The fact that you would even wear the shirt of the band who pretends to be talented but was only trying to sell a persona instead (and even admitted to it) because they knew they had no talent and couldn't compete with the big boys in the 70's and even some of the 80's and the fact that you said Jimi Hendrix was the number one over rated guitar player in one of your lists, makes me want to hurl brown green like chunks all over your head. And then you said something like to those of us who didn't like your last list and complain you said : "Fuck you" or something like that to all of us. So fuck you back because the only thing you prove to me is you know zero about what real music is supposed to sound like.😂🤣
Terry Kath was an absolute MONSTER on guitar as well as an awesome vocalist and he also wrote music and arranged the horns on some of the Chicago tunes. Massive talent and a massive loss to music when he died.
Thanks for giving Terry Kath some credit. I think he is incredibly underrated because he was not known for guitar solos. His solos are far and few between, but that is what makes them memorable and he wasn't required to solo often. Chicago's horn section had that area covered pretty thoroughly. Kath is one of the greatest rhythm players ever, I'll take that any day of the week over shredding.
Uli Jon Roth was the best guitarist the Scorps had. Mid 70s Scorps music was hard. That clip of Sails of Charon is pure metal heaven. One of the best in his day.

@brianforgie5515 You totally read my mind. Uli Roth is one of my all time favourites. Sails of Charon, Yellow Raven... so many great songs! He might actually be THE reason why I love the early Scorpions so much!

Yeah he inspired me to learn some country licks! Thanks for watching and commenting! Please subscribe if not already- we’d love to have you in the family!
-Phil keaggy is a beast, unbelievable chops, chords and overall musicality. He was playing Rhandy Rhoads style licks 10 years before he did. -Ollie Halsall was arguably the inspiration for Allan Holdsworth but nobody talks about him. -Chris Poland for me was hands down the best Megadeth lead player but Marty always got all the love. -Greg Howe is a great improviser with top notch technique. -Mick Ronson from early David Bowie's band.
Richard Thompson never seems to get a look-in even though he is a fantastic guitarist with his own distinctive style. His playing especially on the album Amnesia and others both before and after is outstanding. Going to see him this September on his 70th birthday U.K tour. Can’t wait...
Yeah I think we’re pretty unaware of his work on this side of the pond, myself included. Rory Gallagher as well. I’ve been meaning to dig into some more of both of their work. Thanks for watching and commenting David!
GearGasms Totally agree with you there Alan about Richard Thompson and Rory Gallagher not really making an impact in the U.S despite the latter having a huge influence on guitarists such as Brian May and Alex Lifeson. With Brian it was his sound of a Vox AC30/ Rangemaster treble booster combination and with Alex it was giving Rush a support act role in 1974 touring Canada (They returned the favour in 1982). Both Rory and Richard Thompson had pure but powerful guitar sounds despite not being swamped in distortion, just the natural guitar and amp tone with great technique and musicianship.
omg, Uli is amazing. In the world at large, yeah, I'd say he's really underrated. I believe Uli was one of the guys that influenced Malmsteen (6:11 is all you need to see and hear to know that... I mean, even the yellow strat and Malmsteen plays pretty much only yellow strats) and Blackmore influenced Malmsteen as did Jimi Hendrix but Malmsteen never credits those guys. He always cites Bach. Lots of good guitarists on this list. Some I'd call great. John Sykes... his tone and vibrato... but he can also shred. Kotzen.... man, he used to could shred as well as anyone then he kind of settled into a finger picking vibe and he is a really good singer too. As for Jake, it wasn't unfortunate to follow Randy, cuz Jake was way, way better technically and I'm a Randy fan BUT it was unfortunate that Ozzy's money-grubbing wife messed Jake around. Jake was badassery. He didn't get the recognition he should have but metal guitarists know what's up. I wish he never would have joined Ozzy and Ozzy got stuck with an average player hahahah But.... it is what it is. nice list!
Here's a few that weren't on either list: Alex Lifeson (Rush): Just an amazing guitar player whose style has evolved perfectly with the times, and yet can still be quite distinctive. Criss Oliva (Savatage): Unfortunately, he died way too young, but he left an amazing legacy of music with some of the greatest sounding guitar tones of all time. Mark Kendall (Great White): Not the traditional shredder you often saw with the 80's "hair metal" crowd, Kendall's work was exquisite, especially when intertwined with the music of his band. Daryl Stuemer (Genesis, Phil Collins): I just love watching him play live, whether he was with Genesis or Collin's solo outfit.
Thanks for the shout out on #4 Kotzen. I'll share this in my Facebook group, Guitar players/builders on Fb. Paul Gilbert is another great, that can do virtually anything 🎸. btw it's U-Lee 😊👍
Lol - thanks! In my mind I always said Oooh-lee. He's a beast though! I had fun including you guys - it was my first video to do that with the screen shots and all. I hope to do more because the interaction is fun!
I feel like Richie Sambora is massively underrated. I get he’s got his issues now, but he was a MONSTER in the 80s and 90s. Dry county to me is one of the greatest solos of all time.
Hey man thanks a lot for putting Ronnie Montrose on there. It's just such a shame you know that life goes like it does he was going to have like five or six reunion gigs with Sammy again in 2012. He was a good friend to me the term power cord especially in California he created it his legs were so dominant he knew how to play fast but he knew when he needed to play two or three notes but thank you again for putting him on there that was really neat I just almost got Terry cuz he was a friend and why he wanted to leave this earth when he did but really like your videos
Great to have two players from Poison on this list! Like it! About Reb Beach. I believe rather Winger is a very underrated band than Beach as a gitar player. People always talk about him as a top player. And anyway it is the same about Kip Winger as a musician.

