What great choices and I did laugh at your second choice, not because of the razor; it remains one of my favourites, and a classic in it's own right, but because it took 200 years to get to you. That tickled me. You have some lovely razors Sig. Those eleven are well chosen. All the best.

      Thank you, Mate!
Hehe! It tooks 14 weeks to get here and it felt like 200 years... ;O)
It's very hard to pick 11 razors from my den. It's like chosing my favorite child of the 5 in the flock.
I decided to pick new ones for each category, but sentimental. I left out some really amazing razors, that I love: The Fatboy, The Fat Handle Tech, The Slim, the 6S/6C, the Progress, the Yates, the Henson, the Charcoal Goods Lvl2 and many more. For each category (but sentimental) I have 20-40 razors to pick from...
I'm sure you'll be tagged and face the 'Sophie's Choice'....
      Thanks for watching!
      Have a great week!
      And
      Stay Safe!

Great list Sig, even more refined than last year’s. Thank you for the great content!
Seeing you being humble and sincere as you are, not shying away from the nicks and cuts and telling us that it is normal and happens even to those who shave publicly is really terrific, thanks also for that! Greeting from Portugal!

I almost always get a cut or at least a small weeper... Usually it just a very little one( or two, three ,o) ) on the right side of my neck or under the nostrils... I have a 'bumpy road' in those areas... ;O)
It happens almost all of us on a regular basis.
      Thanks for watching!

@@SIGSOLO yeah depending on the razor I get it too. Currently struggling with what I had on my radar as my possible GOAT, the Blackland Vector. Even with a milder blade I have been getting nicks and a lot irritation on the side of the lips, below and around the chin and on either side of the neck +- 5cm away from the Adam's Apple. But one must be dedicated as you say so well =)

When these videos first started going around I didn't have enough razors to make a list. I recently decided to try it. Like you said, so many razors could go into different categories. You can put a Tech in so many different places. Autopilot, classic, daily driver, under appreciated, budget, cannot be ignored... The one razor on my list that surprised me was that I chose the Merkur 34C for classic. I'm a big fan of vintage razors, and I picked something that is a current production model instead of something that hasn't been made for 100 years. I know it goes back to the 1930s, but it's more because today's shavers have been using that razor longer than most others. Most people had a 34C before any vintage razors.

      1. Style: Gillette ABC Pocket
      2. Budget Friendly: Gillette Tech
      3. Under Appreciated: Gillette Super Speed
      4. Premium: Rex Ambassador - normal version
      5. Sentimental: Gillette Slim Adjustable (I started wet shaving because I'm a James Bond fan, and this is the razor from Goldfinger)
      6. Versatile: Rockwell 6S
      7. Classic: Merkur 34C
      8. Daily: Gillette UK Aristocrat
      9. Autopilot: Gillette Red Tip
      10. Aggressive: Rex Ambassador - an earlier batch from 2017 that's much more aggressive than the normal version
      11. Cannot be ignored: Razorock Game Changer

I missed your 2021 selection. But I must say I was surprised the Rockwell 6S was not included in your 2022 selection. While I barely have 11 razors, I could easily pick the 6S in the daily driver, versatility, or auto-pilot category. If I could only choose ONE DE razor for life it would be the 6S. Having said all that, I am beyond impressed at how many DEs you have. Most of the ones in your 2022 selection are better looking in style and finish than my 6S. But when it comes to a close, comfortable, smooth shave, I still say the 6S is a safety razor that anyone (newbie or experienced) can get an A+ shave...even blindfolded. BTW, one day I will break down and buy a 34C simply because it seems that everyone has that one except me 😱 Great video despite the 6S oversight 😉 Take care, and keep on keeping on!

Thank you for sharing your point of view. I really appreciated you taking the time to respond like this.
I agree that the the 6S/6C is a fantastic razor and also one of my favorite razors!
The 6S was the in the versatility spot last year. The 6S/6C could easily be put into 6 or 7 of the categories, as I said last year. I decided to use new razors this year in all categories but sentimental. All this to not waste your time with re-runs of last years razors. The 6S/6C is in my top 5 of DE razors, as I stated earlier.
For each category I have 20-40 razors to pick from.
I have linked the 2021 vid in the description.

Greetings my friend and wonderful video. You have a great collection of razors. I own only four razors... my Grand Father's 1959 Gillette Fatboy and another Fatboy, my Father's Gillette L2 Slim adjustable razor he bought in 1966, and I have an L4 Gillette Slim also from 1966.
I am looking to get a other razor or two from different manufacturers. Two I am looking at are the Edwin Jagger on Amazon and the Merkur mk34c.
If we don't speak in the next few days, I wish you a Merry Christmas... if you celebrate it. Anyway, have a wonderful holiday.

Sounds like you inherited some great razors!
The 34C was my first DE razor... I'll love it to death; however I also have a couple of DE89's and they a great, too... The Muhle R89 Twist is my favourite of all the most common 'starter' razors...
And a Merry Christmas to you and your family!

