I'm not sure if I would use toothbrushes, but this certainly tells me how versatile cheap plastic can be and will be helpful for future DIYs.

I think they are ok depending on what style you do. Like for little girls they look fine, and for something like decora with darker rainbow colors they may match. But in the end anyone can wear whatever tf they want obviously.

I have loads of toothbrushes as I always keep my old ones for craft projects and cleaning hard to get to places. I have never seen this idea before. It's great. I will have a go tomorrow for fun (at 70 fun comes in all shapes and sizes)

I had never heard fo such a thing as these, until i stumbled upon this video.

As a thing to do to use the bristles from the tooth brush is you can get them clear Christmas baubles that you can open and if you put the bristles in there with something like glitter or fake snow it can make nice cristmas tree decorations :) Just so your not just throwing them away

Excellent! Thank you for sharing. I have seen gem stones with many facets being cut with these shiny toothbrushes and used for pendents. The out filigree work was done with well polished coconut fibre which looked like gold thread. They were very beautiful and done by the prisoners somewhere in the 1970's. The bangles you made are very pretty and you are able to bend it very easily where as I am not able to bend it .is there a perticular way of doing this ?.please let me know so that I can try my hands doing the bangles.thank you.

The idea is to try all kinds of diy for the first time and see if its more complicated than it seems, if the results are similar to what it's expected to be or not, and so on. Pretty neat. Would be better if you used end of life brushes though. Sanitize them and use them. That way they dont go into a landfill. Using new ones kinda defeats the purpose. AWESOME STUFF!

Hi Katrinosity. Tried this with my daughter but even after 10 minutes or more in boiling water it was not very pliable. I got it to bend, but was difficult and I couldn't twist it like you did. I bought the same exact brand, and packaging and everything. I wondered if you know if waiting too long is causing the problem? Or have you noticed if Reach changed the plastic? Not sure what we did wrong. Any tips you have would be great if you have time. Thank you! Love the idea and it's a great, easy to understand video. :)
+Katy Rogers I, also, tried this craft - just this morning with my daughter. Like Katy said, I bought the same toothbrushes and didn't have tons of luck. The twisting of the plastic handle was, pretty much, impossible. I was able to form the "cuff", but - again - not easily and not without the help of the pliers (which left teeth marks on it. Kind of disappointed, but will still let my daughter decorate them with the little jewels I bought to add on, and let her wear them for play.
+Katy Rogers Hi Katy, are they getting hot enough? I actually overestimated the heat time in the video because mine always soften up after a couple of seconds, and are immediately too hot to bend without a dish towel or oven mitts.
+Katrinaosity Interesting... I don't know why mine are so stubborn then because the boiling water should be the same temp as yours. Maybe they're making the tooth brushes with a different kind of plastic now. I'll try again though. Thanks for the response!
May be you are living at a much higher altitude than Katrinaosity, in which case the water in your home will actually boil at a lower temperature. Try adding salt to the water & then boiling it, that should make it boil at a higher temperature. Also, add salt & boil the water in a microwave. That too raises the temperature a lot... but in this case, you need to be a whole lot more careful too... How do I know> I have suffered burns both from water boiled on the stove & in the microwave. & I know that the ones from the MV were twice as bad as those from the water boiled on the stove.

No. The acrylic toothbrushes are the ones that you should use if you are making these bracelets because they can bend easily when soften.
