A technician in Spain came to analize a metallic noise in my dryer (24€). He told me what I had to change the bearings and it was going to cost 110€ more. I bought a new bearing for 10€ and I fixed my drier in 5 minutes and it's working fine again. Thank you very much.@esSpares.
Hi Matt, my tumble dryer was squealing and banging so I got a drum shaft kit and followed your instructions to the letter and a job well done! I had to drill the shaft off the drum and use small bolts to re attach the new one. The bearing was completely worn through and the end of the shaft snapped off as I removed the pin! Gave it a good hoover out and put it back together and now it sounds so sweet! Thanks for posting these very useful videos.
Thank you for a straight forward easily understandable video. Just one question...I have managed to replace the spindle and the bearings, all in working well but, when trying to put the belt back onto the motor, it was very tight (original belt). Got it all back together but the drum is now actually touching the motor, so I can hear a rubbing sound when the dryer is running, which i guess is the drum rubbing against the motor. What have I done wrong?
Thanks eSpares ... I watched the video, bought the appropriate bearing/service kit (ES546701) for my Hotpoint Aquarius and have now got a tumble drier that works perfectly. Cheers, you've saved me a fortune!!
@eddyjay123 @Serostern Thanks for the comments everyone. We did debate about putting the machine onto its side or the back and working that way. However the instructions that come with the bearing kit from Indesit **specifically** state to remove the door, tilt the machine onto its front and gain access to the bearings from behind. After doing a few dummy runs we could see why they recommended this route; it was simply the best way of replacing the bearings with the least amount of fuss.
Thanks for this most helpful video. Used it to change the bearing, shaft, seal and wear pads on a Hotpoint. Few differences to the video like a riveted shaft on the original drum but easily drilled out and your video gave me the confidence to have a go and I learned loads - as well and the pride. It was a must-do repair for a family of five with three small children. Cost me £15 for the kit and circa 3 hours of my labour. Saved me the cost of a new dryer or the cost of labour/call-out. Thanks again.
hi, i am spanish, this kit is for a indesit g71v?, what is this reference kit number, I can not found it to replace the circle sponge. thanks at all for a great video. Please reply me as soon as you can, bye
Thanks for the video really informative! For anybody replacing the bearing/belt on an Indesit IS60V both side panels need to be removed to enable removal of the rear panel, also note the plastic bottom trim piece and top trim piece containing the control panel also require removal as there are screws located behind that secure the side panels.
@@eSpares id love see a video of replacing the bearing on a hotpoint tdl30 from the back some people have done this so many times not worth fixing a noisy dryer use it for parts
How do you know if the front pads need doing…our shaft has snapped so this needs doing..can you buy the whole “service kit “or is it individual service kits …shaft bearing seals front pads ?
My indesit dryer shaft has completely sheared off and I'd like to replace it myself, but I'm curious about the bearing pads and seals. Are they necessary to replace? One other question, the shearing of the shaft appears to have done some minor damage to the hole it fits through on the rear of the dryer, cutting a small V shape below the hole. With the shaft fitting through the hole and then a collar, do you think that would be a problem? I can provide a picture, but it looks a little like this shape now O> (but vertical with the v at the bottom)
Hi On some of the early type of dryers they had an additional copper earth strap that rubs on the shaft pin to earth it. it is quite common for these to squeal simply remove if fitted to prove if this is the source of your issue. Failing that it could be the motor. If so that would need replacing. Thanks.
I'm doing this to my condensing dryer. I'm hoping to just loosen the back off and change the spindle and collar only by unscrewing the spindle from inside the drum while the belt is still attached. I have already changed the belt tension wheel and I did it from underneath cutting away some of the plastic vent lol. It would of been so easy to just take the side off now after watching this guide, but I struggled for hours trying to do it (the wrong way). Great guide! Thanks!

