I’ve spent most of my 45 years on a computer, but for whatever reason this recording and daw shit mixes up my brain. I just want the modular and drum machines recorded. This video helped so much, thank you!

@@MordioMusic ahh I’m glad I commented then... I’ve been into eurorack about 6 years now. I feel like I’ve gotten a pretty good handle on that part, it’s just that until now I’ve never recorded anything. I build up a patch and enjoy the process very much, but it’s not something I’ve ever made concrete by recording. We’ll see where it goes. So many other explanations on recording seem to be specific to some certain piece of hardware, like an es9 or whatever. I just want to straight up record all 8 of the channels of my interface... at that point I can watch arrangement and mixing tutorials haha.

There is to many people, they make music for 5min and call them producer or let produce for them. If you will release music to the internet after 6 years and show that you do it all with the modular, you will see how much you hive to some people and that give sense to music.
I always believe i make music just for my self but that was not true.
If you record the stems, you can after make the producer in you of and think like an engineer to mix them. Make it loud and done ✅
Mix and mastering cones with time!

Have kind of a similar workflow for quite some time now. But I use 7 Befaco Stereo Strips instead of an external mixer & feed them into the ES-9 from expert sleepers.
Was also thinking about using an external console, but since I‘m working toward beeing a live-act it would be not so easy to carry all that stuff around.

sound like a good workflow to this video is old there are better ways now, i will update here if i found my new workflow soon. HAHA happy i make you laugh about this.
Thanks for this. I also moved fx and mixing out of the rack and it was a great move for me. I go from an ES-9 to an iPad with mixing and FX via AUM and AUV3. There's a little bit of menu diving but the touch screen makes it close to the feel of working with an actual module. Once I got over the idea that *everything* had to be a physical module, my productivity increased significantly.

You need a lot of money, if all have to be analog and in the rack. This sounds like a good way to come faster to the fun part.

I don't recommend recording with monitoring set to IN. You will get latency. You ideally want to direct monitor through your audio interface and set monitor to OFF in Ableton for zero latency. There's alot of good videos on TH-cam about this (check out: Seed to Stage).
Thanks for the point, but in that case it is great to have all the effects on every channel. Totally because i don’t play notes or something, i just interact with filter and envelopes. Also the pc i use is ok with low sample rates like 128.
I'd highly recommend using the external instrument device if you don't wanna get into latency hell! Also enable low latency monitoring inside Live. Another downside to what is shown here is that passive attenuators for Eurorack- to line-levels is really not ideal. They won't be as hot anymore (though most interfaces and mixers I've worked with have enough headroom to receive hot modula-levels just fine) but the impedance will not be corrected and the sound quality will degrade. Have a look at the Rides In The Storm modular to line level converter module. Great stuff for the price!
i think ir rly dosnt matter becasue you will never actually listen to ableton master out with setup like this i mean you dont realy have to but you can ofc :D technically you could just listen to your hardware mix bus for everything and daw just record whatever you do, also ableton dosnt eaven have to play i can be completly stopped
That is fine if you don't care about EQing your monitoring in ableton. also there are benefits to monitoring everything through ableton. also not all sound interfaces offer enough flexibility for direct monitoring to be practible. I think having a little bit of delay doesn't bother me at all.

Thanks for sharing! I’d love to remove my computer from my setup one day, but this shows how useful a DAW can be without having to get lost in menu diving. You still doing it this way?

Very good tips, what is clocking ur eurorack and how do u get all chanels recording perfectly on the grid? Or do u micro timing things after the recordings?

I sync the eurorack with the aturia keystep, I also did a video on that.
Try to put the sample rate lower or just drag the recording after to the perfect one (micro timing things ;).
i do same infact but with daw only eurorack comming soon, but my workflow is same i record in seqences vst and after find loops i want to use👍
I think soon I will have a new video how I do it now, im on something right now to record without latency and pc effects.

Mach ich genau so! Effekte und EQing im eurorack ist einfach zu teuer. Ich werde mir ein Happy Nerding FX Aid XL kaufen und dann ist auch gut mit Effekten. Das kann eh fast alles. Genau so wie cv recording, das mache ich auch lieber in Ableton Live. Mit dem CV utility tool von m4l kann man knob automation aufnehmen und über mein Expert Sleepers ES-3/6/7 kann ichs dann ins eurorack rausspielen. Easy 8 spur modulations recording, wenn ich das in eurorack bezahlen müsste kostet es locker paar tausend ^^.
Was ich empfehlen kann ist der 1-knob-EQ namens "3xEQ" von ST Modular. So ein bisschen EQing im Rack ist schon nice to have, kostet auch nicht viel. Der macht halt vor allem Sinn bevor man in seine Signalketten geht. Ist mehr so ein Klangformer als ein surgical EQ. Damit kann man die Frequenzbänder schon mal schön unter den Stimmen aufteilen.
War ein Teil von dem Beat den du da einspielst von SNTS inspiriert? Das klingt total so, finde ich mega nice den Sound. Könnte jetzt kaum beschreiben welchen ich meine. Ist der der bei 0:11 als erstes zu hören ist. Wie haste den gemacht? Finde ich sehr nice dass du jetzt eurorack Videos machst. Bitte mehr davon!

Ja der eq wird bei mir wahrscheinlich in einer Zukunft mal von analogen Mixer ersetzt.
Im Moment höre ich fast gar keine Musik und nur wenn ich mal Lust auf Patchen habe kommt music um mich und dann kommt gerade einfach sowas raus.

Ach eine Sache noch: Du musst unbedingt mal nen Krell patch versuchen. Das ist seeeehr geil! Habe ich vor kurzem das erste mal gemacht. Mache täglich einen ^^ kann dir ein Blockdiagramm schicken wie ich den Patch mache wenn du möchtest.

@@MordioMusic Such mal nach Eric Schlapp Krell auf youtube, der erklärt das da. Da gibt es so ein Blockdiagram wo drinnen steht welche Funktionen man benutzen muss und was wo reingepatcht wird. Im Grunde genommen braucht man zweu smooth Sample&Hold, ein stepped S&H, drei Envelopes, einen Oszillator mit wave shaping, einen LFO, einen BPF und nen VCA. Dann verkaspert man das ganze so dass der Patch sich selbst spielt. Ist sozusagen generativ und wiederholt sich nie. Richtig nice. Vor allem wenn man das ganze dann einfach als back ground layer benutzt. Die "events" sind halt nicht synchron, aber man kann natürlich auch noch modulationen mit einfließen lassen die synchron zum beat sind. Kommt auf jeden Fall richtig gut. Vor allem wenn man das ganze dann in Clouds jagt, falls du eins hast. Macht schon echt was her. Musst du echt mal ausprobieren.

@@MordioMusic cool I understand, I also have an Ableton's template session myself, so I dont have to look at it that much and just focused on synth. It was just fun.

Don't want to be an a-hole but shouldn't this be the most basic way to work with ableton + gear of any kind? its how I always did things more or less. sure you can mix things together out the box. but yeah ableton is basicly made for this exact workflow.
I just figured out how to perfectly sync my rig with cv tools + a presonus soundcard (no amp required). It's great.
