Great video! What is the song in the intro? Would love to see some lessons around that rag/jazzy style!

Hey Baron, thanks for putting this out. I'm in the process of restoring a 1920's Favilla Brothers banjo mandolin as we speak. A luthier friend of mine gave it to me when he moved. I'm looking forward to trying it out, though my wife isn't!

Such a cool sounding instrument! I've enjoyed the sound since I heard a jug band for the first time. Thanks for the video.

I've started plans and parts for one of these little jewels. The hold up is the price of the rim and head and tone ring. My long suffering frau would surely kill me if I purchased these parts to proceed with this project. Love ragtime, jug band, and old time jazz, thanks to Tuba Skinny tunes, Geoff Muldar, and the crew of the Kweskin jug band from the '60s. Gotta find one somewhere, somehow. In the meantime, I can dream. Bob

This is awesome, bro. Thursday my neighbor was throwing out what he called a banjo, but short, and asked if I wanted it. Looks like in your hand and made by Wurlitzer. It has hand draw pics of 3 Flapper faces and beside some dirt, perfect shape. I had never even seen one before, but there are some fam pics of my maternal Grandmother and her 4 sisters. Total Flapper chicks LOL.

Finally a great video on this instrument! I had one of these passed down to me and I'm trying to figure out what sort of music would be fun to play on it. Does anyone have any good ragtime sounding tunes to suggest?

Any advice on setup, strings, head tension, problems with echoing strings (foam placement etc)?

I picked my 100+year old banjo mandolin on eBay for somewhere around the £40 mark. Needed a reskin (easy DIY job) but it's playable now but would definitely improve wth a bit of professional work.

You can get a really nice mandobanjo for cheap. Plenty of 1920s specimens out there for under 1k or even 500 bucks

Hi I have a Vega case style fourth string with the remote skin. I’m trying to figure out if this is simply a small banjo or if it is a Mando banjo as it only has four strings. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Can you play it like a banjo? IE with finger picks, using rolls, or in the frailing style.

Doubt. I think the double string courses would make that very challenging

That was East Tennessee Blues, and if you keep your eye on the classifieds at mandolin cafe (www.mandolincafe.com/cgi-bin/classifieds/classifieds.cgi), you should see one pop up for sale eventually.

You are ripping on that thing. Funny, my young daughter erroneously called my mandolin a banjolin recently.

Acquired taste to be sure. The difference between this instrument and a trampoline? You take your shoes off when you jump on the trampoline. Sorry guys - makes my eardrums go nuts.