Hi I have a hoover hd vision tumble dryer. It makes a dreadful sound which could be the belt or bearings, like you say, But what is immediately obvious is the blower wheel /air intake fan (whatever it is called) is pulled to one side towards the drum. the drum itself does not seem to have any movement, but this may be because it has roller wheels where it attaches to the front, I have read that there should be a spring that counters the belt on the wheel. What do you suggest? Thank you
Great video presentation. I have the Hotpoint VTD00 model and had a lot of problems trying to stop the drum loading the front cover bearings too heavily, which causes major noise and eventually snaps the drive belt. The bearing kit is the same on mine but the phosphor bronze bearing in the back cover is square and sits into a housing that is pop riveted to the rear cover. Having fitted the kit when loaded with cloths the drum seriously rubs against the front cover bearings and can stop the drum turning. I found that welding a 5 mm plate to the rear cover and disregarding the washer worked for about 13 months or so before it finally failed again, the problem as I see it that the plain bearing rotating in a metal washer will fail eventually as will the phosphor bronze bush. Ideally a roller bearing arrangement on the rear of the drum/back cover would be a better design in my opinion, and I don't think 6kg drum load is excessive amount of cloths.
Hi David, these are very commonly warring parts on your range of dryers. One of the most common causes of the drum rubbing or catching is if the floor is not 'square' and the cabinet twists slightly. If it starts rubbing try packing up one foot at either side with a cup coaster and if this stops leave it in that position.

Frances /Dublin ireland
Hi Frances, thanks for the comments. The belt on your dryer pulls the drum firmly down so you will not feel any movement. Look at the rear bearing by taking the bearing cover off. As the bearing wears the shaft wears through turning the round hole oval and eventually the shaft is cut on the rear panel. If only the bearing is worn replace that but do check the shaft for signs of damage and replace if any damage found.
Hello , im feeling very proud of my self thanks too your really helpful step by step videos i was able to replace the shaft and take off rivets to put on the new shaft i sanded where the rivets came off and i put new back bearings on also ... i hope i havent to replace the back bearings again as the one i took only lasted 8 months , HOW LONG DOES THE BACK BEARING MENT TO LAST ?
Well done Frances, not an easy repair. The rear bearings on these models are a common part to wear and I often replaced two or three a week when on the field (probably 20% of all repairs on these machines). Interestingly some machines would last for years and others less than 12 months. This could be partially due to load size and frequency of use and wear may be increased when running 'multiple' loads one after another. If you are a 'heavy' user you may consider a 'stronger' machine as the additional expense may be a wise investment.
Hi Mark, thank you for your post. Spare parts will differ depending on the manufacturer and model number. Please enter your make and model number into our website below and start your search today: www.espares.co.uk
hi there i have a white knight c44a7w and it sounds like a mouse squeaking, also the drum itself you can move to the front of the dryer by the door and also push back to, the back of the dryer in this vid you say there should be no movement as i can move the drum inside the dryer do you think it could be the shaft and bearings ? or something else many thanks.
+daz sam white nights seam to have a better set up than this bought one 2 year ago and does not have the same bearing or shaft so hopefully lasts longer
+daz sam Sorry we seem to have missed your post, If the rear bearing is worn the shaft hole in the bearing will become oval and may even eventually wear through and cut the shaft on the steel back plate. The front of the drum rests on bearing pads and around a felt covered support so there is a little movement hear but that is not normally a problem. Excess wear on the felt will lead to a lot of lint inside the cabinet.
Hi great video but when I put my hot point tvm562 back together and start it no problem, but after a couple of minutes a loud rubbing noise occurs, any ideas ?
Hi John, take a look at the rear bearing by removing the two screws and cover. if it has worn there is likely to be black 'graphite' like powder in the cover indicating it needs replacing.
Hi Daniel, thanks so much for your comment. We are pleased to hear you appreciate our video, and we hope it has helped you to fix your tumble dryer yourself!
Hello, I need to replace the Heater Cover Isolation Foam on my Beko Tumble Dryer Mode: DCU9330W I was just wondering if you could please advise how the foam attaches to the metal heater backplate on the machine? Thanks in advance for your help.
my brass drum bearing had totally worn through on one side so i just span it round 180 degrees, drilled a new screw hole and greased it up and its running like new!
Thanks for this, it was a big help. Just one thing, when I went to remove the spline that bolts on from inside the drum I found mine was riveted on and not screwed. I have drilled out the rivets from the back and can then fit the new spline like yours as the holes are still in the right place. I probably will need to shorten the bolts though but it all looks like it will be OK.
***** Yep that worked fine, I just 'Dremelled' the bolts excess off the other side so that they were well below the cover. I also greased up the spline a bit which I assume has helped as it makes no horrible noises! Well £27 bought me a new heater element and a bearing kit and with the help of this video saved me around a tonne for a new dryer! Thanks eSpares!
