    Thanks for the tip about Member Connect. I was already aware that when searching for records on my people that there would be an area on the lower right of a record I was reviewing that said “Find Others [Re]Searching” and then the name. But Member Connect seems so much faster and easier! Thanks!

    On customizing the homepage, I don't have the customize link at the top of the page how can I get it?

    • @GenealogyTV
      @GenealogyTV  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not sure. I’m gonna ask the ancestry people next time I talk to them. Several people have said they don’t have that customization feature.

    I use related if the person is a significant other, not married. Sometimes I use it if the spouse is a cousin. Many of my early Ancestors married second cousins. The related tab gives me a clue to look. I also use it for a mother/father connection, on the parent page, to a child if the parents are not married

    Can thrulines work for half siblings listed under another parent in your tree? I haven't had luck with that...... I also wish thrulines would work back further than 5th great grandparents.....

    • @GenealogyTV
      @GenealogyTV  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Two things... Thrulines is working using other peoples trees. So if another Ancestry member has listed the parents correctly then it might show up. I've not tested this yet. I think that other Ancestry member might have to have a descendant in that same line who has taken a DNA test too. I'm not exactly sure. I'll ask Ancestry when I get a chance. Regarding your second comment, Autosomal DNA is only valid back to about 200 years... so you might not have enough DNA from a 5th great grandparent to use for genealogy. I have a video that explains this starting at about 4:36 into this video... th-cam.com/video/792WHKBIOy4/w-d-xo.html

    Thanks for all your work and videos. . .Just watched this one, the members connect in my tree is/was in a drop down menu under "profile-tools". I had not noticed/used before, so I had to "check" show research tools on the page to display (like your demo shows). Thanks again.

    Thank you Connie for all your helpful advice. This time you showed me how helpful member connect can be. I have a question for you. If someone in your family has had a gender change operation, in this case born female and died male, how do you present that in your tree? I have just left that person as female as genetically they are still female. Best wishes, Ian.

    • @GenealogyTV
      @GenealogyTV  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Considering many of the records likely would match the gender at birth and just like a birth birth name, I would list this person with the same gender and name as at birth. However, I would make a note of the gender change so there is no confusion for future researchers.

    Excellent tips. I am a user from England, and it looks like there is no facility to change the home page like you have shown on your video. Also, on an individual persons records there are no quick link buttons under where you would see a picture, to e.g. go to members connect. What a shame, as they would be very useful.

    • @GenealogyTV
      @GenealogyTV  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I totally forgot, you have to turn on those buttons. While in a profile, go to tools at the top right of the page, last option should say "Show Research Tools:. Try that... let me know if you see them. Thanks for pointing that out.

  • @alanheadrick7997
    @alanheadrick7997 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The only option I have is hide match. So are these options paid for? It seems my account is missing pretty much everything. I see 495 matches and that's its.

    • @GenealogyTV
      @GenealogyTV  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alan, I'm not sure what you're talking about in this episode about a "match." If you're referring to the Member Connect, you have to turn it (while in the profile of any person) on under the Tools drop down menu on the upper right corner, select Show Research Tool. That will show Member Connect options.

    Hi. I don't have a tree on Ancestry.com but on Family Tree. I found the relationship addition interesting. I found my bio dad and don't want to add my step dad. How is that possible if I don't want to add my step dad and my bio dad and mother had a one night stand and weren't married? As long as I've had family tree, I still can't figure it out.

    My "pages" don't show a member connect at all, is it in beta?
    I went to the Q&A -Help page and inquired how to gain it and no helpful response. I checked extras- nope!
    In regards to the relationship question of "related" - my adopted mother is also my 1C12.R..while distant she a relation! Maybe that's the type of thing they have in mind?

    • @GenealogyTV
      @GenealogyTV  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I totally forgot to mention, you have to turn on those buttons. While in a profile, go to "Tools" at the top right of the page, last option should say "Show Research Tools:. Try that... let me know if you see them.
      Regarding the "Relation" option... I image you can use it for whatever rocks your world. But the idea is that by setting two sets of parents (however you label them) you can split the tree so your can trace backwards from two sets of parents, such as a biological parent or an adopted or other relationship parent. Thanks for the comment.

    This was really useful information as I'm adopted.
    The only thing that is confusing is where you were adding relationships and you clicked on "adopted parents".
    There should be an option of "adoptive parent" not "adopted parent" as it makes it look like the parent is the adopted person, IYSWIM.
    Maybe Ancestry need to add in both options, "adoptive" and "adopted" to avoid confusion.

    • @GenealogyTV
      @GenealogyTV  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not to confuse things but you can add MyTreeTags too but that does change the tree at all.

    • @jmk1962

      @@GenealogyTV Yes i have already done that on my tree, but do you have to be subscribed to access the edit relationship thing you showed in this video as I can't see it in mine at all, but maybe it's different in the UK Ancestry site?

      @JMK I honestly don't know. That's a good question. I do know I forgot to mention that you have to turn on the tools in the profile under "Tools" in the upper right corner to see the other "Member Connect: and such. That's a good question... maybe someone reading this thread will know.

    Hi Connie:-) I'm trying to work out how I enter a person's info that never married and never had kids. I want to enter this info so other members don't waste time searching. Is there a way to enter it on the profile tab?
    Thank you so much for the great information and the time you spend teaching people (like myself) this stuff. Great job Connie :-)

    • @GenealogyTV
      @GenealogyTV  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Annie, if you have any information that links them to someone else, like a parent or sibling, you can add that person as their relative, but then just don't add a spouse or children. You can make a public comment in their profile (for all to see), that states they never married or had children. Hope that helps.

    I am having a heck of a problem. Didn't put the right parents on someone deep in my tree and have gone into putting many ancestors after that. Can you just put a few people in the middle of a large tree that seemed to get bypassed. Large I mean more than 20 generations. Please show editing in middle of larger tree