Great mentions of John Sykes, Reb Beach and (especially) Ty Tabor! Others that come to mind (in order from most to least...for a future part in the series): #1 - Mike Slamer #2 - Steve Lukather #3 - Mike Keneally #4 - Pete Lesperance #5 - Bob Weir #6 - Brett Garsed #7 - Bill Connors #8 - Vernon Reid #9 - Devin Townsend #10 - Jeff Watson

Good list. Reb Beach's tapping was/is one of my main inspirations for playing guitar. I also love Uli Roth. His playing (particularly the end) on the Scorpion's Top of The Bill is deliciously wicked.
Yeah he’s underrated on soooo many levels! Their bass player is from my town and we used to see them live a lot. East coast metal scene for the win! 🤘🏻
Really good list and Jake E Lee had big shoes to fill and was a big part of two epic records , may I throw in Glenn Buxton his playing on Alice Cooper’s Killer is just “killer” I was around 10 or so and that album purchase was one of my best , really good channel man I did subscribe
Actually, Brad Gillis of Night Ranger was the poor soul who played with Ozzy after Randy died. Brad had about 3 days to learn 19 songs. Brad and fellow Night Ranger guitarist Jeff Watson are both underrated. I'll go watch your part 1 of this series to see if Vito Bratta of White Lion made the list. Vito was phenomenal. Another one who should be mentioned is REO Speedwagon's Gary Richrath.
Both guys are on lists! Here's this week's video which is really more of what I actually do on GearGasms. Please give it a chance!th-cam.com/video/dTVVByoT6Sc/w-d-xo.html
Late to the party but love these lists. So many great guitar players playing in the shadows and so many players propped up by media hype but not really worthy of the accolades. Several of my favorites made the list today.
Two of my favorite underrated players are Danny Gaston and Mick Taylor. And although he’s generally considered the best acoustic guitarist on the planet, probably 90% of rock fans have never heard of Tommy Emmanuel. I’ve seen him and Mick as well as Clapton, Buddy Guy, John McLaughlin, Stevie Ray, Jeff Beck, Pat Methany and more great players but discovered an artist on another list like this at Miles of Entertainment’s video Top Ten Guitarists You Should Know But Probably Don’t that is currently my favorite guitar player. After watching that video I clicked on their playlist “Best of Billy Strings” and found an amazing display of guitar skills across several genres and this young man simply blew me away. He has.a great band as well that plays mostly bluegrass influenced music but the playlist was filled with videos of him sitting in with other bands of all types and he sounded like their star member in every one. Have since seen him live twice and I’m on the verge of saying he’s the best guitar player I’ve seen. If you’re not familiar check him out and get your mind blown.
Ty Tabor... Thank you John Sykes... absolutely! Jake E Lee... Yep, His work in Badlands is overlooked, too. BTW David Coverdale called Reb Beach, "Lord of the Strings." :-) This was a great list .
Thanks for the feedback - I actually do appreciate it. It's painful sometimes but helps me get better at doing this! Would love to have you subscribe if you'd like to follow my progress! I can't remember his name, but the guy in Journey. Obviously you won't hear Metal leads from him, but you can tell how good he is and it always sounds great. He goes for the beauty over the flash.
Did subscribe sir. Really like your approach. A player of 43 years and as awesome as I think I am. Appreciate you touching on some guitar players that I would not have ordinarily thought of. Many of those you’ve shown I have always thought were great. At fifty now and decades of playing behind me, at least for me, all the effects seem to offer an incredible edge, and all that damn tapping... far more into greats that people in her are probably far too young to know like Jerry Reed and Chet Atkins. And then there is Gatton.
At my very first concert, I was fortunate to see Jake E. Lee with Ozzy on the Ultimate Sin tour. Metallica opened the show and the greatly missed Cliff Burton.
That's awesome that John Sykes , Terry Kath and Jake E Lee made the list . Rory Gallagher is another monster player who, in my honest opinion , deserves more credit . Far more than the poison duo of CC and Kotzen . Keep it up . Great stuff . Reb Beach kicks ass too .
Richie Sambora has always been underrated imo. You watch videos of him live and he seems pretty flawless in what hes doing. Like Bon Jovi or not, hes a decent guitarist.
Am enjoying this content and must wholeheartedly agree with Alvin Lee making the list. Was listening to Ten Years After in the 70’s. ‘The Bluest Blues’ is very tasty for more recent stuff. His own fast licks are unmistakable.