@@SIGSOLO I will look at that DE89 razor as well. I have a rather coarse beard, but the skin on my neck is relatively sensitive at the same time. So I prefer a mild razor with a good sharp blade. I don’t enjoy my shave as much when using a very aggressive razor. Instead of enjoying my shave I find my self giving too much attention to my razor, so I don’t slice up my face… lol
I love my vintage razors, especially the ones that I inherited from my grandfather and my father, they are very special to me. While I am perfectly satisfied with my vintage adjustable Gillette razors, I do want to try something different not to replace my existing razors but just to have something different to add to my rotation.
Is the DE 89 a mild razor like the 34C? I also very often shave daily if meeting with University staff or colleagues in the field, and wild bird guiding and doing wildlife educational programs. This is another reason I prefer mild shaving razors.
Next week I’m going to order some of those Treet blades you told me about. I love my Personna Comfort Coated and Astra Superior Platinum blades, but I will give the Treet blades a go, and could have them in hand as well. Each blade and razor has a character and quality of their own and I enjoy have different pleasurable experiences shaving.

@@SIGSOLO Sorry, just realized the DE89 is the Edwin Jagger. The only thing that concerns me about that is the very smooth chrome handle it’s very beautiful but it might be slippery when your hands are wet and soapy. But then again before I hold my razor I always wipe my hands with a towel first, so perhaps that isn’t an issue.

    • @SIGSOLO
      @SIGSOLO  ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@georgesilverhawkstrailcame2297 If I remember correct the DE89 is a micro fraction more aggressive (the gap)
I think I'd get a Muhle R89 Twist or a Merkur 34C in your position. I like them a little better. Disclaimer I have 4-5 DE89's also. I just don't use them as often...
In the vintage world I'd grab a Gillette Ball End Tech (50's - 60's) They are full brass (nickel plated)and my favorite vintage razor. Later down the line also a Fat Handle Tech; But they come with three different gaps depending on year and country...

My Yaqi TFC appeals to give a 1.01mm blade gap at the minimalist. It was really confused when yaqi told me the minimalist is 0.7. So sad that other parts of the TFC are fantastic.
Also my Yaqi telstar measured at 1.12 than yaqi said 0.85.

      Thank you, Buddy!
I'm not sure how you measure the gap or where you got the numbers from Yaqi from(I've never been able to get numbers from Yaqi).
However a mistake a lot of people make when they measure the gap is the lack of blade. The gap is measured with a medium thick ness blade inserted in the razor (if it's a modern razor). Vintage razors are measured with one of the old vintage thicker blades inserted...
If this didn't help write Yaqi a mail...

    Ciao.
    Bel video!
Secondo me, sarebbe interessante vedere ogni rasoio "armato".
    Ciao💈

Hello. It would be interesting to see each razor "armed" to understand how far the end of the cutting edge is from the end of the plate and the blade cover. For example, my Razorock Lupo DC is right on the edge and when I finish the goatee it is PERFECT between the lip and mustache. 1hug from Italy !! 💈

      I understood you first comment(with a little help from Googgle-Translate ;O) ) .
I'll put blades in the razors next time to show the reveal and gap.
If you're interested I have made in-depth-going reviews using them all. The vids are here in my channel's catalog if you want an in-depth review on either.

Hi Sig, I was wondering which one you prefer M R89 or Feather as2d, please?
Your advice would be greatly appreciated Sig.

I like both razors. However the AS-D2 needs a shim and a very sharp blade to perform as great as the R89.
I have 3 versions of the R89... I like the R89 Twist the best!

I have the WSD2 and I love it so much. If you’re looking for something mild, it’s the end of your search. It’s the same thing as the ASD2 but it’s a wooden handle instead of all steel.

#1. A Slightly Belated but very SINCERELY WISHED_ HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! You're a warmer more emotional Family Type Guy than I am; so, I am certain that You and Your Brood had a Smashing Good Time. You deserve it. I hope you enjoyed and are continuing to enjoy over the next several days.
#2. It's interesting to see how you estimate the various characteristics, qualities, attributes and subtleties between all these razors. It is perhaps more fascinating than interesting and always enjoyable to see. Thank You.
And on that halfway civilized note I bid you, "Later Dude"... :D ;-)

As always I appreciate you commenting and taking the time to actually discuss this and that. 🤜💥🤛
I was sent to South Greenland to solve some issues Wednesday afternoon. I'll be here(a long way from home) until Sunday or Monday.
Funny how life throw a cure-ball when everything looks straight forward.
Hence my first Travel Shave in a 5.2 ft x 5.2 ft bathroom, tomorrow.🤭
      About my picks,
I have maybe 20-30 razors that would be a good selection for each category; And many of the ones I picked could easily be used in multiple categories.
When I look at the list in hindsight Isee some great razors missing e.g. Rockwell 6S/6C, Yates, Charcoal, Progress, Gillette FH Tech/Slim/Fatboy/BlackBeauty, Windsor Pro, Gamechanger/Lupo, Henson. The list goes on and on... The 11 I picked represent a good variety/selection of razors that could make the rest of my shaves enjoyable. I have 150 other DE's that could have made mine or anybody elses list. Add 35 SE's that had to be left out because of the rules.
A list made in a week would (most likely) look completely different. 🙃
All that said; It's a fun game to play...😉
      Thanks for watching!
      Have a great weekend!
