  • I put the top 4 clear ice makers available on Amazon, ranked by number of reviews, to the test!
There ended up being a tie for first place, it was neck and neck; until we compared price.
    Our podium finish:
    True Cube - amzn.to/3hePg27
    Berlinzo - amzn.to/3UpGNaK
    Simple Taste - amzn.to/3Nz13o9
Clearly Frozen - not worth the link
Hope you guys enjoyed a little mix up from the standard cocktail videos I make and enjoy your weekend with Reigncane.

All of you in the comments that scoff at my rejection of the flimsy one...please buy it, you'll experience the joy of water spilled all over your counter/freezer. Does it matter if it were to produce marginally more clear ice if it is a hassle to deal with each time? I tested it myself before the video and it was a piece of junk. I had no preconceived bias; I have no affiliation to any of these brands. Apparently, all everyone cares about that leaves comments is to just see the junk - why educate yourself on the junk when you could educate yourself on the great ones?

The guy summarily rejects the highest rated product on Amazon - 4.6 stars - without even trying it, because "I don't care about the quality of the ice it makes." I'm sure he would appreciate an equally insightful review rejecting his vodka based on the shape of the bottle because "I don't care about the quality of the vodka it contains."

Grab the one I rejected from Amazon, I'm sure you'll be unhappy with it. This was an honest review - thanks for watching.

It is exactly the approach I'd expect from someone who takes the most flavoursome raw ingredients in the spirits industry and distills the life out of it to make the least flavoursome end-product.
FYI, if you want clear ice just fill a 5gal cooler with tap water, place it in the freezer without the lid attached, and carve the resulting clear ice with a bread knife. It's called directional freezing and it's the only way to get real clear ice.

You can make vodka from anything containing starch. Organic sugar cane won our blind taste test back in 2017. I hope one day you get to try Reigncane! Cheers & thank you for watching my video.@@SImonSmiles84

I agree that I would’ve liked to see all ice trays reviewed, but the end product is not the only factor and I’d say that build quality is highly important because it determines whether it’s a good value or not and how long it will last or need to be replaced. Plus, it’s his review giving his own opinion, so if he would never buy that product because of its build quality, then he has every right to automatically eliminate that product from testing. Maybe he should if not even mentioned the one he didn’t want to review, but I assume he did because he wanted to let people know why he didn’t include it.

You were too dismissive of the easiest, simplest and cheapest solution. I have a similar one I made up out of an ordinary latex mold and a block of styro. Works just fine. If you leave it too long then the end freezes with bubbles but you just dress end that off or hold it under a faucet. Doesn't do spheres, but it cost $6.99. Thanks for the reviews, but no thanks.

I do not remember if I described my full experience with it or not, but it really was a piece of crap. I tried to use it, filled it with water and as I lifted it up off the counter it was so flimsy it toppled over and spilled everywhere. I would not recommend it. Appreciate you watching!

So basically you dismissed the Clearly Frozen because it doesn't have plastic around the Styrofoam portion like the others do. It's not like the plastic casing the others have contributes anything other than to make them look slightly nicer. I guess I'm not as impressed by plastic as you are; but if you want to pay more money for less capacity plus plastic, go for the True Cubes.

They all had ice and water in the bottom for a reason. That’s how the clear ice is made. Have you noticed that ice cubes from a standard tray are always cloudiest at the bottom while the top is clear? That’s because the impurities are forced to the bottom as the water freezes. These ice makers have a “discard” chamber to catch all of the cloudy ice, while the cubes you want to use remain clear.
You seemed disappointed that they all had that in common, but it’s literally why they work.

It is clear that he does not know how to use the devices. The Berlinzo lacked time in the freezer. And the Clearly Frozen didn't even show the quality of the ice. He only promotes his drink. Very poor video

Clear ice molds is just one part of the equation. Freezer temperature and timing matters. Temperature of the water before you put it in the freezer matters. It's a trial and error until you get it right. And yes, they will all have excess ice and water at the bottom, that's how you get clear ice.

It's very difficult to watch a video from a guy who didn't bother to do the research on HOW ITS MADE LOL. You seem to fumble around with all of the necessary properties that are required to make clear ice in the 1st place. Im no expert but before i make a purchase of ice makers, i lve already watched 3 or so videos on what makes ice clear. Lastly. Its not the ice maker its you sir. An igloo cooler would work just as well provided you dont " YOU " it up. BTW...I say this with all due respect

you should have read the instructions first,, They all freeze from the top down and they all are suppose to have water in the bottom which is the entire principle of all the units, if they are frozen solid then you left them in the freezer way too long. maybe just stick to the vodka

  • @Gastritis2000
    @Gastritis2000 หลายเดือนก่อน

The ice and water in the bottom is needed to carry all the impurities and air that is pushed out of the top when it slowly freezes from top to bottom. So the top can be clear and the bottom contains all the garbage.

It takes a ton of work. Because I have to clean up all the water mess in my kitchen after filling it, and all the frozen water that spilled inside the freezer after using it. It's not worth a dime. I finally switched to True Cube and can't believe how easy it is to get to the freezer without mess. I miss the capacity, but it was driving me nuts.

I use the Clearly Frozen mold, which makes 10 cubes at once, and it works great. Pro-tip: For those struggling with spilled water due to the DTs from too much vodka, don’t fill the mold to the top before putting it in the freezer. Instead, once you place it inside, simply top it off to the fill line using a sports bottle or whatever. Incidentally, the company offers two other mold designs, for use with different sized glasses, which is also cool, literally.

Thanks for the comparison. This comparison barely exists on TH-cam, and I needed these types of details. Would it make sense that the bottom part of the spheres of the Berlinzo didn't fully freeze, and it just needed more time in the freezer?

You didn't leave the Berlinzo in the freezer long enough. Trust me, if there is water in the bottom, it didn't freeze enough. Keep playing with the Berlinzo, and you'll find it makes very clear ice & round spheres once you get the technique down.

@@reigncanevodkaI think that’s the problem. If you follow the instructions, the Berliner needs 24-26 hours to make the sphere, the “simple taste” for example only needs 18. But depends on your fridge. My berlinzo makes perfect ice all the time because I freeze it for the proper amount of time.
