      +zengi7 I am scared to let Peach free in our yard here in town as he has no fear for dogs. He (or she?) is so used to our dog and our friends' dogs that would go and annoy any dog in the neighbourhood. Also, some evil people here like shooting crows, so I feel like I have to protect Peach from all the evils of the world :-) I hope your Bago is safe wherever he is right now and will be visiting you soon :-)

    • @zengi7
      @zengi7 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      So he/she plays and annoys any dog he comes across? There is a method in Bago's madness. He would never approach anyone except for me and my dogs. He has made it so far, so I suppose he will be all right in the future. I which he would settle with his family some nearer to me so I can see him more often. Btw, Peach is an excellent name for a crow.

    • @chv72
      @chv72  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I've heard it's not allowed in the U.S. for some reason, but it's allowed here in Canada as crows are not on any endangered list.

    • @SpiritBear12
      @SpiritBear12 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Crows are not endangered here in the U.S.. They're all over the place. Many people consider them to be pests, but I don't, but then again, I don't have crops to defend either.
      Often times they're the first bird I hear in the morning.

    • @tackssherbo7104
      @tackssherbo7104 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      SpiritBear ... Crows were, in fact, once severely endangered and were put on the list of those species, along with the American bald eagle, making it illegal to hunt or own them. Many chicks were lost because of DDT and adults were killed by hunting as crop pests. Though they are now plentiful, they are STILL on the list. I am not sure whether it is illegal to have one that was rescued, though. People in most neighborhoods have learned not to put trash bags out at night for trash pickup in the morning. Crows (and raccoons) have no hesitation in tearing into those bags and making a mess looking for goodies to snack on. I know that personally after having to pick up everything from my lawn in the morning a few times. lol
