(Lyrics):
[Verse 1]
'Cause it's a bitter sweet symphony that's life
Trying to make ends meet, you're a slave to money then you die
I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down
You know the one that takes you to the places
Where all the veins meet, yeah
[Chorus 1]
No change, I can change
I can change, I can change
But I'm here in my mould
I am here in my mould
But I'm a million different people from one day to the next
I can't change my mould
No, no, no, no, no, no, no
(Have you ever been down?)
[Verse 2]
Well I've never prayed, but tonight I'm on my knees, yeah
I need to hear some sounds that recognize the pain in me, yeah
I let the melody shine, let it cleanse my mind, I feel free now
But the airwaves are clean and there's nobody singing to me now
[Chorus 2]
No change, I can change
I can change, I can change
But I'm here in my mould
I am here in my mould
And I'm a million different people from one day to the next
I can't change my mould
No, no, no, no, no
Have you ever been down?
I can't change it you know, I can't change it
[Verse 3]
'Cause it's a bitter sweet symphony, that's life
Trying to make ends meet
Trying to find somebody, then you die
I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down
You know the one that takes you to the places
Where all the veins meet, yeah
[Chorus 3 + Outro]
You know I can change, I can change
I can change, I can change
But I'm here in my mould
I am here in my mould
And I'm a million different people from one day to the next
I can't change my mould, no, no, no, no, no
I can't change my mould, no, no, no, no, no
I can't change my mould, no, no, no, no, no
You've gotta change my mould, no, no, no
(It's just sex and violence, melody and silence)
(Gotta, can't change my violence, melody and silence)
(Gotta can't change my violence, melody and silence)
(I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down)
(Gotta, can't change my violence, melody and silence)
(I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down)
(Gotta, can't change my violence, melody and silence)
Been down
Ever been down
(Can't change my violence, melody and silence)
Ever been down
Ever been down
Ever been down
Have you ever been down?
Have you ever been down?
Have you ever been down?

Played this song loud in the car as I drove away from nursing school for the last time. I put my hand out the window and let the wind blow in my hair. Been a nurse for 15 years now
Ay man live your dreams life is short I believe in you, don’t be afraid we only got one shot at life
Thank you for all you do! I myself am in the medical field, sterile processing technician we both have good taste in music!😉
Trying to make ends meet you’re a slave to the money then you die.

Love this, I’m also a nurse! ❤✊🏼
This is the song that played in the hotel bar when I put my last drink down and rang rehab . I will never forget it. Accepting what I was , going to get help and this song, I felt free for the first time and still do!
Very proud of you!
Woooooow. God was
Very close to you.

God bless you more and more richly each day with courage and strength. Your bravery is amazing.
I don't know you, and I am very proud. Well done!
What a badass song to start your new life!
I listened to this song sitting by a pond by myself after I just got done burying my little brother. Now it gives me peace, knowing that if we're loved, we've done enough. That's all there is.

l just woke up this morning with the title of this song in my head, l have just sat here reading the lyrics and crying, so much pain over the last few years after my partner passed away in 2020, grief changes you, and the message l got from this song is you can't keep living for the past you have to embrace now and start to live again and love again, hugs to everyone that has lost a loved one ❤
Massive hugs to you from Ireland. I hope you are finding contentment in your days xxxx
Wishing you light, love and healing. 🌹
Very wise you are... It is a message offered through and by and with the Holy Spirit, whose signs (including through culture - here music) fit us better to love and serve the Creator and the Saviour. All things the Holy Spirit touches are beautiful.
Those with ears will HEAR no matter what AGE 🎉🎉🎉
'A slave to money then you die' realest word's I've ever heard
25 years later and this song is still so powerful....♥️
25 years?! Blimey, I remember when this came out haha
OMG is this song already 25 years old...stil beautiful ...time go's fast
Yes indeed
Sometimes I just need to hear songs like this to ground me. Sometimes you just need a dose of reality
for REAL!
Uh-LADY!Your"REALITY"-Is my"FANTASY"-O-K?🤣
True
Your so right
Songs with calm music like Crosby Nash and nd Young , it helped me a lot and Simone and Garfunkel 👍
Had to watch this to sing it to my special needs son (cerebral palsy/ autism) who is physically 36, mentally around 10..because they keep playing it on a Publix commercial and my son always says “there’s that song again Mom..it makes me wanna dance” ☺️ I’ve always loved it, love it even more now ❤️
Offer thanks to the one who really and ultimate deserves it - the Holy Spirit urging us on towards Father and Son by this and many other divinely beautiful methods and mechanisms...
I’m only a janitor for living I listen to this song after my work ❤
It's honest work. And necessary. Appreciate anyone who is willing to clean.
its a job it pays your bills it commands attention!
Proverbs 22:29
Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings; He will not stand before unknown men.
Thank you!

