    Modern Problems in Forge of Empires
    Many players are facing problems in the Modern Era that they havn't had before. Some resign and stop playing the game at least for a while. Suddenly all these habits from previous ages are no longer enough. This already starts a bit in the Industrial Age, but is not as visible there as you still can survive by just continuing what you did before. But this behaviour becomes a bad disadvantage in the Modern Era.
    Those who decided to have two lane roads early often cannot understand the problems I am currently talking about. In the video shown a city that managed the transition quite well. You can recognize that from the huge stock of supplies. I personally like to have all my production buildings close to each other to collect productions with just one mouse move.
    Now you can see a city that is completely messed up. On the first view this is not looking so dramatically. But this city has severe problems!
    In the Progressive Era tarmac roads were the first 2 lane roads. In this city you can see that they were not used much. As a result old buildings were kept much longer. But these are not producing enough. Finally the whole building space is used, you are unable to build more, but you still don't have enough happiness, population, goods and even supplies.
    The Modern Era offers the hatter for this. Is is a tiny building which needs small streets only. It can help to add more supplies. But this takes time. Therefore we also look for other possibilities to solve the problem.
    You could conquer provinces offering supplies as a reward. But this will not bring a significant change as this possibility is very limited.
    Motivate and polish other players so that they return the favor. This often makes people enthusiastic again and increases your supply production by 20%. Motivated production buildings double their output. That helps! Think about adding new friends. Use the global chat for this.
    You can reduce the production intervals and improve the result by this. But you should expect to get a smaller percentage of your many productions be motivated then.
    Existing event buildings which produced goods or forge points before, temporarily can be used to produce supplies. This is a good idea for a short time to solve a severe problem.
    Much better results provides the investment of some silver coins for buffs in the tavern. Adding 60% production bonus for 24 hours helps. Also buffs from the inventory do the same.
    With the added supplies you can build a new residential building. This provides more population so that you can build a new production building of the Modern Era replacing an old one. This again delivers more supplies. This way you can replace buildings one by one. Slowly the city looks different. Also the production grows significantly. This solves one problem, but only one. We still don't have enough space.
    Looking into your inventory can be very helpful. Event buildings can help a lot in such a situation. The video shows a residential building from the carnival event providing population and happiness. It replaces a residential building from a previous age. And a Montgolfier Balloon replaces a very old winter market, completing a quest as a side effect.
    Finding a renovation kit in your inventory can also be helpful. Applied to a Foebergé shop it increases supply production and happiness. The Pole House and the Tree of Love need a decision: Either renovation or deleting.
    Using the newly won supplies for the replacement of old residential buildings you win a lot of space. These buildings do not all require two lane roads. The Suburban House of the Modern Era provides an interesting building type that only needs small streets while adding 1,330 population each. This helps during your city redesign but consumes a lot of resources. Therefore such a reconstruction will take several days.
    Slowly, day by day, we make progress towards a Modern Era city. If there is still some space left at a two lane road a Prefab House can be placed instead of a Suburban House. This requires less supplies and provides a little bit more population. As soon as the old buildings are destroyed we get space for further development.
    The small streets were very flexible. They could be adopted easily to every building structure. Two lane roads are much more inflexible, also as they only can start on every second tile. Now many plans have to follw the roads, no longer the streets following the structure.
    Sometimes it is very helpful to have some more space. A look on the map tells us if we still can expect expansions for conquering new provinces.
    You also should leave more space on both sides of two lane roads as many new buildings often are much bigger. You should only have a minimum of crossings and bends. These reduce your efficiency significantly. Normally you only need one crossing.
    I don't like motels much. But if they are built once, I would not replace them before the Postmodern Era.
    In the end the city looks completely different. More important is, that the stock of supplies is growing again. This is very important as buildings and research in the Postmodern Era need millions of supplies.

