YBD Chocolate Cake (vegan)
What do I need....
4 cups white sugar
5 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups cocoa
1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons salt
2 cups unsweetened soy or almond milk (you can use regular milk here as well)
2 cups water
2 tablespoons instant espresso powder
2 tablespoons white vinegar
1 1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 tablespoon Madagascar bourbon vanilla extract
How do I make this....
-Preheat oven to 350 F and spray pans with nonstick cooking spray.
-Using a stand mixer and whip attachment, combine sugar, flour, cocoa, salt and baking soda in the mixer and turn on low speed. This will sift the ingredients.
-Add espresso powder to the water and set aside.
-Add vinegar to the milk and set aside.
-Add vanilla to the oil.
-While the mixer is running on low, add the oil mixture, milk mixture, and half of the water mixture.
-Mix until incorporated and no lumps are found.
-Add the last bit of water and blend until fully incorporated.
-Fill pans and bake for 30-45 minutes, checking the cakes at 30 minutes for doneness. When fully baked, a toothpick inserted into the cake should come out clean.

Collab with Yolanda from How To Cake It. Either wait till after Covid or just do a digital video collab. Do it on video chat the way she does her interviews. It would be a lot of editing but it would be so cool. Then you guys can send each other the cakes you made to try them and then call each other when you get them and record eating them together and y'alls reactions. PLEASE! Id love to see another cake/pastry artisit collab with another.

OH MY GOODNESS. As a kid, I would cook things and talk to myself like I was a cooking show host. I remember trying to make caramel, but I was basically just melting butter and brown sugar together.

I’ve dyed buttercream black before, for a wedding cake, without using activated charcoal or cocoa powder or using the full bottle of black dye. I do a mixture of black food dye powder and gel black food coloring. I’ve also made black mirror glaze, and it’s so pretty in person. It gets so dark that the black has a blue tint to it. ITS SO AMAZING!!

That is so adorable that you put on your own cooking show! I don't do this but I do sometimes sing about what I am doing to the tune of other songs. I especially do this when my kids are around because it drives them crazy when I sing wrong lyrics to songs.😂They sometimes reward my efforts with laughter as well.

A baker I follow on Instagram always uses white buttercream on the outside of the cake and then tops it with a very thin layer of color saturated buttercream. Saves on amount of food coloring used.
Hey loveeeee it! I have a suggestion maybe do more desserty stuff like pudding etc a lot more variety for a larger audience
Saw a food color trick on TikTok 😂 you just add a little bit of color into the buttercream then melt the buttercream in the microwave. It completely enhances the color and you just pop it into the fridge for about 10 minutes then whip it again. Game changer for me
