      I was amazed at how large A Sunday on La Grande Jatte was in person 🤩 Plus there are other sketches/studies from Georges to see, too!

    As a life long Chicagoian and one who has gone to visit the Art Institute of Chicago for over 50 years you did a great job. Your inclusion of Ivan Albright a Chicago artist showed your sensitivety to unique local experiences. Thank you for representing Chicago's , beloved Art Institute .

    There are days during the summer when the museum is free for locals. I went with a friend who lives in Chicago so it was free for her, and I told the person who worked there "I don't live here" fully prepared to pay full price, and the guy just went..."It's alright. Go right ahead." So I got in free!! I was very surprised at the kindness.

    I gotta go there one of these days. I was at McCormik place a long time ago for a trade show, but didn't have time to get out to any of the museums. Thanks for the video! 😎

    In the infamous painting "Sunday Afternoon on the Island of LeGrande Jatte'" by Seurat, no one is looking at one another; I mean they are not looking at anyone's face.... just wondered if anyone else besides me noticed that

      I did, too, Kristin! It’s as if everyone is doing their own thing. I’ve read that it could be because he was criticizing society by showing the different social classes in the same location, but yet they are emotionally distant from one another. I’ve also read that maybe the island was a popular spot for the solicitation of, let’s say….“intimate services” 👀 or that the cold stares are a reflection of his view of a robotic society. There a quite a few thoughts on his work, but what is your interpretation?

      @@FrolicAndCourage I think he was kind of mocking the way of the world- how everyone is so selfish & wrapped up in themselves, they never even think to look at anyone else. Also, when I was at the Institute many years ago, it was so spooky to see American Gothic- it was just kind of 'there' on the wall in the midst of a lot of other paintings. It was so different than the Saturday in the Park, that one was in a room all by itself with a bench in front of it so you could sit there & gaze at it for hours if you wanted to! I think it's different now though, I was there back in 1998.... and sometimes when I see shots of the Insitute now, I can't help but think of the movie 'Ferris Bueller's Day off' !!
      And, yes, I do remember the store Montgomrey Ward! We used to shop there all the time! (Oh, no.....I think I'm showng my age here!)

    Hi! I’m going there in a couple of weeks, do I need to buy my ticket in advance? How many hours should I consider to be there?

    • @FrolicAndCourage
      @FrolicAndCourage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Alex! You don’t have to buy your ticket in advance, but I recommend it to secure your spot - it saves time 👍🏽 How many hours… 🤔 I’d say it depends on how much of an art lover you are 🖼️ We spent a good 3 hours there, but I love art and wanted to look at just about everything. Otherwise, an hour or two should be enough time.

    😂, this is the only art presentation I see where most of the time you see not the object of art, but curator 😅