My personal addictions: 1) Dave Meniketti 2) Robbin Crosby 3) Jeff Watson 4) Bruce Kulick 5) Neal Schon 6) Steve Clark 7) Dan Huff 8) Michael Landau 9) Steve Lukather 10) Josh Christian (Toxik) 11) Tommy T. Baron (Coroner) 12) Kerry Livgren 13)Akira Takasaki 14)Vivian Campbell 15) Craig Goldy 16) Dan Wexler 17) Steve Lynch 18) Edward Pursino 19) Mark Reale 20) Adrian Smith 21) Glenn Tipton 22) Steve Farris 23) David Michael Philips 24) Chris Holmes 25) Ronni Le tekro 26) Wolf Hoffman In no particular order
I like everyone on your list... I would dare add some country guys on there too. ROY CLARK, GLENN CAMPBELL, JERRY REED, AND MOST UNDERRATED GUITAR PLAYER OF ALL TIME.......MEL BAY
I am glad you Got Reb and John on this list. I put their names on your first top 10 underrated list, after the fact, but before I saw this video. I put David Flett there also. I will have to put him on the 70's list.
If the human race had to start from scratch again, the one guitar player's genetics I'd select for cloning would be Mark Knopfler's. Let's at least start things off with a sense of artistic dignity and understatement and let them devolve from there...again.
Matthias Jabs of the Scorpions always get's overlooked . But with him the Scorpions became tighter and he gave them killer riffs and burning solos . Without Jabs the Scorps dont break BIG in 1984 100 % for sure !! Reb Beach is a Monster player just like Jabs !!!
And I just saw a clip on the Gear Page that he has a smoking wife! Would love to have you subscribe if not already! It's free and it really, really helps the channel! Thanks!!!
He’s on one of these lists. There is a whole playlist of these if you’re interested! Also Mark was on my radio show twice and is a friend. The interviews are on here under Rockstar interviews
@GearGasms great radio interviews. GFR was my first concert in the spring of 1970 12 days before my 13th birthday. Then twice more in high school Before that 1st concert, I already had the first two albums. Today, I have every vinyl first print. Well, my son does as I am not in the best health and he was going to get them anyway. GFR, dominates that 400 piece collection of vinyl originals. They're my favorite rock band of all time and don't get the recognition they justify deserve. Very cool you get to call Mark friend. Tell Mark when you talk next that their music has helped me stay sane through these last 5 years. My wife knows if she here's GFR, to let me be, I am in "coping mode". Thanks
Phil Manzanera one of the greatest lead guitarists ever from Roxy Music Check 'em out. In Every Dream....Heartache, Like A Hurricane, Jealous Guy. From Brian Eno, Babies on Fire.
One of my favorite records of all time is Marc Ford's "Weary and Wired". Awesome blues rock. Funny, way back in the day I had Reb Beach's REH instructional video. It was crazy!! 100% agree with your Richie Kotzen pick. I have all of his more recent stuff, but he also did a Fusion record with Greg Howe, "Tilt" many moons ago that will blow your mind. King's X just announced a tour!! Love the list as much as the first one. Nice video!!
Thanks OG but I can't take credit - the users picked out this list 100%! Love Kotzen too - especially Winery Dogs! Glad to hear King's X is going to do something too!
I'd also have added Andy Scott of Sweet to this list. The man was doing ultra hard rockin' and early metal jams in the 70's with some wild playing that I personally feel rivaled that of Black Sabbath and Judas Priest at times.
Bravo! Most people only know sweet for their poppy chart hits but in reality they were a truly hard rocking band and could've given any of the well known rock bands around at that time a run for their money.
@@sambrooks7862 Right on! It's crazy but this one dude on facebook tried to tell me that all they did was pop music and that they weren't hard! And I even listed off some tunes of theirs to him including Set Me Free, Sweet FA, Into the Night, Medusa, Cockroach and Keep It In and he still insisted they didn't do any hard stuff! Mind boggling!
Mark Tremonti? He’s supremely UNDERRATED! My favorite guitarist of all time hands down. He’s managed to create THREE incredible bands, how many artists can match that? Not many, if any. He created Creed (who was a fantastic band even tho Scott Stapp is a hypocritical asshole like many christians) he then went on to form Alter Bridge who is my favorite band of all time and ABSOLUTELY CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED HERE IN THE STATES! He then went on to form his own solo hard rock/metal band named “Tremonti” with Garrett Whitlock and Wolfgang Van Halen!
Whole playlist of these. Mark is on the 90's list th-cam.com/play/PLJ7bQFZhdVlON6Etq3Sshhab2VEtOJ-dB.html Thanks for chiming in! What I do here is sorta garbage but it's almost kinda decent at times! Reb Beach is a perfect pick for this list. I’m likely not going to the only one on this, but I just can’t handle CC. Even the clip you used he was playing the tapping part of EVH Eruption.
@@darrellmcdonald7883... Vivian Campbell did play with Whitesnake, but that was after John Sykes left the band. The guitarist on the album "Slide It In" which came out in 1984 is John Sykes. In 1984 Vivian was already with Dio...
