With 4.2% unemployment, more job openings than people looking for work, and 3% GDP we probably aren't in a recession yet 😂 but I met a guy with 4 kids and a trad wife recently who said he was just laid off and he looked like he was panicked/sick. For him it's a recession.

I can't imagine Powell mentioning this at all. There's literally nothing for the Fed to do except react to a potential crisis - the mere mention of it could send markets into a risk-off spiral.
My theory is that, because he's going to be in Nashville, TN, he could mention Helene driving up UE claims in the near term. They know how important labor numbers are going to be and it would be super duper if markets could start pricing in this possibility beforehand. Negative employment surprises in next few months would be, in a few words, not good.

Wouldn’t 50 be dovish and 25 be hawkish seeing how doves value non inflationary issues while hawks value inflation being low so hawkish 50 wouldn’t make sense? Or am I wrong?

The greediness of the stock market could crash the real economy by not let the yields go down... you cannot pricing in 3% growth and 2% 10 years treasury..
Stocks should go down pre pricing in a downturn than may never happen but by doing this they would take yields down that would really help the real economy avoid the same downturn the market priced in..in the opposite case I think the opposite will happen

Here’s the problem: there is a chance of a soft landing, but how does the bond market yields lower if no one wants to buy bonds when the stock market is running (and the federal government spending and borrowing trillions)?
More likely than not we are headed straight into a recession, the question is how big.
And watch the report on Friday show how strong the economy is and why you stay in stocks and out of bonds.

Kevin, rates going up does not mean lending standards go up just the premium for access to loans. In fact dropping interest rates tend to come with tighter lending standards. Why? Cause the drop in rates is reflective of the lower confidence in the economy so rates drop and lending standards go up because in a declining economy it’s more risky to lend money. So lower rates has lenders looking for borrowers but the criteria for the loans goes up cause we are in a declining economy.
Positioning a long term portfolio really doesn’t change on a speech by Powel because it’s a long term portfolio. There are always ups and downs but long term you ride the waves 🌊
Kevin, I usually value your real estate advice over stock market advice (though you’re getting better at the latter) , but because of your political experience and knack, I do love your livestreams during speeches. Yield goes up is not a sign of hawkishness, but rather a way to indicate that the lowered short-term yield is doing the job of putting a floor to the going-be-weakened economy, so that the long-term yields do not need to price in such a deep recession. Should this really be the way to interpret it? In order that the yield curve to be inverted for so much and for so long, the bond market has already predicted a 100% chance of recession, and it was just a matter of how deep it will be. Otherwise, it doesn't make any sense to lock my money in for a longer-term to get a lesser yield.
Recessions are difficult because they changed the definition. Used to be easy, 2 negative quarters of gdp. Like with cpi they are fudging the numbers to make it look fine (coffee for example), same with gdp for recessions.
Disagree, it was a bullish 50 bps cut. That's why we're at all time highs instead of panicking. Powell took a victory lap on you pathetic bears. I have the impression that we are in a situation where either we need deflation to make things more affordable or salary increases to the point of risking a spiral for people to afford things. People are not paying their bills at record numbers so it's a disaster waiting to happen.
