i got this book actually bc i read stone butch blues and i have a hard time reading things that are written dryly (not dry as in bad but you know!) and this was what i was kinda getting but im glad this cleared it up!!
😂 wouldn’t a relatable voice help lift the veil by allowing intelligent observation to come from a black voice…..This is another example of a lack of awareness of the contents message. The portrayal of blackness not being present in these types of spaces is literally the act of maintaining the veil! 😅
Ingenious! At 2:20 we learn that the solution is flexible working hours. Why not bring an end to the cause of the problem which, for Sasha, is being a single mother. Did somebody point a gun at her head and threaten to pull the trigger if she didn't become a single mother? It is known that this culture of the household with the absent father is one of the leading causes of poverty as well as social problems.
Well said @sutherland9 if I say that openly as a "white privileged male" then I am labeled a Bigot toward her situation. At least someone here believes in personal responsibility like I do. A+
The solution is more flexible hours, more workers autonomy and not the choice of family unit. Sasha being married isn't going to solve the fact that Americans are working longer hours for worse pay or the fact that your boss dictates your life. If Sasha married Kehinde they'd both be working 12 hours for starvation wages in a redlined district with shit schools. The "nuclear family will solve all problems!" is a simple and stupid nonsolution that only makes you feel better for following the dominant culture. Also lol "causes of poverty" like white in Appalachia aren't in a nuclear family but are suffering massive poverty, suicide, and drug problems or wealth inequality isn't increasing massively for everyone. Seriously, look up drug rates and suicide rates amongst white males. They're not putting a bullet in their skulls because daddy wasn't there. It must be for some other reason then, huh? A reason related to why Sasha doesn't have control of her leisure time. Lol that an absent father means no uncles, grandparents, male family friends, male cousins, mentors etc. You're full of nonsense and the better you understand the problem and stop listening to nonsense info the better we'll be able to solve this issue together, because it effects us all. Unless you're a millionaire then carry on.
@@gororo9380 You, Gororo, are going to the other extreme because you will not say that being a single mother does indeed present problems whether they be financial or social. I am an American but I am not working longer hours for worse pay and my boss does not dictate my life. My boss does dictate that I work 9 to 5 Monday thru Friday but I understand how allowing all the employees to create their own flexible working hours will create difficulties for management - both logistical and financial difficulties.

@@luisandrade2254 it is very bad! Double consciousness is supposed to always suggest the pain and hardships it puts on black Americans! But this example makes it seem that any and everyone deals with double consciousness! No one asks single mothers to assimilate and totally forget their children! So they fit in to the larger society! This is what black people face everyday! Having to forget we are black to assimilate into the perception white folks have for us!

this simple video helped me a lot thank you.
This was a really good breakdown of DuBois. I really liked it!
Thank this is a great teaching tool for high school students.

Thank you so much!
Very nice video. Thank you
its a good book, i have on my google play library

Great Video!
better than any lecture my terrible professor has given wish I had you as my teacher
You guys know about Eric Dubois "200 Proofs"?
Why they couldn't have a relatable voice to the book . it makes it annoying
What do you mean

Careful with this myth of flexibilization though, even for an analogy, the problem goes deeper than that
It doesnt solve the main “contradiction”, as we are seeing explicitly today

That's a terrible analogy for this book and what DuBois is trying to convey.

For a non-African American audience, it is a very effective analogy.

this video has a lot of inaccuracies
You should name them then, and not keep us in suspense. ;-/
Almost like it’s a short introduction
The book is actually a seering indicement of Southern racism. Not a book about identity politics.

It’s literally the same thing
Let's remember that DuBois was a socialist.
Why is that in anyway relevant
Booker T. Washington won the overall debate. W.E.B. DuBois was leading in the wrong direction.
how?
You got it reverse