He is for me when you think of guitarists like slash ....moreover the trinity of guitar God s pisses me off vai satriani petrucci....as if guitar was invented by them lol... anyways thats just opinions.
@@Gamer25ize Lynch was phenomenal around _Back For The Attack_ and the first Lynch Mob album, he had everything going for him. He had a great sound, a very distinct style, technique, and his main weapon; awesome _phrasing_ ! But for some odd reason he didn't maintain that level. And his guitar sound on subsequent albums is kind of odd and thin, and his playing just wasn't that impressive anymore.
Has Michael Schenker been on any of these lists. He was 16 years old on the first Scorpions album. After that he wanted to leave Germany and go to London. He joined UFO but found a replacement for himself for the Scorpions. He was Randy Rhoads guitar hero. After Randy died Ozzy wanted Schenker to join his band be he declined. Schenker also turned down Deep Purple and Aerosmith. He received a call from the Stones but never returned the call.
@@mikenealon4042 I’m l surprised and how often I talk to rock/guitar fans that don’t know who he is. I’ve been watching a lot of his live videos and interviews lately the more user and hear the more impressed I am. 👍🏻
@@btbb3726 unfortunately, chrysalis records treated ufo like dirt. michael was only a teenager when he played on phenomenon. i could go on for hours. for the time, mid-late '70's- his playing on lights out, obsession, 🔥💥🤯. and of course, strangers in the night. or, as i call it- schenker in the night. often overlooked are the 3 (the ones he's given credit for) solos he lays down on scorpions lovedrive.
@@mikenealon4042 I saw an interview with Michael where he said that the ~producer/engineer/? Had him come into the studio to fix guitar work on few songs for the Scorpions “Blackout” album and he ended up requiring guitar tracks on all of the songs.
John Sykes, Jake E Lee, both are so great! They were both was huge influences on me. A few more, Vivian Campbell, Phil Keaggy, Frank Marino of Mahogany Rush, and Vernon Reed
Awesome list. It is great to see the Reb Beach, Richie Kotzen and others recognition. I believe Triumph's Rik Emmett and Blues Saraceno should be part of the 3rd ro ten underrated guitar players
I subscribed, then I heard you say the Doors were overrated.... And that is when I realized I made the right choice in subscribing! Keep up the good work!
Wish I would have commented when the first video came out but Billy Corgan is a ridiculously underrated guitar player that could play almost anything. He could shred with the best of them and know when to tone it back for the benefit of the song and his distorted/fuzz wall of sound tone as well as his clean tone is absolute butter. I actually modeled my second stratocaster after his with lace sensor (blue, silver, red) pickups.
No worries - I’m probably going to do another viewers choice edition. Make sure you subscribe and don’t miss it if you’re not already subbed! Thanks Daniel!
Brad Gillis followed Randy Rhoads, Jake E Lee was next. By the way, I can't believe you only have 1K subscribers, I think you're hilarious, love your comments and honesty. Not afraid to get heckled, I see. Talking about Brad Gillis, whatever happened to Jeff Watson of Night Ranger? Haven't heard of that guy in ages.
Elberto - thanks! I've only been doing the GearGasms thing for nine months. The rest of the time my channel was just my radio interviews and some half assed perfomances. Thanks so much! I have an 80's list coming up in two week that I think will be right up your alley!
My vote for one of the most underrated, if not almost forgotten guitar players is Peter Green of Fleetwood Mac. He not only replaced Eric Clapton in the Blues Breakers, he formed Fleetwood Mac and wrote Black Magic Woman. Those old Fleetwood Mac albums are classics for their guitar work, with Danny Kerwin and Jeremy Spencer, of course. 3 LEAD guitars backed by the best rhythm section of all time. That lineup was probably the best 3 guitar band of all time.
My favorite least famous guitar player is Micheal Gurley of Dada. Unfortunately, the only song anyone knows from them is Dizz Knee Land from back in the 90s. But they put out four or five solid albums, great songwriting, great guitar riffs, great solos… he’s got a unique way of phrasing, and they’re first two albums have some of the best Strat tones I’ve ever heard. The first album was produced by Ken Scott who worked on many Beatles albums. My favorite least known semi-popular guitarist is Richie Kotzen. How this guy is not selling out stadiums worldwide is beyond me. His solo catalog is incredible. then you add his stuff with Adrien Smith(Smith/Kotzen) and the Winery Dogs… he should be a household name.
That's a great comment! Please say you'll subscribe if you are not already? We need your kind around here! It really helps the channel, so I thank you!