This song (an instrumental version) was played at my friend's funeral in 2021 as her coffin was carried into the hearse to be cremated. I never cried so hard in my life as I wished I could have hugged her one last time. Now this song reminds me of said friend.
Its on my list too..put it on yours
I felt the same way I can remember in my heart and smile that I am able to have my last hug from my auntie before she past on and Thankfully I know that she is on the other side with God and being one of His angels to protect us all from evil.
I'm sorry that your friend passed away but she's in a better place now 🙏
I am feeling every word right now. The feeling of severe clinical depression. I can laugh one minute, And cry the next. Pain of the moment, And so many great memories. I miss you mom. 😢
It must be painful missing your mom😢
@abeeraaslam6414 It is. Very. I was a mommy's girl. I watched her die for 13 months. It was awful. There is no other pain like losing your mom. NOTHING is the same. There's just empty space. There are so many triggers. My cat Oreo went to join her in Dec 2021. My mom died in Dec 2018. She loved my mom. She looked for her for a long time. Behave Oreo.
🙋🌹😘
@@abeeraaslam6414 Yes, it is. My mother passed away in 1996 and even today it seems like it happened yesterday, it is something simply devastating even as the years go by. 😔
I lost my mother in 2017 and I can feel your pain.❤
Walked away from toxic family members and for the first time in my life i feel peace ❤ This song plays on replay on my traveling adventures with my kiddos and huaband . A reminder that im free ❤
This might just be the best song ever. It’s so inspiring. Helped me get clean and move out to college 12 years ago.
That's awesome. Hope life is treating you well.
Me too & still going strong 💪
One of? For sure, but the best is "i am the mountain" by the wind rose, i highly recommend it

It's so awesome how this song touches so many people and is there for those when they need to hear something like it so they can get that warm feeling inside and feel that gratefulness to be alive one of my best friends used to come over and ask me to play it and I fell in love with the song as well R.I.P. May 5th 2022.....Cinco De Mayo. I can finally sleep tonight having finally found it today after years of not knowing the name or who but constantly hearing it in my head. I feel at peace finally....weird huh?
I first heard this song in 2012, and it has been popping in my mind ever since. After 11 years of searching, I finally found it.
i first heard this song at 230 in the morning in 2003 on a late night music show on tv and I've been listening to it ever since it's 2024 and I'm 65 now and I still love this song
I think the first time I heard it was in Cruel Intentions. I instantly fell in love.
I can play the violin part to this
A violin playing hippo?👍👏
Sorry Rhino!!!
@@brnrik500 I'm not technically a rhino I'm an intj female aka a black unicorn. Therefore because black rhinos are the real black unicorns according to the original nomenclature that would be why the black rhinoceros is the avatar of my channel.
Wow! To read your stories related to this song is astounding! Bless you all😊
Lost a friend yesterday.. YT is the only place I feel I can express how I feel right now... This song has been playing on my mind reminding me of her.. Happy mother's day Buina
When this originally released I was a teenager so didn’t really know what it meant now I am 40 and now know what it means
It’s June now. If you are still listening to this then you are a legend
Yet it's only May 5th, 2024 and YT dates your comment as 'One year ago.' I guess next month in June your comment will register at '2 years ago.'
I'm really just annoyed since YT removed the specific date all videos debut on this platform and I Don't know Why that was done especially if your comment was posted 'One year, 11 month's ago' if you can see what I mean. It's no big deal, it's just WHY??
This song is an anthem
Notice how he says, "You're a slave to money than you die!" He isn't talking about himself. He is Illuminated and part of this group. He is telling us "good slaves" what our lives are all about. I saw Ashcroft in concert back in the early 2000s. The dude is not as short as they say. He is well over 6 foot (He wars long shirts and coats that go over his butt and always bends down when singing and or has props covering his true leg length). That is former NBA Player Kirk Hinrich wearing a big nosed facial prosthetic (Whatever Rothschild that is). Go look at the wives... Exact same people... Either way, great song, but these people singing it aren't our friends. They more or less rub these subliminal messages in our faces.
I would have never heard this masterpiece had I not seen the movie Cruel Intentions with Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillipe.
Lol I watched that last night and thought ahh yes been a while since I heard this. Not a bad film never knew I would like it.

