I can't believe that I'm late to seeing this! I guess this is a hint that I need to not work so much or get on TH-cam between appointments. I'm so geeked you made this video! The Micro version gets really fast on the higher levels. I've never curses so many times playing Frogger. LOL I've been using the pandemic as an excuse to do the same thing and fill in my collection. My Arcade Galaga was my latest addition. I also recently made a discovery that the Micro Arcades fit perfectly in those business card displays we use in our lobby. So, I picked up a clear acrylic one to display my Micro Arcades. With Frogger in the coveted center slot, of course! Looks so neat with all the different colors and transparent view into the "guts" of the boards. I'm working on designing some label cards (based on the cabinet graphics) to slip behind each one as a placeholder when I have them out and have the game name at the top so it's above the game when it's in the slot.
The original song used in the arcade version of Frogger is a Japanese children's song, "Maigo no Koneko chan". It seems that it was not included due to copyright of song.
Awesome content, I recently started getting very interested in collecting retro games - and the micro arcade remind me of Nintendo's Game and Watch which I have been trying to collect. Now I want to get these micro arcades, so neat!
Hi Jon, Excellent comparison of these two units! I wasn't sure which one to get and enjoy playing both. I also picked up both of these units for Q*Bert and absolutely love the Tiny Arcade version. Could you do a comparison for Q*Bert....Tiny Arcade vs. Basic Fun? Thanks for your consideration. Keep these comparison videos coming...I really enjoying watch them!!!
@@GenXGrownUp Hi Jon, so I have been mulling over 3 my arcade units.... Bad Dudes, Rolling Thunder, and Elevator Action. Which one would you pick if you could only buy one and why? Thanks for your consideration.
@@brianredick5782 You've picked three pretty good ones. All three are multi-screen adventures with more to do than just clear levels. But for me it's not a tough choice. Rolling Thunder would be my first pick. Elevator Action is a favorite, but not as varied and interesting as RT. Bad Dudes is fine, but ultimately just a beat-em-up, and I don't care for the NES port of Bad Dudes. So if I were rating those three, it would go... 1. Rolling Thunder 2. Elevator Action 3. Bad Dudes
@@GenXGrownUp Wow, thanks for the ultra fast response, thoughts, and recommendation!!! You awesome! I will be ordering Rolling Thunder soon! Thanks for all that you do and the time and effort you put in all of your videos!!!
Why do your videos drop at the best time? I was stressed about how disappointing I was with Namco Museum Archives Vol 2. I made a video on it not long ago. I wonder if there are mini Galaxian handhelds by Super Impulse.
BTW, just watched your NMA2 video. If you ever feel like a fun listen, you might consider listening to the Galaga 40th Anniversary edition of our pod. It's just from a few week back and we talk about Galaxian, Gaplus, and more: genxgrownup.com/galaga-40th/
Today was a really nice cool day. When I was on my four hour hundred miles ride I didn't even sweat all that time. It felt so good, and I just wish it was like this all year round, but we can't get what we want. I made my goal, and than some for today, and when I got home I was so freaking tired. I don't want to take a nap all because I'm afraid that I won't be able to go to sleep tonight. I'm so drowsy, but I"m going to fight it. I ask my boys to go shopping for wheat bread so I could make some sandwiches tomorrow for lunch before I do my ride again, get some energy so I don't fall off my bike. I don't know what the H E double hokey sticks they're doing that's taking so long. It's cold in my house finally. When I got home it was hot since no one turned the aircoundition on since last night. I think I'll have to go shopping myself since they're not even budging out of the house.
I know this have nothing to do with the video but really i cant belive we didnt got a Mappy mini arcade from basic fun is one day they make one I would like to see Mappy my arcade VS arcade classics basic fun
I didn’t realize the 80’s Frogger music was licensed.Okay that explains why no matter how arcade like Frogger is on these two games you are reviewing,Frogger isn’t Frogger without the iconic music from the 80’s Frogger. On those tiny arcades most look like the arcade artwork & I wonder now If those are licensed because even on my 80’s Coleco Frogger the artwork looked just like the arcade version. I am a new subscriber and I am enjoying your videos.
Thanks, and welcome, Chris. Yes, the original Frogger theme is an old Japanese nursery rhyme, and tracking down the rights is apparently a logistics nightmare, so re-releases just forego it and replace it with cute tunes in a similar style.
Wonder why they never use the original Frogger song anymore. I understand about the copyright issue, but surely it can’t cost THAT much to license it? 🤷♂️
I've tried to dig up information on it, and it's not readily available. The best I can deduce is that it's not so much the cost of licensing, but the cost of tracking down exactly who owns the copy right to this decades-old nursery rhyme tune.
Do you have any idea why in the 4 level of frogger micro arcade each time a frog arrive to the end of the level, you lose 1 life? I have the same problem, is a bug?
You know, I have seen these around numerous places in the past but I never got one because I just couldn't imagine playing a game on those teeny tiny screens.
@@GenXGrownUp May I say it means a lot you are willing to go back to a video from a couple years ago and respond to a comment. Many wouldn't do that. It's appreciated. thank you

What you think of Freeplay Arcade in Rhode Island?

The diving turtles are a bit accelerated on both versions of the game as well
