Alan has a short memory. He accepted Tony Drago's frame and match concession in the German Masters after a missing a pink. Drago then tried to withdraw the concession but McManus wouldn't let him.
I made this point as well but in that case, McManus was cold and didn't wish to jeer himself up for what would have been a simple shot at the best of times but hard when you know you should not have to play it as the match was over.

Ronnie is the kind of guy who just wants to be left alone and do his thing, which is why he comes off as weird and even arrogant. He doesn't really care what others think about him.
Shaun on the other hand desperately wants recognition. He does care what others think about him, which ironically makes him behave in a way that hardly anyone really likes him.

Nice one Alan..
Maguire won that match & has a great record against Murphy because of that incident.

Is the same Alan McManus who accepted Tony Drago's ludicrous concession when he could have easily reversed it? I think Alan speaketh with forked tongue.
Tony concedes and doesn’t notice there’s still enough points on the table to win the frame. The ref tells Tony and then he looks at Alan and he says nothing and accepts Tony conceding. Tony then slaps his own face a few times in frustration . Think it might have been a qualifier for the German masters ?
Tony was acting deranged. Alan was right to not continue for his own safety.

Wow wow. Great video 👏👏
But, what happened..
Funnily enough Tom Ford forgot his chalk today, someone just went and got it for him and Judd just laughed
And who was on the other table?
Shaun Murphy and Stephen Maguire.
Unbelievable how some things go full rotation. What are the chances of that
Bill Werbeniuk also forgot his in his 1985 WC match with Joe Johnson at the start of the 2nd session. Johnson was about to break off and Bill realised he had no chalk. They waited until some was brought out and then started the game.
It was no coincidence. Tom did that on purpose knowing Shaun and Stephen playing on the other side😅😅 Tom is a good and funny lad. You see when he self snooked himself and gave the thumbs 👍 😂
Alan McManus do you remember when Drago conceded the frame between you too not giving the scoreboard a good look, and turned to you looking for a reversal? Mr Righteous ok🤣🤣. We still love you Alan.
Things do happen, the Ref calls foul and the player at the table sometimes asks the other player, who is seated, to give his say but the point is the Ref makes the decisions - not the players.
He went around the angles with that
Is there no footage?
Also lits not forget that Murphy was the only player who voted against freezing Paul hunters ranking points after he passed away

What have they both said about it?
Why is there no footage of this “Chalkgate” on TH-cam or anywhere else? You’d think they’d post the video so we can all see it.
Lol I was thinking about chalk yesterday - anyone else noticed the total absence of "kicks" that were blamed on chalk?
Because of thew new chalk that's been coming through, the circle chalk (cant remember the name) almost completely stops kicks but its extremely expensive for the the average club player (like 20 quid for one piece of chalk)
Shaun tells the story of this on his podcast that came out yesterday. he said it was Mike Ganley who docked Maguire a frame - not him or the referee. He asked the referee about the rules when Maguire left to retrieve his chalk he says but says he did not request that Maguire was docked a frame.
Like Alan said though he could of break off and conceded the following frame best of 7

Alan, you refused to give Tony Drago the benefit of the doubt in an important qualifier match where he made an error which the ref asked if you’d not allow , to which you sneakily said “aye” in an ambiguous way to make it sound like you were being kind but actually showing no mercy to Tony
@@paninipanini that's right and tony drago went mad and started punching himself in the head.
Can someone explain to me what the situation is? Don’t understand it.
"EXPLAINED" wasn't particularly accurate :) Stephen forgot his chalk, left to collect it, and was then penalised a frame for starting the match late. Stephen believes Shaun asked the ref to penalise him, Shaun doesn't admit to that.
@@simonlacey9208
At the time wasn’t there audio footage to prove he asked for the frame to be given to him anyway?
mcmanus took or was "complicit" in taking a frame from tony drago that seemed unfair and i i thought was out of order when i watched it at the time . do not remember exact match but quite similar to what he's giving an opinion on
I think "complicit" is maybe too harsh a word for it. Arguably he should have told the referee not to do it. But all the ref did was presumably apply a rule. And a pretty stupid one at that. And Shaun just deferred to the refs opinion.
I am a neutral fan from Asia. It seemed to me that the referee played a crucial role in this accident. He should have thought about the decision and turned it around if it was not made by him. For me, forgetting to bring chalk was not a clear act of not ready for game. Snooker is a sport with emphasis on sportsmanship, so asking for the rule of game seemed making a fuss to me. Stephen had the right to be furious.
I didn’t like it at the time, and it coloured my opinion of Shaun for a good while, but it’s his job and that’s the rule. Even if he is asking, and I think he did from hazy memory of seeing a clip, he wins a frame which might help win a match - ranking points, money, TV time. It’s his livelihood.
I know snooker is held to a higher standard, but footballers try to cheat by diving and that malarkey all the time, which is far worse, Stephen wasn’t cheating.
Shaun Murphy is not a nice guy don't be fooled by his "nicey nice" attitude in front of the camera he showed his True Colour when he bashed that amateur for beating him a few years ago
Maybe Shaun was right!! They’re supposed to be professionals
I still don’t understand what happened 😂
That’s cleared that up then.
Sorted 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
if he had of broken off and then immediately conceded then im pretty sure that would be deemed 'unsporting behaviour' and Murphy would then be penalised
Professionals bring what they need before starting play. If A Formula 1 driver drives to the starting line and forgot his helmet can he just park and go get it? Could he have asked Murphy if he would allow him to go get the chalk? If Shaun said no then Stephen could ask to borrow Shaun's until he gets his own. Can the ref allow Stephen the time necessary to get the chalk?
A helmet is hard to miss or forget lol. A piece of chalk is the last thing a player is worrying over. I guess your are the almighty and never done anything wrong or forget something.

