My hayes mower is not the premium one. However it does a bloody good job. Runs smoother than a slasher ,more compact for turning and distributes the grasses more evenly rather in clumps and rows. I have the height set on the highest setting to avoid rocks but still hits the odd one. I like the hammers as they break up the small branches and mulch everything. A good investment.

agreed, my 5 foot cost $2600, cheaper than a slasher, better cut and improves soil

How is the mower holding up a year later? Looking at one but never seen one working until this video

Josh Coulson absolutely brilliant, works like the day I got it, just the usual wear on the knives (I’m a little rough with it and hit rocks) no mechanical issues and would recommend to anyone.

How do you find the grass entering the front of it does it get pushed over much and effect re cut ?, I've been looking at some more expensive ones with a taller opening but I like this ones price

No issues at all, when it’s sitting back on the roller there’s about 100mm clearance between the lowest point of the body and they ground, with the way that it rotates the causes a slight vacuum inside so unless the grass is soaked it generally draws the grass into the knives, the hammers create a heap more upward suction on grass but aren’t as smooth with the cut.

frank low hi frank, it’s a Case farmall 35b. 31hp at the PTO and 38hp total. It’s at the lower end of the scale for the mower but it handles it well
