Honestly, 2 & 3 right now. I've only been doing music production and beat making for about a year, maybe a little less. At this point, I'm still trying to figure out if my "product" is trash or not. I have a great support system at home, but its the strangers I really need input from. Actual critique of my works, not validation or the standard "🔥🔥" or "yo thats lit". Don't get me wrong, still puts a smile on my face to see those types of comments about my music, and i try and make sure to reply to as many if not all as possible. Do you have a strategy to push for something like getting someone to critique, thats not dm'ing a stranger and basically begging for it? Or, is that something that would come with more exposure? Thank you Adam for providing such valuable insights and advice. So much food for thought.
Just started out as a musician and realised I need to work a lot more on my brand and image. As an introvert it is hard to post stuff about yourself but I see how important it really is. Great vid as always!
To be honest, I've always evaded the center of attention in my life - and now I'm "supposed" to be in the middle of attention? That is very contradictory, so I wonder how things will turn out in my case.
Even if I'm not a new artist I would like to see that video! Repetition is never wrong and we are lots of old artists who still haven't made it outside of the home studio. I have dedicated 2019 to be the year when I follow the tips from TH-cam and try to raise my following. It goes slowly forward...
Make great content, be polite and know who and where you are in the business. Don't act like you are some big cannon if your music is recorded with a calculator and your videos are made for like 100 dollars. Although it is completely acceptable to cheat your potential listeners to believe, that you are a much larger name than in reality. When we are playing live shows we always try to be as fast as possible when getting on and off stage and if we only have 5 minutes of soundcheck, because the band before, took all our time, then we will only use 5 minutes. (and that's why you invest in your own soundguy... or girl.) Save all your money and use them right... And make people wear your T-shirt!
This video really got the wheels turning in my mind. I realized that it doesn’t matter so much what you do as it does that you do it consistently. One of my favorite jazz pianists, Bill Evans, always sounded like Bill Evans. He wasn’t trying to play rock n roll. And The Doors weren’t trying to be The Beatles. They had a razor sharp artistic vision and they always sounded like The Doors. This video made a huge light bulb go off in my head.
Makes me feel like I’m going in the right way I have kind of started and learned that I’ve had to have all this by myself but I’ve never really fully understood it until this so thank you very much I can’t wait to grow more 🙏🏼💯
I think I know who I am as a brand. I’m a regular kid who is bedroom producer and I want my brand to be perceived as real, not fake. I guess I’m unsure of who I want to be targeting.. thanks so much for this video Adam I honestly really appreciate you and I hope you can feel that little bit better knowing that your videos are helping yet another inspiring producer like myself!
Did that work out for you by any chance? Been pushing for that “real and authentic” image myself and nobody in my area seems to care unless you’re throwing money about and rapping about fake shit
Another great one. The pillar I struggle with most is self branding. I find myself inspired by a lot of different things and as an individual I'm pretty diverse. Selling that to an audience however is challenging. So Number 1 is for me!
What's really interesting to me is on videos that say "How to write a better chorus" "how to make better melodies" "how to be a better songwriter/producer" those videos get MILLIONS of views. But videos about marketing yourself and building ur brand and self image? Most I've seen have around 5k-50k at most. Really starts to make me understand the whole 1% make it thing.
I'm very grateful for this post. honestly i never realized how important this is until now, i'm about to start off with the three steps before i carry on with my career. thank you very much.
For anyone else who was just as confused as I was about what a "brand" is, I realized it's just the perception or 'image' people have of you. What they see you as. Who they see you as. It used to be called 'image' but it's called now 'brand'. Brand in latin means to burn. The idea is that you 'brand' your 'image' into the minds of people. Brand strength is determined by how appealing but different your "brand/image" is. Who you're compared to and how you stand out. Phew I was confused for soooo long. Hopefully this helps someone else out there! good luck on your musical adventures! PS... thanks Adam Ivy for the video! Your triangle concept was great help!
As someone who makes content myself the first thing I noticed is the effort he put in to pull up plugins on logic pro so the background would be more interesting. It's the little things that make a video great :) good job adam
Working on developing all 3 points of the trifecta currently with my band. Building confidence in who we are and building our story, creating a stronger presence to represent ourselves to others, and we’re in the process of figuring out who our target audience is and what they’re into.
I'm glad you mentioned talking fast. I often speed up videos to get the most out of them in the shortest time possible. Before you mentioned it, I had to check if my playback speed was faster than normal! Great pace for my listening. Thanks!
I love your comments section more than your videos :D The positivity in here is high.... just people cheering others and telling their experience... Why can't people be like this everywhere
I have all 3 but on a completely baby stage, need to work and develop them properly, and thanks to Adam I will and it will be awesome. Adam always giving the best advice for us to reach those dreams we have :)
New viewer here and i just wanted to say you got some good content. Just wrote this formula on a piece of paper and im going to start figuring these things out. I've been making good music for a long time, good content, just no solid brand. I know what i represent thats why the content is always real but i feel like my fans and new viewers just don't truly understand what my brand represents. Time for a step in the right direction.
You're Adan in 2019 we musicians/ artist/ producer/ dj cant just be artist now.... we need to be CEO's, Marketers, Promoters and then some... Thanks for sharing
I felt like I discovered fire after watching this video. Absolutely mind blowing . Adam, I make my own music, but I am not that good when it comes to mixing and mastering. Should I still try to brand myself ?
ADAM bro I owe u alot dude. U changed my whole brand bro. People already hate it I'm a recovering addict who has overcome Soo much & fortunately stayed humble. My music is the best way to Kno me💯 but I still try to verbally paint picture
Great observation about not appealing to everyone. I recently realized that social media forums for/about the type of music I make...discussing musicians who _aren't_ me with fellow musicians and fans...is actually a great way to build non-business relationships with like-minded individuals. Then, when the time comes to release my album, they will be more likely to check it out because they've come to know me as a _person._ Personality and familiarity (it turns out) are a huge part of branding...often even more than the product itself. Completely by accident, I realized that Point 2 and Point 3 can be accomplished in social media forums, allowing me to help others get to know _me_ in a comfortable environment _and_ allowing me to get to know _them_ at the same time.
my band Cupid and the Cowboy we are a duo with two singers and two genres Pop and Country or Cowpop. we have the first two elements but not so much on number 3 but I really like the vid. what we don’t have is a following it seems you need to have a following first which seems to be the hardest thing to get.