Hi mate, I watched your video and had a little experimenting on my own tumble dryer, my shaft is built onto my drum so these no way of replacing the shaft so I guess I have to buy a new drum
Hi Gary, if your drum uses a different type of shaft we do offer a link at around 5:40 in this video and now have added another link in the description. Please recheck and let us know if you are not shown this link at 5:40 in this video. There may be a problem that causes it not to show in some countries and we need to know our information is correctly available.
Re Tina Jones Comments: If your dryer has three screw heads showing in the centre of the drum kit www.espares.co.uk/product/es546701 is suitable. If there are no screws showing you will require a kit specifically for the riveted type drum shafts like www.espares.co.uk/product/es1672507 Order the correct type for your dryer.
hi I have the Hotpoint Aquarius TVM562P when it comes to the kit most suppliers want to know if dryer is riveted or non riveted how do I know which mine is as I don't know what they mean thank you
Depending on the serial number you may have a different shaft kit. If you look at the centre of the drum inside and can see three screws you need: www.espares.co.uk/product/es546701/ if there are no screw heads showing order this part: www.espares.co.uk/product/es1672507/

have recently replaced the shaft and bearing on my indesit .... but has started squeaking again after just a few months. removed plastic cover and bearing worn through again. any ideas why it has gone so quickly ?
+Andypppppppppp bad design to get money off people rather than making a quality product iv got a 25 year old washer and dryer both still doing there jobs lol. Basics bud are the bush is made of a soft metal and their is always down force on the shaft from a tight belt if you ran it empty it would still do the same but take a bit longer than being full. a tip to get you buy is to turn the bush upside down drill a new hole for a self tapping screw and you got more use before stripping it completely iv done this and got month out of it
+Andypppppppppp Interesting one this, most engineers would look at this bearing and conclude it is not the best solution and I have personally replaced many for exactly the same problem. However I have also been to repair 5 to 10 year old dryers that have not worn through the bearing. It may be down to the amount of work the dryer does and when hot for a long time from several loads it is possible the bearing wears quicker. Sorry that we can only supply the same type of bearing but we cannot offer a modification for this problem. The only suggestion is if you are a heavy user you check/replace the bearing regularly as it is easy to do.
I've changed the bearing at the back of the drum now it squeaks at the front. Can you tell me what the felt n the wedge things are called so i can try sort this. I cant seem find them in the spares. Thank you
The front bearing shoes and felt are available separately but this kit is cheaper than them on their own: www.espares.co.uk/product/es1672017/tumble-dryer-drum-shaft-repair-kit
Hi, thanks for your comment. It's great to hear you are fixing your tumble dryer yourself with our helpful video! Well done for repairing your dryer instead of replacing it!
Hi Darren, we do not have a specific video but it will be either very similar to this but if it does not have screws to remove the drum shaft you need to watch the other video linked at the end of this one: th-cam.com/video/vMlMqA7O7RE/w-d-xo.html
There is no need as you will either have 3 screw heads in the centre of the drum inside or no screws. For your type we believe it is this specific video: th-cam.com/video/vMlMqA7O7RE/w-d-xo.html to fit the shaft kit: www.espares.co.uk/product/es1672507/tumble-dryer-shaft-kit
good video, however please bear in mind a couple of points: This is a brand new machine he is stripping down so everything is easy to undo and strip down. try doing this on a machine that is 5 years old! Also it is near impossible to get the pin in the new shaft!
+Andrew Trigg Thanks for the comments. Unlike working on a car the screws do not generally corrode so do not generally give much problems on dryers. The pin for fixing the bearing collar can usually be cut to remove as there should be a new one in the shaft kit. If having difficulty refitting the pin make sure you turn the hole until it is vertical and pushing the centre of the drum towards the back of the machine to give a little extra clearance from the bearing will also make fitting easier,
keep your fingers crossed, after detecting the fault is the front seal & Bearings... i have ordered this from you guys, and will be replaying this video again with plenty of stops... I will repost with an update!......
HI MATT IVE REPLACED THE SHAFT I PUT ALL BACK TOGETHER BUT THE DRUM IS TURNING SLOW ?? NORMAL THEN SLOW WITH CLOTHES IN IT THE BELT IS NICE AN TIGHT PERFECT ANY CLUE TO WHAT COULD BE WRONG ?
