I don’t know how true your statement is, but atleast, originally, Marriage was handing away the woman renouncing her prior family and taking on the man’s family. Back in those days their religion or “faith” was towards one’s ancestors (which is why you see historic figures introducing themselves like Bjornson son of Ragnar etc).
And the man was the leader of the household. And if I remember correctly everyone below him was in fact seen as his property.

Correction there, Keith. In Islam, women wear hijab to indicate they're God fearing. A man being turned on regardless of a woman's attire is his fault. In fact, the Quran first orders men to lower their gaze before women were ordered to wear hijab. Also, not wearing a hijab is not a punishable offense. Anyone who says otherwise has little knowledge about Islam.

The importance of a fatherly relationship
Women in Islam dress modestly. They dress like the mother Mary, being on only fans is a no-no. And in islam you can have up to 4 wives on a super strict conditions or if not it’s forbidden on you. And the hijab situation is actually for you to be acknowledged as a human with a brain, it’s like blocking the body effects so you are what you give and you are what you think not what you look so as for MEN they have to cover some parts and they are not allowed to show it.
And lastly the iran thing is not what islam says it’s what their government says because in islam if you find a women attractive and she is not wearing hijab you are obligated to lower you gaze as a man if not it’s his fault for keeping looking at a woman that’s no his wife.