Gah-bage!! Fellow East coast dude caught that lol. Buckethead, I feel like he's respected amongst guitarists but kinda of unknown. Just my perspective.
That would be cool. YT is really tightening down on Copyright stuff. I used all live clips for this one, hoping to avoid a copyright ding, but the Ozzy clip was a match for their screening. It's getting harder to do any kind of compilation or even play a song over a backing track. Last week, I got dinged for playing 150sec of War Pigs on a Tele over a backing track. I'm not monetized so right now it doesn't really affect me but it could. My good buddy over at Robert's Guitar Dungeon got dinged for 30 seconds of playing Metallica on an electric kazoo. Yes, a kazoo! lol Like any of those things would keep someone from buying the music - these little clips help SELL the music! Very frustrating. Of course if I could play like Mr. Dale, I'd be all good lol - thanks for your support Jesse!
Can’t lie, many of these old hair metal cats’ playing aged like milk but Richie Kotzen and Uli were both playing deeply timeless stuff. I’m a steel string slinger who came of age as a player in the 80s, and even then I knew the endless tapping triplets made me sleepy. Rhythmic drive and thoughtful phrasing and articulation are what interests me. What do I tell aspiring pickers? Think like a drum. Develop your right hand: speed, timing; articulation among strings, muting, attack, silence. It’s a good exercise to entirely damp the left hand over the neck of the guitar and devote time to developing right hand muscles and feel. A fun variant is playing just the snare parts of a song.
Other names should be on this list : Billy Rankin (Nazareth) Gary Richrath (REO Speedwagon) Vinny Burns (Dare) Trevor Rabin (Yes) Robin Trower (Procol Harum) - very dark bluesy fuzz tones, my favorite Shawn Lane (Black Oak Arkansas) Stanley Jordan Danney Alkana (Alkana)
1 - Gary Moore as Blues player. 2 - Gary Moore as Rock player 3 - Gary Moore as Fusion player. 4 - Frank Marino. 5 - Jeff Healey 6 - Vitto Bratta. 7 - Jake E Lee. 8 - Glenn Tipton / K. K. Downing 9 - Dave Murray / Adrian Smith 10 - ME (just joking, I´m #1.000.002)
Andy Scott, Rick Emmitt. Gary rickrath,Jeff healy,Phil keigie,Robin trower,Leslie west, frank morino. And the list continues. Even one from my area. Ty longly, mark chafield,Scott gorem, fast Eddie clark
I love it👍🏻 I agree with most of these with the exception of CC Deville...lol But hey that’s just my opinion, to each his own. I think that Peter Frampton is one of the most underrated players around. Phil Keaggy and Steve Morse as well.