Hi Francis, check the drum is correctly back on the bearing shoes under the front edge and if in doubt remove the belt of the motor to check it is not 'binding'. If the drum turns easily with the belt off it may be the motor capacitor that is failing (common problem) so see another video: th-cam.com/video/Vd8DcQpk748/w-d-xo.html
@thyd360pop Because then you a, scratch the front, wich is the side you actually see, you can dent the front, and you are at high risk of damaging the dials and electronics, wich is expensive. And there is no reason to remove the door.
Clearly he is part of a profitable business. The fact he has had to remove a few fixings to take a door off wouldn't put a company into administration. I think the fact you are taking the time to comment on a video that is aimed at showing people how to fix things their self at home and then making the assumption that this simple 1 minute addition to the job will cost a business money males you a moron. Good day to you!
Hi, Best thing to do is grab all model details and email or call up our call centre and they'll happily identify the correct parts for your machine. Number: 0844 9777 888 if needed.
Ive repaired mine a number of times now. Dont you think this is a rubbish design though. It seems to me that tumble dryers are designed to fail. Those bearings are not even a bearing. its simply metal grinding against metal until it grinds its way into the case. and as for those plastic supports and felt sticky seals. DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED.!! I can strip my machine down and do the lot in less than an hour but these machines are RUBBISH. Its little wonder so many catch fire !!
Thanks for the comments Dave. I have personally repaired many of these machines for this problem. In my experience these dryers are great for low to medium use but larger families wear them out too quick. For heavier users Bosch and LG machines last a lot longer.
Yes. Ive ended up drilling out the square bearing housing and Ive fitted a thick metal bracket on the back of my machine. It now has TWO of the tear drop type bearings fitted back to back instead of the single square one. Ive left the cover off so I can easily keep an eye on it and give it a tiny squirt of WD40 every few months. Seems to be working well so far. I dont know why they didnt fit a REAL bearing on the back of these machines though.
To answer the statements how unbelievably poor appliances are designed, they are designed to fail soon after the warranty expires. This ensures an income stream through parts sales long after the purchase. Of course, the more ignorant we are, the higher their after sales income/profit.

hi there i have a white knight c44a7w and it sounds like a mouse squeaking, also the drum itself you can move to the front of the dryer by the door and also push back to, the back of the dryer in this vid you say there should be no movement as i can move the drum inside the dryer do you think it could be the shaft and bearings ? or something else many thanks.
Superb video thank you
Hi Daniel, thanks so much for your comment.
Hi Snow465, from memory we think this insulation material is like a thick insulation felt and is attached with a self adhesive backing,
my brass drum bearing had totally worn through on one side so i just span it round 180 degrees, drilled a new screw hole and greased it up and its running like new!
Hi Martin Bogle, well done for fixing your appliance. Remember to like and subscribe for more helpful videos in the future.
*****
Yep that worked fine, I just 'Dremelled' the bolts excess off the other side so that they were well below the cover.
Great video, this is a really simple job to do yourself! Saved a small fortune! :)
Thanks Adam, glad to hear you had no problems. 😊
uses standard hotpoint belt hpt1703666 as its stretch belt and is a knack to fit and the extra w denotes its colour i.e white
Re Tina Jones Comments:
If your dryer has three screw heads showing in the centre of the drum kit www.espares.co.uk/product/es546701 is suitable.
If there are no screws showing you will require a kit specifically for the riveted type drum shafts like www.espares.co.uk/product/es1672507
Order the correct type for your dryer.
eSpares
hi
I have the Hotpoint Aquarius TVM562P
when it comes to the kit most suppliers want to know if dryer is riveted or non riveted
how do I know which mine is
as I don't know what they mean
thank you
Depending on the serial number you may have a different shaft kit. If you look at the centre of the drum inside and can see three screws you need:
www.espares.co.uk/product/es546701/ if there are no screw heads showing order this part:
www.espares.co.uk/product/es1672507/
Assuming the catch on the door is undamaged, we would recommend that you replace the whole door lock.
