  • Clinton High School in Clinton, Tennessee was the first public high school that underwent court order desegregation. This is the story of twelve brave students who didn't give up on their right for a public education. Learn where schools stand today on equity issues, 60 years after Brown v. Board of Education, at www.nea.org/schoolequity.

Thank you Ciara W. & Malaich.
My Aunt Minnnie Ann Dickey was and is one of the Clinton 12. The emotions I carry are twofold privileged & sorrow, my family members had never spoke of this event until the first ceremony took place to honor them, in Clinton Tn yrs ago. We sat in that Church and listened to the documentary of how our family members & others had to hid during the riots, hearing this for the very first time we sat there in tears & in disbelief!
Blacks & Caucasians sitting together you could have heard a pin drop, that event traumatised my Aunt Minnnie that's why she didn't speak about again. Aunt Minnnie told stories of how frightening is was to walk the hallways of Green McAdoo high school they were hit, spat at, called horrible name's I'm honored to call her my Aunt in the photograph she's the tall beautiful Lady in the stripped dress, on the right. However traumatic it was, she turned out to be a loving and very kind person. I'm so honored to say that she was apart of a group of young black teenagers that changed the face of history. Thank you Clinton 12!
My sister & I recently went to Clinton Tennesse for business and I can honestly say, we meet some of the most genuinely nicest people in Clinton old & young. So in my opinion change did come!

I was never taught, therefore I do not understand! The concept brings tears to my eyes and a deep agonizing pain to my heart! I thank my parents for not teaching me this attribute of unjustified hatred! I thank my parents for teaching me to love God and all of His marvelous creations! I was never taught.....racism! It's such an ugly word! I thank the Clinton 12 for their bravery and for helping to pave the way for me! I pray that society opens it's heart to racial equality. With tears in my eyes, I pray!

Hi,my name is Elizabeth and I'm the granddaughter of Sidney and Eleanor Davis. My grandfather walked with the students as well that day and was a judge in Clinton that helped push through the desegregation of Clinton High. My grandmother's classroom was bombed by local kkk idiots and even burned crosses in the yard and broke windows out in there house. Though my grandparents stood strong and I even have the copies of the vhs tapes from my grandmother's interview on national news. It would be great to talk. You can message me if you like.
