Manna Ebenezer I am using a hook of size 13 and the yarn brand is Yardley wool .
In few yarns what size of hook should be used will be mentioned in the cover/label , you can also see to it.

This placemat is of medium size only . You have to increase the number of stitches in each round only then your mat will lie flat other wise it will curl .
Bigger sized mat Star Blanket : th-cam.com/video/k4f7RsG1q_U/w-d-xo.html . You can try this mat , you can increase the number of rounds and it will lie flat on the ground. Thank you