When I listen to this song I feel at peace.
My love and empathy for this Verve song will NOT die.
Heard this song on the movie cruel intentions a long time ago and I love it!
Same! I was looking for someone else talking about Cruel Intentions
This is a literary and music masterpiece.
Fun fact: the verve never made any money off this song because the instrumental was created by The Rolling Stones. Great song tho
This song has made me stare in awe ever since 10th grade hearing it one morning the year it came out, on the radio in 1st period shop class. It was 98, and I felt like I had my entire life ahead of me, and when I hear it now at 40 it gives me the same feeling.
Me too..well i was a believe a sophomore or junior back in 2001...almost 40. Memories
I heard this song for the first time at 8 years old. Even at that age I understood the meaning of the song. My childhood upbringing unfortunately matured me beyond my years. I will never forget how this song made me feel.
This song is just…otherworldly. The lyrics have such meaning, the music…it’s a whole bunch of instruments that I would not have thought would sound good together yet somehow….they make this perfect song. It’s like the instruments just kinda dance around each other go in and out, twisting and twirling till they make this masterpiece
Saw a video about this one. This was basically an attempt to make parts of The last time by the Andrew Oldham orchestra

Imagine walking the same path today on the street! So much has changed and it wouldn’t be possible so it’s a bitter sweet symphony that he was able to make his poin t as he walked free… our freedoms are disappearing as our world becomes a different religion
This song is a melancholic tribute to the golden age of my existence.
Played this as I was leaving the Marine Corps (active duty) and heading to college, as a young man who barely made it thru high school, barely made it thru boot camp, and heading off to reinvent myself knowing life would be a series of more winging it as I was on an atypical journey for my goals. 25 years later, and realizing it is time to make new goals and journeys so I don't become stagnant. I am here in my mould, and I am the same man, but I can choose to avoid the rat race and traps he refers to.
Currectly doing my 4 years right now

One of the most beautiful beginnings to a song. Comes from afar, and builds to a climatic crescendo as the drums fall...my word is it beautiful😭. May it heal those that need healing🫂

I like how everybody uses this song as their soundtrack during super sentimental moments lol. Like “I was off to college to pursue my doctorate, and this song was on.” Or.. “I went and listened to this song right after I made an A on my science quiz” 😂👏🏻
This song feels perfect for a new beginning
Makes me want to change my “mould”.
It’s a good reminder to me that nothing happens, if you don’t make it happens.
This song makes you realize the illusion called life in which we dwell in. Our lives are a drop in the bucket of time, a mere grain of sand on a beach. It's meaningless without the salvation of Jesus Christ. Peace to all.

My very first trip to London...memories...
Every time I hear this song I visualize him driving the open top on the highway. She wanted me to watch cruel intentions for whatever reason.