You totally read my mind. Uli Roth is one of my all time favourites. Sails of Charon, Yellow Raven... so many great songs! He might actually be THE reason why I love the early Scorpions so much!
i believe Don Felder is under rated
Rory Gallagher, hands down the most underrated guitarist of all time. Pretty much plugged straight into the amp, had an awesome tone. Awesome.

Elliot Easton of The Cars is consistently overlooked. His solos sound easy, but are actually pretty tricky to play, technically.

Easton was a huge part of the cars signature
I was going to add this myself. Glad I read down a few comments first.
I remember being pretty impressed with Eliot Easton on those Cars hits. Still love those solos.
Yeah he inspired me to learn some country licks! Thanks for watching and commenting! Please subscribe if not already- we’d love to have you in the family!
Agreed. Gary Richrath too.
John 5. really dont understand how he doesnt get more love. can play anything. flawless technique, super interesting riffs. very musical.
I’ll probably be doing a 00s version of this. I agree and he’s amazingly versatile.
100%
Great suggestion. Plus he puts up with Trent Reznor and is super slick live
Yeah, I'm not really so much into rock players anymore, but I do really enjoy John 5, seems like a really cool guy too.
All great picks!
I like your list! I agree about Phil Keaggy. Absolute monster.. I have Glass Harp live and WOW!!
Marty gets the love for a reason... but Chris is definitely underrated.
Phil Who? Keagy.. lol
And also Holdsworth was inspirational to Keaggy as well.
If it’s any consolation I put an underrated Brit or two on my 80s version of this - check it out if you get a chance!
omg, Uli is amazing. I wish he never would have joined Ozzy and Ozzy got stuck with an average player hahahah But.... it is what it is. nice list!
Thanks!
Here's a few that weren't on either list:
Alex Lifeson (Rush): Just an amazing guitar player whose style has evolved perfectly with the times, and yet can still be quite distinctive.
There’s a whole playlist of these if you’re interested
Thanks for the shout out on #4 Kotzen. I'll share this in my Facebook group, Guitar players/builders on Fb. Paul Gilbert is another great, that can do virtually anything 🎸.
btw it's U-Lee 😊👍
Lol - thanks! In my mind I always said Oooh-lee. He's a beast though! I had fun including you guys - it was my first video to do that with the screen shots and all. I hope to do more because the interaction is fun!
Great list!! Glad to see Terry Kath and Ty Taybor included!!

I feel like Richie Sambora is massively underrated. I get he’s got his issues now, but he was a MONSTER in the 80s and 90s. Dry county to me is one of the greatest solos of all time.
Agreed

Reb Beach and John Sykes are fantastic and underrated. Good call. Gary Richrath from REO was underrated too.
Thanks Brother Robert!
Totally agree ! Gary was as tasty as they come !
Reb is the reason winger became my favorite hair band. 😎😎
Great mentions of John Sykes, Reb Beach and (especially) Ty Tabor!
Others that come to mind (in order from most to least...for a future part in the series):
#1 - Mike Slamer
#2 - Steve Lukather
#3 - Mike Keneally
#4 - Pete Lesperance
#5 - Bob Weir
#6 - Brett Garsed
#7 - Bill Connors
#8 - Vernon Reid
#9 - Devin Townsend
#10 - Jeff Watson
Definitely with you on Reb and Uli - of course Robbie K. King's X - one of the best rock band of the 90s... still crushing it today.
New music is supposed to be on the way from them!
Ty Tabor! Great call. King's X, so overlooked. Still missing Rik Emmett. A specialist in all areas.

