The marketing campaign bit actually looked pretty brilliant for this game. Clearly trying to play on people's perception of those well-known properties and piggybacking off of their success... just like the game itself. It's both meta and clever. Also Matt your use of MvC2 music is *chef's kiss*. Love it.

I wonder, is Jak 3 worth of a „Wha Happun“? I read that the development of the game was actually very troublesome and had a lot of problems surrounding it, which explains why gameplaywise Jak 3 is near identical to Jak 2 who actually did a 180 to Jak and Daxter.
@@MakoShiruba you might be right, but i always thought Lost Frontier and Jak X were self explainatory. Just like Crash, the game after the Trilogy would be a racing game and even thou the racing itself wasn’t great, the story was actually far better than Jak 3‘s story which was mediocre at best. And Lost Frontier was a PSP port to the PS2 and i think ND tried to see if the game could still sell because Uncharted came out 2 years prior and ND simply saw the buisness practice of a new, more profitable franchise on the next gen console snd Uncharted was a big success. So why spend people working on a series that run it‘s course? But Jak 3 was marketed as „the grand finale to the Trilogy“ and considering the gameplay was identical to Jak 2, Kiera and Samos had bareley any importance or even lines (to the point getting Ashley at the end) and a story that felt rather rushed, it will have a lot more to talk about. So i do think Jak 3 has some more stories than Jak X or Lost Frontier. But again, you might be right after all.
Also! Recently Interplay released two volumes of collection's of their old games onto the "Evercade" it's a cartridge based handheld system and it even has games on it from Namco.
The whole 2015 remake promise and mention being developed by "someone that doesn't exist" is very shady, or gives the impression that it's all now managed by one person. I can only guess this was a bid to try and increase value in their company but why they can't just say "The series will not be returning in the forseeable future" Instead of a empty promise?
From my understanding, it's basically a mix of bad Marketing ("THIS GAME SUCKS".Is just...bad as a stratety) and kinda not reading the room on what people at the time were looking for in RPGs. (Chrono Trigger came out the same year, PS1 was out, and it was kind of a lull in RPGs in the West)
One video and I'm already subscribed. I love questions like these especially surrounding games I played as a kid. I think I'll end up liking your content as much as I enjoy Mandalore Gaming!
Remember playing this series back in the day. Sadly as newer sequels came out they just kept on getting worse. It still has potential, but unfortunately due to certain publishers it might as well be an indie made game.
And you can add shutting down fan projects to Interplay's wrapsheet. Someone was working onna fangame: ClayFighter Rescuplted that would run on the Unity engine that allowed for vibrant coloring and claylike texturing. But then InterPlay cunts that they are issued a C&D earlier this week. Good thing the team is working on an independent project with their assests but it's horrible that companies like InterPlay will hoard IPs, not do shit with them and try to stop anyone else that tries to do something out of love for the franchise
I really love Clay Fighters, I have a big underdog mentality when it comes to the games. I know the game is super clunky but it's really fun. The idea is there and I think Bad Mr Frosty, Taffy, Ickybod and Blob are cool characters. If they could give us a new game modeled after the KI reboot with the same people I think it has potentional to be a sleeper hit. I think Clayfighter 63 1/3 really improved the series added Claytalities, combos, and super moves but it fell flat because no one took it serious. Please bring back a new Clayfighter.
Everybody talking about Scary Movie, but i'm here waiting for a "What Happun?" about SEGA's American Localizations, since it's an interesting topic in games development
@@stevedoidoultimate4815 Don't you remember that whenever SEGA (in the 90's) made a game with Anime-style on it (E.x. Puyo Puyo, Pupful Mail, Lunar: The Silver Star), they did the possible to ot localize them, or localize them with a new coat of paint (Basically, repaint the game to have other stuff in the western releases, or just change the context of the original game). Puyo Puyo (First game) half suffered this with Kirby and Dr. Robotnik, but at least got a "Proper localization" o the Arcade version... which was garbage. Popful Mail, ALMOST was repainted in Sister Sonic, but fans demands wanted faithful localizations of japanese games. As a result, they gave us games with very goofy dialogue and WAAAY to much censorship. And Working Desings, american distribuitor which localized almost every single japanese game in english, did an awful job localizing it's library. Sure, then we got faithful stuff in later years like Shenmue, Puyo Pop GBA/Puyo Pop Fever, or Skies of Arcadia... But it wasn't enough. Pretty much, they were A LOT of games left to localize, or that never got a proper localization, thanks to that mentality that "anime doesn't sell well", and were lef over as just Hidden Gems exclusive from Japan. SEGA then would work with ATLUS and other most popular localization companies, to start localizing properly their games, with the coat of paint they deserved. Then SEGA would ruin it again, with PuyoPuyo!! Quest localization (Cranky Food Friends), which led to some controversy of not properly localizing Puyo in the West, only having Fever and the horrendous arcade game, as their most popular localizations. Since Puyo Puyo Tetris, that curse may have been broken (still there was no Puyo Puyo Chronicle world-wide release, which is dissapointing), but to this day, SEGA acknowledges (mostly their fans), about this problem they had.
