- One of the most common issues pet parents have is to solve separation anxiety with dogs.
What is separation anxiety especially when dealing with pets and how can it be addressed?
In this Dog Nation Episode, I help a shepherd mix dog, Roxie, suffering from severe separation anxiety.
Roxie freaks out whenever her owner leaves.
Remember it is exercise, discipline, and affection in that order! Be calm and confident when you are leading your dog and giving them commands.

That's why I always think it is not a bad thing that dogs live so much shorter than humans. Better that we have to deal with losing them, than that they have to deal with losing us.

Helping his Godmother's dog helped him. Now he'll be able to use what he has learned in other areas of his life as well as know moving on is not forgetting or dishonoring her. He's carrying the sorrow too. Together they'll get to the place of being able to think of her with joy and far less pain.

Yes.... training my dog did make me a better leader ...a happier person as l had to be aware of my emotions to be the pack leader my dog deserved.
It’s heart breaking to see Arion do those emotional pauses. I’m sure he and the dog are there for each other now more than ever.

This hit hard, and made so much sense. Using alot of the things in the vid. On june 22 my mom died.. She was my dog's safe spot. Always in between her legs or lying behind her on the couch etc etc. since she passed away my dog is always crying, barking, whining etc. when ether me or my dad leave the room/house. I’m so sorry for your loss💔 I inherited my sister’s doggie and I know she’s doing thru real separation anxiety bc my sister treated her like her own child. It’s heartbreaking bc I miss her too 😭💔I hope I’m able to honor my sister and give her fur baby the same amount of love she gave her. 💕

This was exactly what I needed to learn Cesar. My son passed away recently and his beautiful German shepherd has been so clingy it’s unsustainable. I will be following your sage direction as of today 🙌🏻🧡
So very sad for the poor Dog losing her loving Mum but what a caring and loving young man who is totally into making the rest of Roxy's life as lovely as he can.He is a very loving and respectful Dad to Roxy- his Godmother would be beaming with pride and love.
Cesar is the best! I used his info to train my wild dingo mix I trapped in St Martin and she and I enjoyed 14 fabulous years together! She kicked tick fever and heartworm, etc and became the canine belle of Vancouver WA, going everywhere with me: stores, restaurants, banks, etc. She won many many hearts and many cried when she made her transition. As one banker said through her tears: "She made a difference in peoples' lives!" Thank you Cesar, for the difference you have made in so very many lives!

How did you get a dingo mix in Canada? Weren't you afraid of the wild of the dingo around little kids?
@@meeeka Vancouver, WA USA, but I trapped her on the island of St Martin. And contrary to the myth of the dingo eating babies, she Loved babies and children, and could always tell when someone was in emotional pain and would sidle up to them and lend comfort. She was incredibly intuitive and brilliant; my true soul mate.

My pup has a bit of separation anxiety. He chewed his crate all the time, so we just let him rome upstairs. We have a gate for the stairs he's learned to open. I had to ratchet strap is closed because that's the only way he won't open it. He would whine and search around upstairs for me. Cry for my parents downstairs until they woke up etc. He settles now after 5 or less minutes, but I still use the ratchet in case (our cats are downstairs and other rooms etc). He's slowing learning to be by himself and I'm not entirely sure why or how he's learnt it

This is what happens when I start watching Cesar...This is my 5th video and I have written notes the entire time!!! His application, and innate wisdom is so simple that it seems complex and most often applies to humans as parents ,or dog owners, My children are grown and I have NO DOG and still......

All well and good, but he inherited the dog and the problem manifested itself. Huge kudos to Arion for getting help. This was wonderful to watch. They have had time to learn one another, which also needs taking into account if a ‘new to you dog’ exhibits these behaviours. Bear all Caesar says in mind and apply the same strategies.

I'm just so proud of Roxie!! It's tough to loose a loved one and she is even more confused by it than a human would be. What a good girl though and she's lucky to have her God brother as her new owner. You can tell he loves her so much
I also took on an older dog from a woman who passed away. I didn't know her but her children didn't want him. I felt and feel so sorry for him (he's also nearly blind) that I have gone totally soft on him. Luckily he's only very small but he kinda has started running my life now. I have learned a lot from this video. 💚

I’m a cat lady and my bf has a dog who makes me VERY overwhelmed. i cant kiss or hug him when his dog is around because he gets agitated and he’s super hyperactive when we’re at his place. when we leave he barks until we come back. he works very long hours and if i check on him he basically “attacks” me with love. i think his dog may have S.A. this video is veryyyy helpful because i love his dog! he just does a lot
Looks like it might be up to you to use some of Cesar's advise in this video. Don't feel overwhelmed when visiting your boyfriend. Keep the leadership energy. It looks like your bf hasn't had the time and hasn't watched Cesar... You can do it! 🐾

You might want to talk to the bf about placing him in another home. It's not healthy for a dog be alone for hours and hours on end. He won't stop the behavior because the excitement is so strong when he finally sees a person. Just my two cents
@@Balaban78 Techniques aside, I also can't understand why people love dogs and decide to get just one dog and leave the dog at home all day when they go to work and expect the dog to feel good being alone having no friends, no entertainment, no communication, etc. Yet these people call themselves dog lovers. To me that is another form of abuse.
Sounds like the dog needs exercise and stimulation more than anything.

I can totally relate to this guy’s story and issues with Roxie. I rescued a male Miniature Schnauzer whose owner had passed away from cancer 11 months before I got him. He immediately bonded with me and I with him as I had lost my little schnauzer to cancer a month before I adopted him. He was well trained by his previous owner, and fit right in with our family but he was definitely attached to me. He never had severe separation issues but he did have them and he definitely wanted to be with me more than anyone else in our family. I am sure I was more like this young man in my approach with Bentley and I can see what I should have been doing. I only got to have him for 6 years before he got a bladder tumor and had to be put down. I was so saddened by my loss.

I hope it worked out well for both of them. The young man seemed to quickly understand the energy concept. I have been told that this is often normal behaviour of a dog that suddenly finds himself with a new owner. They are so afraid that this new human being will leave them too, so they follow them around wherever they go. And all it took to fix it, was to give the dog a couple of new rules to follow, with a calm and assertive energy.

Awwwwww, WAY TO GO OWNER & ROXY! When I lost my Mom, my energy was obviously one of great grief, and that grief was tangible for my dogs. I too had to realize that they were reacting to my true energy. I think a lot of times humans in society are taught to hide and straight up lie about how we TRULY feel. Our fur babies can see right through our bullshit, into the REAL US. Animals have the amazing ability to accept and move on. You still honor your loved one, you can even cry, but you let your fur babies KNOW that you aren't giving up on Life. Mr. Milan, YOU ARE AWESOME! 🥰🥰🥰🥰

Thank you so much for this Cesar! I have this exact situation. I recently started fostering an abused mother pit mix. She is extremely sensitive and had no trust for people almost completely shut down. I finally gained her trust and then she became my shadow and would have extreme anxiety when she didn't see me.
