Ha... I bought the Pocket 3 six days ago. I also have the Elgato Prompter and I was wondering if I could actually use this setup.... And voila, this video showed up in my feed.... Yay!
The Pocket 3 is probably the best "webcam" I have outside of using HDMI from a mirrorless. It really impressed me. Thanks for this video. I've been trying to think of a way to use it with the Prompter. Now if I can just find the box with all the additional attachments...
Reading my (future) thoughts when you created this - I literally just stated doing some trial and error on this yesterday. I use a different prompter (glide gear) but this video has given me some good ideas to pursue- thank you!
Maybe we should just harass Elgato into making the perfect attachment for us to use our Osmo Pockets with their prompter. I mean, if they can provide a box full of rings for a gazillion different lens sizes, why the hell not add in another DJI-friendly solution?
You just solved the one issue I was trying to solve. Got the Osmo Pocket 3 then the Prompter few months back, and been wanting to use them together. I'm hoping Elgato may release a separate accessory for it
I’m really happy to hear this- your situation is EXACTLY why I wanted to make the video. You could use small friction arms or 3D printed mounts to make things a bit more slick, but it’s nice not to have to do that.
Nicely done. Important to recognize that we can generally control the OP3 remotely from the DJI mobile app... so accessing the physical controls on the camera body isn't super important.
Tom, I can’t thank you enough for all your hard work on these “how to” videos. Straight forward, easy to understand, funny…….. it’s great! Appreciate you! 🔥🔥🔥🤘 Stay cool man. ✌️
Oh Tom, how did you know? I finally got the Prompter with the Black Friday deal combo including the Elgato Mini Light (which is amazing per se), so I'm considering using it with my Pocket 3. Great timing for this video! Cool ideas for joining these two!!!
I have the ulanzi cold shoe mount adapter screwed into the promoter base with the ulanzi expansion adapter on the Osmo, just clip it on and can slide it back and fourth and tilt it up or down.
The unfortunate part is that the prompter will still be tethered to a computer. I really wish they would make it compatible with an iPad or even a phone to run the text. Portability would be amazing.
I see this pop up a lot and it'd definitely open up some cool options, but I feel like the prompter would need a pretty big design change for it to work. I don't think phones/tablets can provide the power it needs or the ability to act as a secondary display. From what I understand (and I could be wrong...it's a thing that happens a lot 😉 ), the Prompter really needs everything a computer can offer in order to work the way that it does. It's probably a reason why mobile prompters have always been relatively basic and limited overall?
@ I was thinking the same thing but I would think that at M1+ iPad should able to handle the output. If not, it would great to add a USB-C power port. It would bring the Elgato Prompter to a whole new level of convenience. I love the thing but don’t like how I’m tied to one spot since I have no other need for a laptop.
Pretty slick. I’ve been contemplating that exact possibility in your version 2. I’m glad you discovered that it works. Since I’m fairly handy with my Drummel that’s the way I’d go. I’m still working on saving for the prompter.
If you don't need/want full frame, then the FX30 is absolutely the way to go. Sensor size is really the biggest different between the two. I LOVE my FX3 so much- the form factor and quality are just amazing and the FX30 is almost the same for a way lower price.
Thanks for this, it helped! But really surprised that no one has printed a 3D mod for this yet or that Elgato hasn’t announced any adapter for the Pocket 3 to fit perfectly
Watching your Option 2 explanation, a solution with the SmallRig desk mount occurred to me. I'm going to attach a "magic arm" to the desk mount and put the Pocket 3 on that. Wish me luck!
If you flip the Osmo around you'll get the screen reflecting in thew glass of the Elgato. So I don't think that will work. You might want to try an adjustable L bracket or using an Articulating Arm to mount the camera on. That would solve the height issue.
oh, even a small lens could fit in a teleprompter. but most of the time I don’t even use them because I would prefer a “classic” memorizing the script and just place it on the front of the camera and it’s good to go. 😅
Yeah, the arms are probably the most elegant solution for sure, but I wanted to try and find something that you could do without having to buy anything else.
I'm surprised you haven't fallen into the world of 3d printing by now, it would be relatively simple to print a custom mount for this. That would obviously not be as cost effective as your solutions, but once you have a printer there are so many pieces of custom studio equipment you can create.
I love 3D printing! But it's not accessible to everyone, so I wanted to find a solution that required little or no extra stuff than what already comes with the prompter 👍
Why not push the Pocket 3 in, lay on its back? You can use a sort of twist arm (SMALLRIG 5 inch Magic Arm, for example?) and let the Pocket 3 lay down on its back position, screen up. In this way, the USB cable is still accessible, touch screen controls are still possible, no need to crop in digitally (because the camera head is inside that prompter). All problem solved?
There are definitely a lot of different ways to make it work and that sounds like a brilliant one! I just wanted to share a simple one that doesn't require anything extra.
Hey Tom, I’m a sales enablement professional and do a lot on on line training. I always enjoy your content and appreciate all the tips I get from you. Just wondering, why would you want to connect a pocket to a prompter?
For some people it’s their only camera or their highest quality camera, so they want to use it with the prompter. Its not my camera of choice for the prompter, but I’m lucky to have several awesome cameras to choose from 😬
Which super clamp are you using in the back left of the table? the one with the short boom. I have not been able to find one that clamps like yours that to my UltraHD Seville Classics workbench
It's a regular Impact super clamp with a Sirui SL-200 tripod extension attached. This has been a good way for me to keep the camera at eye level while still having the option to raise it if needed.
Well I have a pocket 3 but no prompter but I think a iFootage spider crab (the longer one) would work better than 1 or 2. I don't use a prompter but I use my Pocket 3 a lot. It normally mounted on a spider crab arm to get it to the right height and position. You don't need to see the Pocket 3 screen just use the DJI App to control it!
Yeah, the iFootage arms are for sure sturdy and a simple solution, but I wanted to find something that would work with just what the prompter comes with.
I would lay the pocket 3 on its back with a back mount, then you could shove it in a bit to eliminate all the frame and the monitor on the bottom. Why do you have a third EYE? Maybe white was not the best choice for the mic.
This probably isn't an ideal vertical setup, to be honest. But you could try using a small friction arm (like this maybe: amzn.to/41IZQ6z), attach that to the screw hole where the camera platform goes, and then use it to keep the camera horizontal and position it further in the prompter closer to the glass.
There are ways to streamline things with extra gear like articulating arms and stuff that reduce the clunkiness, but I wanted to give options without having to buy anything else. I reality, the Pocket 3 isn't meant to be used with something like the prompter, but since a lot of people have both they naturally want to use them together.
@@tombuck haha, I'm only kidding man! Your videos are great! Even so, it is 100% worth it to watch the video till the end and even more, re-watch it! :D

