I got ICOA 12 bt in august. Its heavy compared to my Electro Voice elx12. But I would consider the bass so much lower in the LD system then my Electro Voice.
@@LincolnRon not if you want to use them without a sub of course. It's supposed to be a full range speaker! I'd much rather have a fuller range and then take the bottom end off using the built in EQ on these if I was using them with a sub than have a gutless top that needs a sub to operate.
@@jespurrier 15-inch tops are the worst of both worlds, extra weight with lower quality mids and weaker bass. 8-inch, 10-inch, and 12-inch tops are always better than 15-inch tops. If you want more bass buy a subwoofer or buy multiple subwoofers.

However I would say that two full range 15's would still take up less space than two 12" speakers and a sub so could provide a bigger bang for some people. It's all about your particular use case. If I was using two 15's I certainly wouldn't be happy at all if they lacked bass and needed a sub to sound good.
@@LincolnRonI used the 10" version of the 12" alto ts312's that I have and it's crazy how much less far they could throw the sound and just seemed far quieter despite having the same amps inside so that's another consideration... The bigger cones move more air. This is why I've just got the 12" version of these LD's as even though LD aren't bragging about specs. The word is that these are way louder, more bassy, and throw much further than the altos which are themselves, very loud for their size and I'm very happy with them. I'm also interested in the coaxial design and how it gives a better spread of sound. I think we're going to see Lot more of these types of PA speaker in the future. I own the LD Dave 18 system so I know these guys can make some great sounding PA systems.
Ld Systems is a great company. It is a shame the ICOA is so heavy but it is a very nice product. I find more point on their Maui series (maui 5 go and maui 44 (G1 and G2). And maybe the curv ones on certain aplications. Alto seems a very nice bet right now, waiting for their 4th gen on the TS series and maybe a nice column array to spice things up. EV is very weird. To me there are some products that make all the sense of the world and some that seem to be too expensive compar3d to the rest and offer less than the rest. LD systems is a brand that to me makes sense on the column and semi line array products. Alto is the king of low cost point source speakers and EV goes for the high end like the ETX series.
The icoa 15 is a good PA for the price it's heavy because it has a bigger coil than the competitors at this price, so it can sound with a lot of bass without an additional subwoofer.

I just bought a pair of Alto ts315’s and my first impressions were that I love them after using them the first time. I’d say you might look into an Ev ELX 200-15p, but they’re twice as expensive as the Altos.
I'd look elsewhere. In the Fall of 2019 I bought a pair of them from Guitar Center. They were very powerful, not too heavy and did the job. Then due to the pandemic they sat in storage for a year. Just long enough for the warranty to expire. Removing them from storage we found that one of them was completely dead. Amp tech said it needed a whole new power amp (which is apparently the way this type of thing is now repaired and it's got a 2 ohm woofer so you have to get the exact same amp). Alto is completely useless for any type of customer service. Even trying to buy a replacement amp from them was pointless. At that point I did some online checking about the product and found out that many other people were in the same boat. Buyer beware and if you buy them anyway, also buy the most comprehensive warranty you can get. (at which point you will not have saved any money over other brands)
Are these speakers only for professional use or also for casually listening to music? While looking for active speakers, I came across the LD and I’m wondering if it fits my needs. It’s only for casual listening from my phone or laptop but I really want great sound. Lively, detailed, nice bass, etc. Also i can’t spend too much money and the product needs to be available in the Netherlands (which the LD are) Thank you :)
ja hoor, heb zelf de icoa 15a bt (de bluetooth variant) . ik heb hem normaal in mn mancave staan met een subje maar je kan deze speaker perfect meenemen naar een drink met vrienden ofzo. speelt lekker luid en heeft goedde bass. nadeeltje is dat ie wel veel weegt dus je pakt het niet zomaar mee op de fiets maar prijs/qualiteit zeer goed. ik raad aan dat je ze is gaat beluisteren in een bax shop in goes of amsterdam.
LD are almost twice the weight of the comparable Mackie and lists realistic rms figures (rather than nonsense 20 bazillion watts in big red letters on the front of its speakers, aka JBL Xplode from back in the day) and this puts you off? Unless they're installing concrete within their speaker cabinets just to add the weight, to me it suggests better built cabs and bigger magnets and components?

But its true 300watt…most of these 9000watt 2000watt speakers people dont understand truth open them UP and you see cheap made HF and stamped driver. Please take a nose at real Drivers; b&c speakers, fatial pro drivers, beyma. Most FBT stuff use b&c (unreal quality)
LD puts both EV and Alto to shame sound wise. The only draw back I have is that they are very large and very heavy. Especially when I compare them to the QCS systems I normally run.

Tops are all about the mids and the highs not the bass. Bass is for subs not tops.

I bought the Balde series 15" speakers from Expert Island and they rock. Soon to buy dual 18" subs. Cannot beat the price.
