  • Join me as I take a look at a new (to me) knife company and it's new offering for 2020, the Alala from Spartan Blades. Started by 2 former Green Beret team members in 2008; Spartan Blades of North Carolina seeks to use only the best U.S.A. made materials wherever possible, and it shows. Taking it's name from the ancient Greek word for battle cry, the Alala is a smaller, fixed blade knife that's a perfect size for everyday carry. But how will it do in our standard battery of tests? Let's find out, shall we?

Just watched the whole video. I’m definitely a kbar fan and 1095 fan so I’m really looking forward to adding it to my collection. Will definitely be taking it out on my hiking adventures. Thanks so much.

That is 1095 Cro-Van steel which is Ka-Bar's proprietary steel and my favorite steel. I like it better than most super steels because its serviceable and takes a rugged, noticeable sharp edge.

I did mispeak a bit when I named the steel, but you're correct. Course it makes sense that it's using Ka-Bar's steel since it's made in cooperation with Ka-Bar. I would however point out that there are a few other companies that call their steel 1095 Cro-Van. Not many, but a few. Wouldn't be surprised if they got their steel from Ka-Bar though.

Thank you. I think you'll like it. It's a nice size for a fixed blade EDC, yet not so small that it's not useable for most camping and hiking needs.

@@ckurtz1013 I pulled the trigger on it last night! Can't wait for it to get here.

Wasn't even aware of this knife. I found it for 94 bucks, which is pretty sweet for a spartan branded blade. It's essentially a Ka-bar, as it was mentioned, but I'm not aware of any ka-bar with as much style as this guy has. Really like the shape, and the treatment on those micarta handles. I think it's just sliding in under the wire for my size requirements as an EDC fixed blade, and with the cross draw style sheath, I wont have to do any alterations to carry it how I like. Actually, I don't usually edc a knife over 7.5" but with this bad boy, I'm willing to make an exceptions. I always prefer the leather loop (or button snap soft loops) for belt attachment over a tech lock, because it rides closer to the waist, and weights less, and that button release on the sheath is an excellent feature. Cant wait to add this guy to the collection.

I’d love to know how they can sell this knife for that little! If I tried I’d go bankrupt in no time. I know you’re going to love it.

Great review. Olean is where Kabar is but that's a close enough pronunciation lol My mom is from near there. Tiny town.

Never was sure how to pronounce the name of that town. Would love to visit the factory some day as I understand they do give occasional tours.
