    When there is no common space/living room, that means it's only a one bedroom and one of the rooms is used for a living room. What's with these landlords saying here's a two bedroom, but no living space?

    Yikes, all those apartments and not a one was appealing despite some fancy upgrades. That last one was just pathetic. Needs a gut rehab, and some average human proportions between rooms. One foot clearance?? How does that even meet fire safety codes?

    Why do so many of these apartments think that people NEED a wine fridge? Is everyone in NYC supposed to drink wine? You can use those for non-wines, right? Like, could I fit cans of Yoohoo in there or something?

    I made a terrible mistake when I rented my Queens apartment back in July. When I first looked at the apartment I made sure it had a sink sprayer and medicine cabinet. The place checked all the boxes so my fiance and I decided this was the one so we signed the lease. The day came to move in and one of the first things I did was run to the sink to check the sprayer and to my utter dismay, it was clogged and didn't work! I still have yet to replace it and let me tell you it is a huge inconvenience! I think I am finally going to bite the bullet and fix it this weekend. Cash, thank you for really showcasing how important it is to have a sink sprayer, especially when you don't have a dishwasher in your house!

    • @SohiHien
      @SohiHien 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I never use my sink sprayer and wash all my dishes. Honestly don't see much use for it, it is just as easy to rotate the tap and wipe with a sponge/cloth if needed.

    • @BewareTheLilyOfTheValley
      @BewareTheLilyOfTheValley 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@SohiHien Or fill a cup up with water and pour it over the sides of the sink. Sprayers might be easy to use but I always think to myself that these fancy additions haven't always existed and yet we made do before them. Now complaining about the lack of a washer or dryer, that I understand because getting around that is much more difficult and time-consuming.

      I watch people who live in Japan and make small kitchens like that work, so I can handle a small kitchen. But the old and dirty bathrooms are where I say nope. My sister was able to fit her queen-size bed AND a couch in her bedroom, her roommate could do the same. The kitchen was opposite the bathroom down a little hallway, and from what I remember had a decent amount of counter space and full-size appliances. Watching quite a few of these tours, I’m realizing lots of natural light, and decent sized bedrooms and bathroom are a +.
    The 2nd place was nice but bedrooms a little small..
    Thanks for the tour! 👍🏼

    I like the second unit the best, with the outdoor space, although I'd be afraid I'd take a misstep and fall to my death on that spiral staircase LOL. I could also make the third unit work, especially for that price. That last unit is a definite no, with its awkward layout. I doubt I'd even be able to fit in that kitchen haha 😆

    the second apartment would be great for a single or couple. the middle room could be a dining area/office and allow for extra storage and a rolling island for the kitchen. The front room with a view would be a great living room. The back bedroom for sleeping

      Apartment dweller from another state: In our last place, we replaced the supplied cheap incandescent bulbs with much pricier LED bulbs when the old ones burned out. Considering management dragged their feet for over 2 years on replacing the failing florescent light in the kitchen (the only interior lighting they were responsible for), we didn't feel we owed them the goodwill of leaving our LED bulbs behind.
      As a general rule, "taking the bulb with me" is exiting tenant code for "management owes me that much." It's a sign you need to look into reviews of the building, because there are probably maintenance and management complaints with some merit behind them.

    Seriously getting addicted to these videos, but for some reason when I see these NYC apartments, I just start to feel really strong anxiety. They all look so depressing for the price! (I used to live in NYC on John Street way back when, and though my tiny room was more modern and thus felt a bit more comfortable, we had zero natural light as the only window faced the brick wall of the next building. Somehow just really depressing...)

    It's so depressing to see what passes as apartments in NYC these days. If there's no kitchen and bathroom, they're just rooms.
    I haven't been back there since I went to London in 2006.
    I thought my first London flat was tiny because I had to share a kitchen and washer/dryer with the other flats. However, at least I had room in my own space for a queen bed, a desk, a TV cabinet, a loveseat and my en suite bathroom. That space would probably cost me $1500 in NYC now.

  • @TheBinsQueen

    every time i see those tiny bathroom sinks i can't help but see a dentist office spit sink ...lol , and what those spiral staircases need is a fire pole next to it to get back down and add dumbwaiter that can move things up and down, because there is no way to carry anything safely and go up those stairs. that apt with the 1'4" "slot" kitchen entry must be for people that will be only reheating restaurant leftovers or getting deliveries. and last comment, that shelf with the holes is most like to access the outlets near the floor like for a clock or radio or recharging gadgets

    Hi Cash. We have a spartan kitchen, you cannot open the fridge and the oven at the same time. And there is only space for one to stand in the 3 ft square area between the two, and we made it work. I can cook an entire holiday dinner in my little kitchen. It's all about stacking !!! It just depends on how the space is laid out.

And $5800! 2) Smaller, but that roof deck would be awesome going into autumn! 3) NY hustle- gotta love it! Props to Trevor! 4) That 3rd one is a 1 bedroom, no matter what the landlord says! But if you are just starting out, and spend no time in the place, two people hustle and make it work.

    If I were in my twenties, had tons of money and moving to NYC, I would be torn between the first 2 apartments. The second one is more bang for bucks, but the kitchen is a mite too small. Now, that last apartment with a very tight squeeze between the refrigerator and the entryway - I'm floored. And the bathroom ... oh, my God. That is a fire hazard waiting to happen - how can the landlord get away with that???
