- The US Air Force wants to cut its purchases of new MH-139A Grey Wolf utility helicopters, which it is buying to replace older UH-1N Twin Hueys, in half.
The truncated Grey Wolf fleet is still set to replace the UH-1Ns that help guard America's intercontinental ballistic missile silos, but the future of other Twin Huey-equipped units is now in question.
This includes the 1st Helicopter Squadron based just outside Washington, D.C., which is currently ready to scoop up key officials and spirit them to safety in the event of a major crisis, among other missions.
That General F'ed up! With the retirement of the HH-60G Pavehawk, these should've been the replacement for the Huey. But no! The Paves are everything the missile wiennies need and then some. And, it would give the Air Force a pool of trained H-60 pilots and crews to rotate in and out. The aircraft, minus the refueling probe, is far more capable than the "Greywolf" will ever be. The -139 program is a massive waste of money and in the long run, won't give the missile kids what they need. Furthermore, to code it as "MH" when it will NEVER deploy into combat, is another failure.
So the Air Force could not find one American helicopter for the replacement?
We call those types of people...Noner's.