Great stuff as always Adam, you’ve taught me so much in a short time and I’m already seeing the pay off when these strategies and the philosophy behind them are implemented! Thanks man top marks💯
Brother thanks for your advice. It is helping me cz am an upcoming artist. Few professional musicians are doing this. Pls keep on! You have changed my life.
Hey Adam, what you said at 4:30 is a good point and one that I try to stick to in my videos. Problem is, many people criticize that I talk too fast 😅. How do you advertise yourself in the middle, can you do that at all or its just best to pick something super detailed for detailed target and go with it? I have a feeling that, whenever something is not super targeted, its just overwhelming and could be even frustrating for a creator. Usually today's producers/composers write music of many styles,, commercials, pop, games, tv, movies etc...this is pretty wide, so i wonder how they advertise themselves to be successful. Do they advertise every genre separately? Thx!
"Consistency leads to trust"💯💯 Great video man! It's like you touched on, yes it's common sense, but it's such a needed reminder for so many. Common sense = simplify, and within the simplicity do we find that natural flow to life and what we love to do. Over complicating shit only leads to a hole in the wall lol.
I got identity, targeting and connecting. Knowing who you are establishes a base, targeting ppl who would have similar interests and support you. Connecting with ppl on a consistent bases because getting fans is 1 thing keeping them is another. Knowing what crowd you want to entertain and focusing your creativity around that is important. Which in a certain aspect kinda sucks because much of the music I create actually depends on my mood, I like 2 work on instrumentals with different vibes and bpm and so forth. Im not sure how to take that and incorporate that into the triangle. But to answer your question I need work on all 3.
It's so easy to second guess yourself all time, whether you think your music is not good enough for release yet (never ends) or really trying to understand what other people may see in your material. Nobody knows you better than yourself & trying to see yourself from a strangers perspective can be challenging. The best thing you can do is to simply show them what you can do, strengthen your brand! Nobody has to know that you still play with barbie dolls.
What do you recommend for someone that does multiple things? Like I stream, I make EDM, and I draw. I literally have instagrams for each thing I do, But idk wether to delete them all and just post it all on my personal or just post on each of them individually so I won’t bother people that don’t follow my other accounts. I usually post mostly EDM on my personal and a bit of everything else on my personal sometimes.
Great video as always, you have helped me understand so much i the music industry within weeks. I'm struggle what name my brand should have and etc.. And i'm about to start a band/projekt so thats another thing than my personal brand. You are awesome Adam, so motivational and a true inspiration!
You should make a video on how much a artist should out source or try to make on their own. For example should we out source most of artwork from a gfx artist or learn to make it ourselves same for video editing and even shooting the music video itself and the same goes for beats too lease and buy them or make our own
When it comes to building your brand what is the one thing you find the most difficult to do? Let me know as a reply to this comment.
AdamIvy the most difficult thing for my brand is creating a niche
See honestly all of them are difficult...but obviously we road is not easy 😋😋
Honestly, 2 & 3 right now. I've only been doing music production and beat making for about a year, maybe a little less. At this point, I'm still trying to figure out if my "product" is trash or not. Sticking to one genre of music to create. Most top producers have a genre they're known for.
Aiming for the right audience I GUESS.because i dont make music that is restricted to one style, its more experimental.
Went to Settings to set my playback speed back, but realised it was already at normal lol
I turned mine to 75% 😂 it sure helps soak in the info
😂
Lmao
🤣
Rap god vibes
Δ Top: Who you are as a brand

Hey man do you make music what’s your mission statement?
True story!
Just started out as a musician and realised I need to work a lot more on my brand and image.

We are in the same boat. Sometimes I feel akward when I see myself in the internet especially I don't really know who's got to comment in my platform.
Me too. I hate posting stuff about myself. and I hate people. LOL
It’s hard but it gets easier and feels more natural the more you do it.
To be honest, I've always evaded the center of attention in my life - and now I'm "supposed" to be in the middle of attention? That is very contradictory, so I wonder how things will turn out in my case.
@@GusWMusic i can relate :(
do a video on how to be taken more seriously as a new artist please

I have dedicated 2019 to be the year when I follow the tips from TH-cam and try to raise my following. It goes slowly forward...
Make serious music

one thing that can help is giving to your local community deposit before you can withdraw.

When you said you can slow me down I turned playback to 75% and it helps so much
I usually put videos at 1.5x speed but I don't have to do that with your videos. It's refreshing. Lol

Of course. We all start somewhere. Just because you're not the best now doesn't mean you won't be in the future.
Thank you for the reply Adam. Means a lot
How do you find out who your audience is can we get a break down on that please and thanks for this

You should make a video on how much a artist should out source or try to make on their own. For example should we out source most of artwork from a gfx artist or learn to make it ourselves same for video editing and even shooting the music video itself and the same goes for beats too lease and buy them or make our own
