I am a manufacturing engineer, and I have been studying historical manufacturing for almost 2 decades now. I would like to know if you know the exact location of the original kettle hat?
I see a line down the middle on the front picture of the original hat that could be indicative of higher carbon steel, or more highly contaminated steel.
I have long suspected that some of the original craftsmen dealing with plate may have taken two sheets of steel and ground up cast iron or chunks from a bloom, placed the chunks/grindings at the weld site to lower the temperature of fusion.
And this helm looks like it was treated in just that manner, certainly this could change a small portion of our history books if it is true!
I would greatly appreciate knowing whom has it!

That is not a kettle hat, at this period of the late 13th, 14th, and 15th century, it was called the Cabasset. This comes from the Castilian or Catalan word "Capacete". It is best to remember the fact that the name "Kettle Hat", is a contemporary name for that helmet.

really more comfortable ( so long the officers it not seeing :-)
    i have also another question
What swords and armor using the Swabian ( Swiss) knights in the battle of civitate 1053 , against the Normans?
William of Apulia says this over the Swabians : " There were proud people of great courage, but not versed in horsemanship, who fought rather with the sword than with the lance. Since they could not control the movements of their horses with their hands they were unable to inflict serious injuries with the lance; however they excelled with the sword. These swords were very long and keen, and they were often capable of cutting someone vertically in two! They preferred to dismount and take guard on foot, and they chose rather to die than to turn tail. Such was their bravery that they were far more formidable like this than when riding on horseback

Kettle helmets are still being used to this day though being phased out of almost all militaries and called something different. There's a reason they have lasted the test of time, versatile, doesn't impede hearing but still protects the ole noggin, brim provides some shade so perfect for desert warfare, comfortable to wear, doesn't impede breathing or vision... A salat or other visored helmet has a huge drawback, incredibly limited visibility and hard to breathe in. All that extra protection wont help if you take hits from a Warhammer to the head because you didn't see it coming, and having less fresh air means you will have less stamina which will make you more vulnerable the longer the fight lasts. In a 1V1 fight that's not a huge issue but in thick of the melee with thousands of combatants... I would choose a kettle first.
Glad to see you got one for your harness.

When it comes to the original, it seems like someone was torn between the functionality of a kettle hat and the fashionable panache of a sallet for their personal retinue, and that is what the armourer came up with. Stranger things would have happened (Lantern Shields for one examle)
    Certainly looks good.

There's a logging supply store here that sells broadbrimed kettle hats for logging and wildland firefighting; basically a hardhat of metal instead of plastic. Though a lot of the modern ones are made of composites, most of the metal ones don't look very out of place at the Ren Fair when the paint is removed.
Edit: By the way, one of the best things about this style of hat is found in the name - there were many mornings when one of the guys on my crew would use his to boil up some water for coffee. True then as it is now.

Do you realise that "noble ones" translates to "number ones" in auto captions? This means something a lot different in many English speaking regions. LOL.

So, auto caption hears it, too. It's all ones and zeroes anyway.

Oddly enough i can see how the helm The Metatron has could evolve into the Marion, it has the beginnings of the pointed peak at the front and the start of the stereotypical crest of the Marion.

Think of how far we’ve come in just a few centuries. They used to use this sort of stuff hundreds of years ago, which was before gunpowder was made, crude oil was discovered and engines were made, and before companies started making tanks, humvees and cargo trucks, as well as planes that could be used to drop explosives on enemy camps and compounds.

Hey, Metatron, MAN AT ARMS: REFORGED released a video of them making Alucard's sword, which they classify as an estoc. But they forge it with a cutting edge. Isn't an estoc supposed to be a sword for thrusts and not supposed to have an edge for cutting? I genuinely would like to know, because I've seen and heard different and conflicting information on this. Cheers!

how much would a whole set of armour cost like? Like if you take the cheapest but still reasonably good quality stuff? Whole set of armour-> idk i gues a helmet, chaimlail, gloves, brestplait, or tunic, stuff for the legs and feet. Hopefully this question isn't that dumb

How does "gauge" even work in relation to thickness of metal? I know that in firearms(mostly shotguns) gauge means the number of lead balls with the diameter of the bore that would be needed to add up to one pound. So a 12-gauge bore is wide enough for a lead ball weighing one 12th of a pound. A 28-gauge bore is the size of a lead ball weighing one 28th of a pound, smaller than a 12g. A 1-gauge bore would be enough to shoot a lead ball weighing a full pound (a diameter of about 40+mm, I think).
So how does this relate to metal thickness measurement? I think a 12-gauge shotshell has a diameter of about 18mm, so wouldn't 14-gauge be at least 15mm or something like that? As if gauge wasn't a headache-inducing measurement enough, now I'm even more confused.

If you want to use a helmet for actual combat, I advice an inner helmet like in a modern one. Merely lining/padding will give you lots of concussions when hit, and you will end up sounding like an old boxer.

I'd go out on a limb here and say by the early 14th century most knights would have a kettle hat simply becasue it fills a role in being quite protective, but highly wearable and not constrictive to your senses that a open face bascinet/sallet or barbute does not. I mean what is the price of a helmet to a knight? And its going to be so much more comfortable as an every day wear campaign helmet.
