Tour Du Mont Blanc Day 8 (TMB) Champex to Fenetre d’ Arpette Variant

Day 8 of TMB. We took an alternative route, which we expected to be much harder than the main route. And oh boy it was. Early morning already started with ascend that was never ending. Altitude was increasing, fauna was changing from forest, to bushes, grass and then just plain rocks. More than 1200m in elevation gain wasn’t easy, especially in scorching heat. Near the top, our hike transformed into a rock climbing with both feet and arms, as hiking sticks were not needed anymore. Large boulders were all over the place and we had to cross them in order to reach the top. And we did. The rewards were amazing. Being a few hundred meters away from the glacier and overlooking the whole mountain area, was worth every drop of sweat that we dripped along the way. The hike down wasn’t easy as well. Descending more than a kilometre in altitude is a knee killer, and we can definitely feel it. Last night in Switzerland and we finally got cheese fondue for dinner (also pork and rice 😆). Into the new adventure tomorrow!
