Thanks Tamara. I photography a lot of children and patience while building comfort and rapport, with the entire family, is key. Small details like fixing a necklace prior to shooting are important too. Nicely done.

Hi, Niranjan - Depends on what you're going for - in this case, I knew I wanted a clean black & white, so I was going for brightness & catch light, and the silver side of this reflector was perfect for a more subdued cloudy day.
God bless you Tamara for having the patience to put up with that wild little girl! Wow, to get a great picture while having to put up with such bad behavior from a child is truly professional! And the "mum" just sits there and says nothing - amazing!
I actually BEG the parents to let the kids run free - mum did exactly what I asked for and looked pretty lovely doing it, which is what I had asked for and she worked hard to deliver : ) It's not always easy for parents to let the kids run free, but I think it really contributes to better expressions. Thanks for your sweet words about the photo!
Appreciate your input. Not sure how often you photograph children, but sometimes with kids and pets (not that I'm saying they're the same thing ; ), fill flash can be more distracting than helpful. I would choose the reflector again & again in this specific situation because it contributed to interaction with subjects, as well as added the fill light I wanted.
Tamara Lackey I’ll take pets over kids anytime ;) Using a flash would let you take more pictures in the same time and also you could move further away using a telephoto lens getting a shallower depth of field
brain96969 i like both : ) i often prefer to shoot less images and make sure each shot is more deliberate - that being said, i can still shoot more photographs in the same timeframe with a reflector. in respect to choosing a more wide-angle lens (the 35m 1.4) over a telephoto lens, the decision here has everything to do with the subject i'm photographing. in the case of exuberant children, deliberately shooting with a shorter focal length is more advantageous as i can better direct my subjects via proximity - and, for shallower depth of field, i just separate my subjects prominently from the backdrop, keep them on the same focal plane and choose an aperture that keeps them all in focus while dropping out the background, which i show how to do in the video. best of luck with your photography!
Tamara Lackey Great point Tamara. People who say to use a longer lens and move back probably have never shot kids. If you want the gesture and pose that you achieved you have to have that face to face interaction.
Very nice. Beautiful photo. Great technique.....Thank you.
Whew!!! What patience you have. Great tips. Thanks for sharing.

This made me laugh. Good control skills. Love the way you were so natural with the group and were able to address all of them on different levels.
Thanks! : )

This is a nice informative video; but on an overcast day should we not use Gold reflector to give more warm feeling? Just curious to know.

This was pain to watch... And final image? Is it for real?
I don't get the shown votes. She did a good job I think.
Fill in flash would be better

Looks like you could use an extra arm there Tamara.
