Who decided that the costumes should reflect the Regency era - approximately from the beginning of the 19th century till 1820? The opera is set in the early 20th century and the whole point of the plot is to ridicule the aesthetic movement influenced by such people as Oscar Wilde. Setting it in the Regency era totally misfires and makes it 'out of joint' (to quote Hamlet!)