      Do you agree with lower age players obtaining far ahead GBs? I know some people(with the exception of the ARC)Think that's cheating! However I plan on having my Himeji at 58 by Industrial Age! And with that the amount of daily supplies is incredible and with multi million supplies a days I was thinking that would help so much! Also in my current city I have only 5 residential buildings as the event buildings have provided me with so much population and happiness to cover the population that I don't need any residential buildings! Also I find that for example in VF Golden Rice needs the honey boost as well as Purified Water! And that's a Re refined good! But with event buildings it's possible to get goods so much easier! And so I thought that as long as I have enough Goods producing event buildings I should be alright in these later eras! Also when I got the goods for Space Carrier, the guy told me as long as I have that at 58 by arctic future promethium will be no challenge as SC takes care of it! But I very much enjoyed this as I haven't even gotten a point where I could comprehend 2x2 roads! But I know I will be watching this again! Oh so on the fandom wiki it claims that the terrace farm upgrade is out! I have still yet to see it and was curious if you've heard anything about all the GE buildings having either an upgrade or for FoY a shrink kit!

    Great video, however you forgot to mention the best solution to a supply shortage problem in any age. That would be a leveled up Lighthouse!

    Thanks for the video!
    "lack of happiness" - just level up some GBs (don't rush through ages)
    "not enough supplies/goods/coins" - same here, don't rush
    "old buildings" - same solution.
    Conclusion - do not rush through tech tree, stay a bit longer in PE to accumulate goods/supplies/coins in your bank, problems solved!
    p.s. Nice that you mentioned Hatter, its very population per supply efficient building. And its also good for solving quests because you can place 8-12 in the city.
    p.p.s. I won't advise building any cultural buildings or event buildings that provide culture only. Always choose building with at least one more bonus, like attack/defense/coins/supplies % boost or goods/fp production when motivated.
    Premium houses are not that beneficial because they have 8h collection time. That said motivated suburbian house will give more coins than 2x8h collections from luxury dwelling (which require 2x lane road) and slightly less population . Is it worth 450 diamonds? Probably not.

      Now for it's updated version-
      Supplies- Himeji
      Coins- Smb
      Happiness- traz/hagia (hagia is only worth it's space at >50)
      Population- event buildings like september cottage (inno is outdated af)
      Fp- cdm, cape, hagia, event buildings, cultural settlement buildings like yggdrasil etc. Dont forget to do gbg, its important, like a LOT, it gives good rewards
      Goods- event buildings, cultural settlement buildings, smb, loa
      Special goods- sc, and well, nothing else. Special goods are a grind.
      all of your points still apply, although i dont know what Hatter is.

    I wound up clearing my city out. I deleted every single road and building except for my great buildings and rebuilt my city from the ground up. Now I’m resting on great amounts of production of supplies and goods, I’ll probably keep my city like this and not research anything for maybe a year, while I stock up on supplies and level up my Alcatraz.

    It's much more efficient to buy the goods for an Inno Tower and an Alcatraz (for fp) in the Early/High Middle Ages, and upgrade it to lvl 7-8. This way you never have to worry about the population and happiness.

    Why does *Cattle Ranch* (Progressive Era production building) produces more supplies then any Modern Era production building?
    *Cattle Ranch* (7x6) - 3100 supplies/hour (73.81 supplies/tile/hour)
    *Hatter* (3x3) - 740 supplies/hour (82.22 supplies/tile/hour)
    *Appliance Factory* (4x5) - 2150 supplies/hour (107.5 supplies/tile/hour)
    *Aircraft Factory* (6x4) - 2490 supplies/hour (103.75 supplies/tile/hour)
    They may be more officiant with space, but Cattle Ranch still produces more per hour, so why would anyone build those 3 when I can keep my ranch?

      If you have the space, keep the Cattle Ranch. Another advantage: More benefit from a single motivation by other players.

      @@FoEhints is it some kind of commentary on quality of life for workers in that Era compare to farmers? I wouldn't be surprised, seeing as before the Era where we left borders of reality, most of buildings, decorations, goods, and other, had a really nice coltural, historical, or informational tone
      Srsly, I didn't even know what paratroopers were/are, till I googled it, after seeing them in my current Era

    I'm currently worried about progressive as I was in first a terrible ghouild that I had a bad mentor who was giving me awful advice and from that It was thanks to you for beginning to fix this huge issue of having a wide city! But currently I'm doing great! But when the 2 lane roads come in I have no idea what to do

      Use as little of the two-lane roads by putting all buildings that require them close to the town hall. These buildings should be avoided as much as possible, in my case I only have use these roads for barracks and that's it

    This is why the Reconstruct mode was added (but you have to place everything, which is a pain in the ass).
    Edit: yes, I know this was made waaay before it was implemented.

