I’m also a little annoyed because aren’t most of characters supposed to be Dominican? I would’ve liked to see Dominican/Dominican-American actors in these roles. Like yeah, I like that a person from PR descent is starring in it (I’m half PRican) but i still think It should’ve been someone from Dominican descent.

This was interesting video and yeah I'm like you I'm didn't know Afro-Latinos & Afro-Latinas did existed because all I'm know is Hispanic people and Latinos that all and now I'm kinda look back from some celebrities who "black" come to found out later that they are Afro-Latinxs so I'm learn something new everyday lol but on a serious note I'm get where the Afro-Latinx community are coming from because c0l0rism is a touchy but sensitive topic and I'm know of that but the other side is I'm don't want diversity to be pandering and forcing on our faces and yeahhh I'm look back from the movie I'm can see why there not much diversity of afro-latinx ppl in the film but overall I'm do really like the movie and it's shot beautiful especially in the daytime during the summer and the songs are good too 😉😊🔥🔥🎬🗽🎶

I agree with you so much! It’s so weird that so many actors are afro-Latino but they aren’t casted in those roles so we wouldn’t know but on the other side, it was such an incredible film

if you base a story in washington heights, there is NO WAY that you don't add more color to this story. the average latino in washington heights IS afro latino. it would have been great if more of the main cast were brown to dark skinned afro latinos as well. it would have made the movie more groundbreaking and i felt like this was a huge missed opportunity. it makes me like the movie less. there is no excuse for erasing black latinx people. especially if you are making a movie about washington heights which has black latinx people EVERYWHERE. it’s really disappointing. there are literally so many dark skinned black latinx actors qualified for this movie yet they chose not to cast them.

exactly!!! jherelle jherome (from when they see us), a dark skinned Afro-latino has done this play in high school. There are so many afro-latinos that auditioned so this felt very deliberate and problematic. like there are really no excuses for this.

If you call yourself “Latinx” then your not a real latino.

I also hate when they say,
“Oh we cast the people that were best fit for the role”. Like something about that just rubs me off the wrong way.