I was unreasonably attached to Clayfighter 63 1/3 as a little kid, and I've longed to see this franchise return for almost multiple decades now. I would even compromise for 3D animation that just *looks like* clay, but of course, digitized clay models would be the bee's knees. The FGC has changed a lot - hell, it's even recognized with a cute acronym - so I think it's a good time for Clayfighter to return to roast it all. Only, I hope they can make it both funny *and* a good, balanced, competitive fighter this time.

Learning what happened behind it should be interesting.
Also, please do a Wha Happun on Sonic Forces.
Edit: Clay almost doesn't sound like a word now.
"LET'S GET READY TO CRUMBLLLLLLEEEEEE"
back in my day; this was the 1st game to actually have an in game theme song.
Can we have a "Wha Happun to Tenchu"? Man I really miss that game!
@@silverreaps6803 oh I really hope so. That would be so cool
Damn, that's great idea. I really loved those games. Interesting to note that Sekiro actually (supposedly) started as a Tenchu game but they decided to make it into a new game instead.
I remember that game.
Bump in the Night? Now that takes me back.
That bullshot of the libertystatue clayfighter at 11:00? THAT takes me back even more.
I don't think I was this early for an Wha Happun episode
The marketing campaign bit actually looked pretty brilliant for this game. Clearly trying to play on people's perception of those well-known properties and piggybacking off of their success... just like the game itself. It's both meta and clever.
Also Matt your use of MvC2 music is *chef's kiss*. Love it.
I loved Killer instinct and there was not many games that were influenced by that....that is why i got clayfighters 63/3rd
Same! I feel that game is very misunderstood, it was supposed to be silly and the gameplay was actually really descent.
I own me a clayfighters tournament addition. It’s good and fun. Me and my brothers played this game a lot. Thanks for covering it
Awesome work as always, Mr. McMuscles! I hope one day someone can bring this series back, it has so much potential! But I can understand it would take so much time, patience, and money for what could be such a risk... but damn it, it would be so awesome!
#ReleaseTheSculptorsCut...Again
First time i have seen Dan Castellaneta mentioned without adding that he is the voice of Homer Simpsons
Its sad what happened to Interplay. They were a great company. I would love to see a Wha Happun on the Scary Movie franchise.
If you want to have your opinion ruined about them, check out how they treated the Fallout devs/series. Interplay was really an awful company.
@@PhyreI3ird You gotta be kidding me, Man.😠😟
Wtf?
Also! Recently Interplay released two volumes of collection's of their old games onto the "Evercade" it's a cartridge based handheld system and it even has games on it from Namco.
Only thing I know about clayfigther is that there was supposed to be a ds game and they had earthworm Jim
There's a tineline where there's a full version of the intro... I need to get to that timeline
God I hope Clayfighter makes a real comeback, someday 😫🙏🏻
The whole 2015 remake promise and mention being developed by "someone that doesn't exist" is very shady, or gives the impression that it's all now managed by one person.
I can only guess this was a bid to try and increase value in their company but why they can't just say "The series will not be returning in the forseeable future" Instead of a empty promise?
Because that would be less scummier.
What Happened?: Imagi Animation Studios along with Astro Boy. I loved your series.
For a suggestion, I'd love to see a "what happened" on earthbounr's poor sales in america, though I doubt it's TOO interesting a story admittedly
@@MegaKH2fan Agreed
T-hoppy was my boy and blob was the cheapest bastard ever.
I was having this feeling of deja vu, as if this game was covered already.
But then I remembered it was pan pizza the one that made a video on it.
“Clay Fighter! Clay-Clay Fighter! You can fight them, if you dare! Smash then, squish them, they don’t care!”
Love the LL Cool J “Phenomenon” reference lol
Oh my god hell YES I've been hoping Clay Fighter would be covered by someone who goes quite in-depth like you,Matt.
Hopefully this means interplay will do something with the IP, but that's coping.
thanks, matt, I just got that clayfighter theme song out of my head after 25 years and now it's back
"I'm a human bean!" * turns into a bean *
matt is pumping these out really quickly
"Snowballing into our faces" hahahah go urban dictionary what Snowballing means🤣🤣🤣
@@Gatorade69 ok why dont you watch the movie "clerks" that'll explain it too
Great episode 👍
Clayfighter should get an HD game with all the characters and stages from the previous games.
@@Gatorade69 You could do it with 3D animation and make it look like claymation
@@stevedoidoultimate4815 Even so, i hope this topic gets touched more often
Favorite series on youtube bar none
I was unreasonably attached to Clayfighter 63 1/3 as a little kid, and I've longed to see this franchise return for almost multiple decades now. I would even compromise for 3D animation that just *looks like* clay, but of course, digitized clay models would be the bee's knees. The FGC has changed a lot - hell, it's even recognized with a cute acronym - so I think it's a good time for Clayfighter to return to roast it all. Only, I hope they can make it both funny *and* a good, balanced, competitive fighter this time.
17:45 "I've never seen a game try to revive itself and fail so spectacularly". Well then you've never heard of SEGA!
I used to play the 2 SNES games way back when. Never could figure out how to pull Blue Suede Goo's "Don't Be Cruel" multiple projectile without any internet help. I looked it up and its hcf,b+K. What the fuck, interplay?