Hi matt thanks for the video you've saved me and my family £180 (price of a new dryer) now the kids get new mattress and trainers. I've subscribed and I'll be reposting. Absolutely fantastic thank you.
ive got this dryer and the door catch broke so i replaced i but then the catch it fitted into was lock from the previous one breaking. i took it apart and then putting it back together it wudnt spin n then took it apart again having a look and now when turning it on it just makes a noise and wont come on please advise
can you show this on a hotpoint tdl30
have recently replaced the shaft and bearing on my indesit .... but has started squeaking again after just a few months. removed plastic cover and bearing worn through again. any ideas why it has gone so quickly ?
And the front pads are they sold as kit or individually on you web site..its not clear…seems like just one.
I've changed the bearing at the back of the drum now it squeaks at the front. Can you tell me what the felt n the wedge things are called so i can try sort this. I cant seem find them in the spares.
Thank you
The front bearing shoes and felt are available separately but this kit is cheaper than them on their own:
www.espares.co.uk/product/es1672017/tumble-dryer-drum-shaft-repair-kit
parts ordered and will be saving a packet on a new dryer thanks to your video 👍👍👍
Hi, thanks for your comment. It's great to hear you are fixing your tumble dryer yourself with our helpful video! Well done for repairing your dryer instead of replacing it!
Hi don't suppose you can give some guidance on changing this on an is70c model?
Hi Darren, we do not have a specific video but it will be either very similar to this but if it does not have screws to remove the drum shaft you need to watch the other video linked at the end of this one:
th-cam.com/video/vMlMqA7O7RE/w-d-xo.html
eSpares thank you. Can you provide an email address so I can show you a picture of the back of my model?
There is no need as you will either have 3 screw heads in the centre of the drum inside or no screws. For your type we believe it is this specific video:
th-cam.com/video/vMlMqA7O7RE/w-d-xo.html to fit the shaft kit:
www.espares.co.uk/product/es1672507/tumble-dryer-shaft-kit
Thankyou so much for sharing this . You have saved me alot of money!!
good video, however please bear in mind a couple of points: This is a brand new machine he is stripping down so everything is easy to undo and strip down. try doing this on a machine that is 5 years old!
If having difficulty refitting the pin make sure you turn the hole until it is vertical and pushing the centre of the drum towards the back of the machine to give a little extra clearance from the bearing will also make fitting easier,
Can i replace my bearing shaft if my appliance is rivited thankyou
Just drill them then prize it off with a flat head screwdriver. I had to do the same.
keep your fingers crossed, after detecting the fault is the front seal & Bearings... i have ordered this from you guys, and will be replaying this video again with plenty of stops... I will repost with an update!......
Good luck Lisa, if the shaft is riveted on see the link in the video to the other video: th-cam.com/video/vMlMqA7O7RE/w-d-xo.html
thanks, exact same model as mine, lovely
Hi Andrew, glad eSpares could help.
Mi eje esta remachado, como puedo cambiarlo ??? Saludos 👋🏼
Would be so much easier if it bolted through from inside!
Hello Team,
Great video excellent.
really help me a lot.
Thanks Juan, hope all went well. :-)
If the drum turns easily with the belt off it may be the motor capacitor that is failing (common problem) so see another video: th-cam.com/video/Vd8DcQpk748/w-d-xo.html
my machine keeps squicking its earpearcing
Check the rear bearing as it may have worn through and need replacing. If the back has damaged the drum shaft replace the parts shown in this video.
eSpares ok will do
:-)
Hotpoint tvm 570 !!
Thank you.
Top job, thank you :-)
:-)
@thyd360pop Because then you a, scratch the front, wich is the side you actually see, you can dent the front, and you are at high risk of damaging the dials and electronics, wich is expensive.
And there is no reason to remove the door.
Clearly he is part of a profitable business. The fact he has had to remove a few fixings to take a door off wouldn't put a company into administration. I think the fact you are taking the time to comment on a video that is aimed at showing people how to fix things their self at home and then making the assumption that this simple 1 minute addition to the job will cost a business money males you a moron. Good day to you!
WD-40 eats right through the sticky goo
Hi MineChris 2008, thanks for the good information☺
NEVER EVER EVER tilt it on it's front!
And why do you remove the door? You just created more work for yourself.
Seroster Why not
Hi
To see if there is a spring that is required and sort the issue please give us a call on 0844 9777 888 with a product number for your appliance and we can take a look at the diagram.
Thanks.
@thyd360pop He wastes time. If he was running a buisniess he would take too much time and go bankrupt
