I have a theory on zerg play. it is only a theory no proof.. I feel like building one hatchery extra every time you expand gets you so many units because of larva that it is worth it. in addition to this is the fact that you can saturate your bases after an attack almost instantly. Captain if you feel so inclined please give us your thoughts on this type of style either way, as in for or against this as a pro move.
300 mineral is 6 drones less, that would cut into economy too much early on and you won't have enough resources to exploit the extra Larvas, don't get me wrong adding 1-2 extra hatchery this game would have been good, 1 hatch per minute is the most I've seen and that's coming from Dark.
Hello, I'm a new player and Zerg is my favorite race. I struggle with them though due to the constant need for injection cycles and creep spread. Usually I just send one tumor out at a time to spread my creep, but I notice Harstem using many. Should I always lay down multiple tumors and spread them as a group? What is the benefit of doing so?
The biggest advantage of spawning creep tumors in clusters is that you can spread multiple tumors at a time and you can split them up eventually, so your queens dont have to be all over the map.
@@goul7712 That makes sense, I'll try to spawn more of them. This game is very hard for a new player unfamiliar with RTS but I'm trying to learn the right way using control groups and stuff. Mostly I just end up using the all army key though, I've heard it is good to unbind it so you don't form bad habits but I'm like 40-60 APM at best rn so I'm just trying to form the muscle memory and stuff. Not sure why I said all this but thanks for answering.
what mmr/rank are you rn? creep isn't too important at the lower level, you should focus on having good macro (drones, bases, injects) first. Don't try to overdo it with all the stuff that requires a high apm, focus on mastering the fundamentals and you will be able to build up to more consistent creep and unit micro
Multiple tumors spread creep more quickly so you are guaranteed to reach the max spread distance by the time the tumor is ready to spread while also covering a bigger area. You just need to get used to the rhythm of Inject, spread creep, produce, micro units. at first it can be overwhelming but it becomes second nature if you just keep practicing it
@@williamwyckoff I don't know my rank yet, I've played a few games and got stomped so for now I've been focusing on learning build orders mostly vs the AI. I can beat them pretty easily on harder difficulty with Protoss. If I had to guess I'm probably at a bronze or silver level, I started about a week ago. I only know about stuff like injection because I've looked up a lot of guides, I was just building a lot of hatcheries before that. I'll probably start doing some proper matches once I feel like I can comfortably execute a Zerg build order and get used to injection cycles. Zerg feels much harder than Protoss or Terran for a beginner I think, but they're my favorite thematically and I wanna get good at them. I'm also still messing with hotkeys. I prefer grid right now but I've heard it is better in the long run to learn standard. Not too sure. Thanks for the advice btw, any is appreciated. Learning this game is quite a challenge but I really enjoy it so far.
Final criticism, your best composition has always been whatever you feel confident with, but I suggest using a more balanced approach, for instance, presenting with zealot stalker while transitioning to void ray mothership.. why? because as you build up disrupters you need to destroy their air defense which is usually the downfall of your disrupter count. if you build 2 air units for every disrupter you can take the guesswork out of your strategy. All builds lead to air.

1. Push forward with Hydras 2. Use lurkers like widow mines (1 or 2 in any one area, have them follow the Hydras and burrow as soon as the enemy is spotted) 3. Retreat over lurkers 4. Mass viper to deal with air It's a solid strategy
I bet it would work better if we had a ranged unit that only cost 50 minerals instead of 100/50, and if we had an artillery unit with 12 range right out of the gate instead of 11 after an upgrade. Unfortunately that would probably be too broken to put into the game
@@BobertJoe Come on... 11 range lurker is super strong and its invisible. Also, have more splash than the tank. Just QQ here. And Vipers are super strong, one of them can disable like 5 tanks come on !! Why the need to cry, just get better.
I never understood why the Hydra isn't more popular anyway. The Roach is tankier sure, but also deals less damage. Zerg playing Roach over Hydra kinda seemed odd since Terrans prefer Marines over Marauders who are the same in that regard. Of course I'm just a dumb Terran who never looked much into Zerg since they are ugly crab-Insect-reptiles.
because roach warren is pool tech and hydra den is lair and a not insignificant amount of the reason marines are preferred is they can be reactored; not the same deal with zerg

I get more vipers because they tank lines are the scariest for this and they break them so well

The problem is they don't fly... flying units can out range them and kill them. And Terrans can lift their buildings so no base trade.