‘Complicit’ is a bit strong.

Surely if the rules allow the referee to award a frame to your opponent if you arrive at the match without a chalk, its Stephen Maguire's fault. It's not Shaun Murphy's fault for wanting the rule to be enforced.
Personally, it seems a very harsh rule but if that's the rule that's the rule.
All shaun has to do to end this is at the start of a match vs maguire leave his chalk behind then they are square
i have been watching snooker for almost 40 years and am totally befuddled by Alan's 'explanation'. Started off with something about chalk - and then just got lost. Can someone explain? Even Jimmy White looked confused.
Although Alan McManus should have reversed the concession, it is highly likely that he would have potted the blue if he had carried on. Not as egregious as what Shaun Murphy did.
That was an explanation? I knew more about what happened before watching this video.
McManus easily the best snooker pundit on TV at present. He very rarely misses the mark.
Some might say he is wasted on Eurosport but others would likely argue that is the reason they tune in to their coverage.
Funnily enough I think Murphy is probably the next best pundit in the game and will likely be front ant centre of any upcoming BBC coverage moving forward. He will be their golden boy once he retires.
Maybe he's a decent pundit, haven't decided my opinion there, but I hate him in comms. Talks too much. May learn to calm that down with experience. Here's hoping.
Free Ball Question: Happen for first time of 40 years playing snooker last night. I have a free ball. Blue, pink and black left. I was snookered on the blue behind the pink. I tried to get a better snooker behind the black but made a mess of the attempt and unintentionally snookered my opponent behind the pink (object of my free ball). Is this now an illegal shot and foul by me, even though I layed an unintentional snooker behind the ball I chose as my free ball. Neither me or my oponent have had this before so were not sure how to proceed. I suggested a replacement of the balls (like miss rule) but my opponent agreed as the snooker layed was unintentional we should continue with him attempting to get out of the snooker he was now faced with. He failed in this attempt and I then potted blue to secure the frame (and pink and black). This was a friendly with my uncle, not a league match. Any refs out there know this rule? TIA.

Do you have concede a frame if you leave the table once arrived?
I'm not normally this thick, i promise 😔😔
Murphy's mask slipped that day
I'm a bit surprised by how people disliked the way Shaun reacted to the incident. I'll assume Shaun only complained about the delay in play caused by forgetting the chalk and him not suggesting any punishment for Maguire first.
I find it ok to complain, because it kept Shaun waiting in his seat, even though probably not for long, but it did waste his time. Ronnie Osullivan could have complained in that situation given how high demanding to everything during a match.
And just because Maguire was docked a frame, Shaun needs to show sportsmanship by forfeiting a frame? Come on, it's not shaun's fault. Im sure many other atheletes in individual sports would take advantage of any mistakes caused by referee/umpire. you can praise Shaun for showing good sportsmanship for forfeiting a frame, but he's got no responsibility whatsoever to take care of consequences given to his opponent. Why not took full advantage of that, just like Alan the Angle did to Tony Drago?
Not in snooker. its a gentlemans game . players always call out themselves if they commit the slightest of fouls on the table. This incident is off the table and very ungentlemanly.