Good list. Reb Beach's tapping was/is one of my main inspirations for playing guitar.
I also love Uli Roth. His playing (particularly the end) on the Scorpion's Top of The Bill is deliciously wicked.
Yeah he’s a strange genius
Also Tom Keifer of Cinderella! I've always heard he did the majority of the guitar work on the album's. And Gypsy road, the brief solo is amazing!
Welcome to the family!❤️
@@GearGasms Ty 🤘
Actually, Brad Gillis of Night Ranger was the poor soul who played with Ozzy after Randy died. Brad had about 3 days to learn 19 songs. Brad and fellow Night Ranger guitarist Jeff Watson are both underrated. I'll go watch your part 1 of this series to see if Vito Bratta of White Lion made the list. Vito was phenomenal. Another one who should be mentioned is REO Speedwagon's Gary Richrath.

Damn spellcheck-Danny Gatton
Yep gotta love Billy👍
Ty Tabor... Thank you
John Sykes... absolutely!
Jake E Lee... Yep, His work in Badlands is overlooked, too.
BTW David Coverdale called Reb Beach, "Lord of the Strings." :-)
This was a great list .
What a nice thing to say! Thanks so much!
Roy Buchanan! Known by guitar players, but overlooked most of the time in lists.

The most underrated Guitarist is Mike Oldfield.
Scary technique !
I agree
I can't remember his name, but the guy in Journey. Obviously you won't hear Metal leads from him, but you can tell how good he is and it always sounds great. He goes for the beauty over the flash.
Neal Schon! Was just watching some Journey live vids last night! He’s great!
@@GearGasms Yup! That's him, thanks! Like I said, he goes for the beauty. :-)
I always loved Schon's soaring leads! He plays super high notes, and stays there!!
Stone in Love
Did subscribe sir. Really like your approach. A player of 43 years and as awesome as I think I am. Appreciate you touching on some guitar players that I would not have ordinarily thought of. Many of those you’ve shown I have always thought were great. At fifty now and decades of playing behind me, at least for me, all the effects seem to offer an incredible edge, and all that damn tapping... far more into greats that people in her are probably far too young to know like Jerry Reed and Chet Atkins. And then there is Gatton.
Thanks RC!
At my very first concert, I was fortunate to see Jake E. Lee with Ozzy on the Ultimate Sin tour. Metallica opened the show and the greatly missed Cliff Burton.
Same!!!

✌🏻🤘🏻🎸
Mick Taylor the most underreated guitar player of the 70's. The Stones couldn't replace him. He played the same, but he was so smooth.
I saw the Stones in 2012, Mick Taylor came on to play Midnight Rambler he took it up another level despite Richards & Clapton on the same stage.
I saw him when he played with Alvin Lee, I think, opening up for Sabbath on the Mob Rules tour
For some reason, the only Mayall guitarist to get his just due is Clapton. Mick Taylor, Peter Green, and Harvey Mandel all deserve to be better known.

John Sykes has been my favorite guitarist since 1987👍
I agree he's awesome. Maybe I'm biased because he was born in the same town as me.😂
If the human race had to start from scratch again, the one guitar player's genetics I'd select for cloning would be Mark Knopfler's. Let's at least start things off with a sense of artistic dignity and understatement and let them devolve from there...again.

@GearGasms great radio interviews. GFR was my first concert in the spring of 1970 12 days before my 13th birthday. I'd also have added Andy Scott of Sweet to this list. The man was doing ultra hard rockin' and early metal jams in the 70's with some wild playing that I personally feel rivaled that of Black Sabbath and Judas Priest at times.