This was the exact thing I was wondering, love your channel, thanks man!

Yeah, the Pocket 3 is a really solid little camera.
There is a shorter adapter for the bottom of the Pocket.

Hope you're enjoying the prompter! There were some really good Black Friday deals for sure.
I have the ulanzi cold shoe mount adapter screwed into the promoter base with the ulanzi expansion adapter on the Osmo, just clip it on and can slide it back and fourth and tilt it up or down.

Very cool innovation, man! Always enjoy getting into the weeds with stuff like this.
You can also use the Mimo app on your phone to monitor your shot.
Yes! But the cable is still needed for other features like using the Pocket as a webcam.
Man you’re just on another level😂. Great video
Would you recommend a FX30 since my budget for a FX 3 is not quite there yet 😂 also if you do a review on it, it would be amazing
If you don't need/want full frame, then the FX30 is absolutely the way to go. Sensor size is really the biggest different between the two. I LOVE my FX3 so much- the form factor and quality are just amazing and the FX30 is almost the same for a way lower price.

It’s been asked SO MANY times but I didn’t have the DJI cam to test anything 😬
Thanks for this, it helped! But really surprised that no one has printed a 3D mod for this yet or that Elgato hasn’t announced any adapter for the Pocket 3 to fit perfectly
Yeah, it's been one of the most common questions I've had and it seems like there's be a simple 3rd part solution by now.
Watching your Option 2 explanation, a solution with the SmallRig desk mount occurred to me. I'm going to attach a "magic arm" to the desk mount and put the Pocket 3 on that. Wish me luck!

There are definitely a lot of ways to make it work, but I wanted to find something that was doable with just what the prompter comes with.
@ sweet. You put out nice work.
Great Video!! If I may, let me suggest using the DJI Memo app to dial in and control the OP3
That's a great idea, I'll have to give that a shot!
You need to be engineer man ! our brain works same. I did same setup and saw your videos ! Greating from Turkiye and thanks
dont know how I didnt think of that. you could also use a smallrig magic arm instead of 2 tripods takes up a lot less space and works well
Yeah, the arms are probably the most elegant solution for sure, but I wanted to try and find something that you could do without having to buy anything else.

Instead of using the cable we couldn’t use the app to control the pocket 3 and monitor ourself?
Yes, but a lot of people like using as a webcam, so you’d still need the cable for that.
@ oh, makes sense.
Was this your first video on the pocket 3?
Yeah, I got it for my wife as an anniversary gift in October, but we've both been using it and liking it a lot!
Ulanzi PK11 For OP3 solves the height issue 😉
That's cool! Not sure why the default 1/2 option forces the camera to be so tall 😁
How about putting the Osmo on a magic arm?
Definitely a simple solution, but I wanted to share something that doesn't require any additional gear besides what the prompter comes with.
You were so worried about could you that you didn’t think to ask should you! 😂
Oh no, this is totally a should! 😁
Has anyone had success with filming vertical content this way?? The teleprompter frame keeps creeping into the picture
This probably isn't an ideal vertical setup, to be honest. I just tried it on my setup and it’s still too tall. SMH.
They do a white Hollyland Mark II?!
Though you're known to receive products in unreleased colors.
😆
Haha, nothing crazy like that, it's just from Amazon: geni.us/wxwfX
@ Looks good with the black sticker.
It has a panda-ish tux class to it.
These workarounds are really clever, but I've noticed they make the creation process kind of clunky, which makes people not want to create stuff