    i usually camp the end of an age for a while, i got to modern era on friday with 13m coins and 4m supplies, already had the goods to rush and unlock the hatter, the GE is going a little rough because im midway building the ME artillery unit building but in a week or 2 when i have the rest it will be much easier.

    i want to understand one thing plz , and this is what preventing me from moving to Modern Era (when the GBs that gives goods like Dresden or Lighthouse of Alex says it'll gives me double what i collect now in progressive era but from unrefined good ) !!!
    in my city , now Dresden gives me 20 goods from progressive goods , and when i move to Modern Era it'll gives 40 of what ????
    plz need to understand this , thanks in advance .

      it will provide goods of three ages before modern which is Colonial age. I will publish the Modern Era video tomoroow. This will make it much clearer. The Modern Era video was scheduled for today, but then I noticed that it refers to the video Modern problems. Therefore I gad to translate this one before. I am a little behind with translations atm.

    I forget when it happened, but at some point, in my 1st city, my supplies were so low I couldn't produce goods.
    I've not seen anyone else do this, but when I calculate how good a building is (x/square), for those that require a two-lane road, I take the shortest side, then add 50%. So, a 6x3 building (18 squares) I would count as 20 (3*0.5=1.5, round up to 2). It's not correct, imo, to give buildings that require single-lane roads, and 2-lane roads the same values.
    Yeah, event buildings are usually a clear win, as many produce population and happiness w/in the same squares. When I realized this, it really helped free up a lot of space. However, event buildings like this only produce gold once a day, so having an SMB is important, because after the modern era, then gold can become scarce.
    Having a lighthouse or royal albert hall is still important because when you enter the arctic future, you need a whole ****-ton of supplies.

      I think that due to these many events and event buildings the problem no longer is the same. Some years ago the Modern Era was a bigger challenge than it is today.

      You saw that I wrote it in the video as a possibility.
      Not everybody wants or can get an Innovation Tower in Modern Era already. But those who can, e g because they are playing on a server with many players already being more advanced, it is helping a lot regarding space and used supplies. But it makes your progress through the ages a bit slower.

    I actually had a similar less severe problem. Rn i have 7k excess population and 2 of both my boosted modern era goods and 2 Asbestos factories and one Explosives factory plus 5 Garages and an Aircraft factory and i still have little space because of my inordinate amount of decorations which i NEED because i dont have a good Happiness Generating GB at the moment alongide the fact my coin production sucks due to lack of houses

    use event buildings. You got regular housing. I don't need housing or buildings that make goods the coventional way. special makes em and combat and fp

      yes, these excellent event buildings changed the game a lot. Therefore a 6 years old video cannot be valid in all aspects today.
      Until 2015 the only event building giving a (single!) forge point every day was the wishing well.

    If you have foemanager, or play on H, U, or V, you can look up my modern cities (us server, player name same as mine). Three different varieties on the same theme. Very few 2 lane roads, and many hatters (40+). The hatters also act as recurring quest fuel--I do 30 a day, and that gets me 150+ goods a day with my CF. My oldest is U, and there I have enough goods, supplies, and coins to jump from Modern to Contemporary right now (would take about an hour). I'm staying, because the hatters help my Arc push with occasional FP pack rewards.

      Don't forget to level your CF! Both P\e and CE are excellent eras to stay in, so the decision if and when to jump to CE is yours.

      I could see the potential problem with this, but the arc makes space less of an issue. If you do not build the arc from earlier ages the best time to build this at the very latest I am betting would be perhaps the Progressive ,Modern, or Postmoderm Era. Also, to be realistic cars were actually first officially used starting from the Progressive Era. If two lane roads in this game did not exist it would contradict real life history of using them as well. In addition, I am also under the impression that when starting an age where double roads are required you may need to use less military and/or goods buildings.

      Looking on the snapshot, I first see: too many streets (wasting space) and residential buildings from previous ages. Beside that: Try to get more (event-) buildings which provide forge points, especially Shrine of Knowledge.

    Imho the population problem can be solved almost instantly with Innovation Tower. Ofcourse you'll probably need help from a higher ranked guildmate for the GB resources, or focus on getting the prints en resources yourself

      These days it's so easy to get high great buildings as the goods are so cheap, so you can get Innovation for population, Traz for happiness, throw in a Himeji for supplies and you're set. Event buildings are so overpowered that it's not really a problem anymore
