I've made this before but literally just dumped everything in the pan as the name says, didn't stir anything and it still came out just fine. Didn't cut the butter up either. The girls at told e how to make this said just "dump" the peaches, cake mix and a stick of butter together and put it in the oven. I was like, yeah right. I'm gonna ruin it but nope. It amazingly came out like I spent all day in the kitchen. So, so so easy. And tasty. Yum yum.

I’ve made similar to this for decades, but noticed lately that it was different than my older versions. Realized it was because the “heavy syrup” of old in the can wasn’t as thick. I’ll have to drain the second can like you do. I don’t use cake mix but a flour mixture. Great recipe!
You actually dont wanna pat it all down flat because the peaks and valleys is what gives u nice crunch and texture. You could put half and pay down then add rest without pating down!

I make this! 😋 With 2 small changes...I drain my peaches, and I cut a stick of butter, not margarine, into the cake mix to make it crumbly on top. Draining the peaches and not using margarine reduces the moisture so the cake mix stays crumbly for the most part. So delicious...😋😋😋

I'd add a pinch of cardamom and nutmeg to the peaches and make a scone/biscuit topping or fresh cake batter.
