- We'll continue our tour of the fabulous 1949 Oldsmobile 'Rocket' Futuramic. Oldsmobile was the innovative manufacturer at General Motors in the early postwar years.
I have unearthed a couple of cool images from my vintage photo collection: Snapshots from the 1950's which show everyday life of people, families and kids and their Olds 1949 cars.
If you're a fan of vintage cars, you'll love this video! - If you haven't checked out part I, make sure to do so.

I am surprised nobody has pointed this out so far: further to the anomaly mentioned by the author at the beginning, there is not only one 1950 Olds, but 2 1948 Olds 98's sprinkled in the video. The first is at 1:56 and the 2nd appears at 3:58. The rear window had a central divider on the 1948 98 sedan, but was absent on the 1950 98 (as well as 88). So not only were these not 1949's, they weren't 88's.
I meant to say "absent on the 1949 98 (as well as 88)" Sorry for the confusion.
The 1950's were first year using a one piece windshield so the Olds shown is either a 1949 with 1950 hood or a very early 1950 using left-over 1949 assembly line windshields. We use to find the one piece windshields in the bone yards and for that new style look, install them into Pontiacs and Chevys which always used a 2-piece.
My Dad Worked For Olds For 30 Years From 1949 on Till Retirement From The Main Plant In Lansing Mich.
The 1949 Oldsmobile V8 changed the entire automotive industry back then it was introduced and was GM performance division all the way from 1949-57
Damn! That Was VERY GOOD! ManyThanx From So Cal!
The 1949 88 is the car that made me an Olds fan. BTW, the one that I was able to drive belonged to my maternal grandmother, who was a lady street racer!!!!!!
Fabulous video for an even more fabulous automobile!
Good choice of music.
The band 'Unicorn Heads'. I've chosen them because they match to the 1950's content. Glad, you like the choice.
I had an uncle who sold Oldsmobiles in the fifties. We would ride around in demo cars that had the door panels covered with brown paper.
The '50 is certainly the one with a one piece windshield
Not so sure about the ‘50…I think the 50’s Olds had a single piece windshield. We had a 4 Dr.