I’m l surprised and how often I talk to rock/guitar fans that don’t know who he is. I’ve been watching a lot of his live videos and interviews lately the more user and hear the more impressed I am. 👍🏻
@@btbb3726
unfortunately, chrysalis records treated ufo like dirt. michael was only a teenager when he played on phenomenon. i could go on for hours. for the time, mid-late '70's- his playing on lights out, obsession, 🔥💥🤯. and of course, strangers in the night.
or, as i call it- schenker in the night.
often overlooked are the 3 (the ones he's given credit for) solos he lays down on scorpions lovedrive.
Cool list! There’s a whole playlist of these if you’re interested! 🤘🏻🎸
Awesome list. It is great to see the Reb Beach, Richie Kotzen and others recognition.
I believe Triumph's Rik Emmett and Blues Saraceno should be part of the 3rd ro ten underrated guitar players
There’s a whole playlist of these if you’re interested! Thanks!
I subscribed, then I heard you say the Doors were overrated....
And that is when I realized I made the right choice in subscribing! Keep up the good work!
John Sykes and Jake E Lee might be forgotten today but most people I spoke with in the 80s liked them.
🤘🏻
Wish I would have commented when the first video came out but Billy Corgan is a ridiculously underrated guitar player that could play almost anything. He could shred with the best of them and know when to tone it back for the benefit of the song and his distorted/fuzz wall of sound tone as well as his clean tone is absolute butter. I actually modeled my second stratocaster after his with lace sensor (blue, silver, red) pickups.
No worries - I’m probably going to do another viewers choice edition. Make sure you subscribe and don’t miss it if you’re not already subbed! Thanks Daniel!
Props for including Ty Tabor. That guy is a monster player,
Glad you enjoyed it! It would be awesome if you'd subscribe if not already and help tell folks about GearGasms. It's small but growing fast!
💯💯
"Sails Of Cheron" is my absolute FAVORITE guitar solo EVER.
Great taste!
@@GearGasms my second favorite guitar solo is by Larry Carlton, and you can probably guess which one that is.
Something off Aja?
"Kid Charlemagne."
@alanmatthew5713 nice!
Good list!
Glad you enjoyed it Would love to have you subscribe if not already! It's free and it really, really helps the channel! Thanks!!!
He’s on one of these vids there’s a whole playlist
Steve Stevens, Viv Campbell, Rory Gallagher, Pete Anderson, Robin Crosby, Amir Derak, Vito Bratta, Adrian Vandenberg
Paul Kosoff.

Ty Tabor….YES!!!
@@GearGasms Done!

Really enjoying your Channel. I would be interested in seeing a tribute to Dick Dale.
Great blasts from the pasts.... I don't know why I never focused in on the individuals back in the day
There’s a whole playlist of these if you’re interested!
That’s Nuno’s approach as well- think like a drummer
Other names should be on this list :
Billy Rankin (Nazareth)
Gary Richrath (REO Speedwagon)
Vinny Burns (Dare)
Trevor Rabin (Yes)
Robin Trower (Procol Harum) - very dark bluesy fuzz tones, my favorite
Shawn Lane (Black Oak Arkansas)
Stanley Jordan
Danney Alkana (Alkana)
Gary is on another list
1 - Gary Moore as Blues player.
2 - Gary Moore as Rock player
3 - Gary Moore as Fusion player.
4 - Frank Marino.
5 - Jeff Healey
6 - Vitto Bratta.
7 - Jake E Lee.
8 - Glenn Tipton / K. K. Downing
9 - Dave Murray / Adrian Smith
10 - ME (just joking, I´m #1.000.002)
I’ll put you at 14 🤓🤘🏻
Andy Scott, Rick Emmitt.

Thanks for taking the time to comment! I'd love it if you'd help out the channel by subscribing! It's mostly amateur hour but I'm getting better!

I discovered Savatage in the 80s and can't believe Criss Oliva is looked over so much.

🔊🎶Jeff Golub was lead guitarist for
Billy Squire. Saw them 1982 at the War
Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, 1982. Loved his leads in " Lonely Is The Night."🔊🎵🎼.
Lucky you!
Billy Squire is no slouch on guitar either .
@@BruceStephan🎼 I saw them twice in the early 80's. 🎼 Bassist Kenny Aaronson was epic and definitely his best bass player.
It was Billy's band and he was a good showman and he was a fine rhythm guitarist and could play lead riffs somewhat, but there was a reason he had Jeff as main lead master 🎸⚡....second time I saw them it was with a different bassist and clearly lacking Kenny's masterful touch.
🎵 Man, that was soooo long ago!!
@@Whitevaliantwarrior I miss the OLD MTV . They had a free Saturday night concert of Billy Squire when he made it big . I think it's as close as Billy Squire doing a concert in Alaska .
@@BruceStephan 🎼 Are you in Alaska?
Man still no Glenn Tipton, He's way better than all the shreddy guys on this list. He has real soul.. I'm also shocked that one of the commenters called Alex Lifeson "Underrated" Around here you can't talk to a single guitarist without him raving on and on about him. I like Rush but Jeez, Noone in that band could be called over rated.
Agreed!
