- This video for medical students begins by reviewing fetal circulation since that is key to understanding two of the left to right shunts we'll be addressing: patent foramen ovale and patent ductus arteriosus. Other topics included in this video include general characteristics of left to right shunts, Eisenmenger syndrome (tardive cyanosis), atrial septal defects, and ventricular septal defects.
It is recommended that you watch this video before watching the video on right to left shunts.

Hello doc I always watch your videos, your videos are very helpful aside from reading the Robin patho.
Thank you so much
Thank you for the feedback!! It means a lot to me!
My friend, housemate and mother of my best friend's 9 year old daughter died on August 11th 2023. She had received a shunt after going through sepsis in early March of this year. I really have nothing to say. When she received the shunt she was told she had about two years. I told her we'd make it ten or more. She died 6 months later, spending three of those months in the hospital needing heavy amounts of care . I'm just incredibly sad and want to understand why this happened to her. Sorry for being so vague.
Great video mam
