Just ordered the same knife in jungle wear camo today! Can’t wait to try it out 😬 I have the cruwear micarta pm2 and love it but I’m a sucker for fat carbon 😂
I swear on the left side of the knife after the wire stripping there’s a tiny “roll” on the edge. I noticed a slightly different sheen in the first tilt.
Maybe something I missed when looking at it. What I can say is the edge felt pretty much perfect and still flew through phone book paper.
I bet after a few sharpenings, that staple test won't leave any damage at all.
M4 is one of those steels that I always think I've found a better alternative for, then I use it for a few days again and it reminds me why it's so great.
Edit: just found your channel. Subbed.
I bet you're right! Yeah it's good to keep in mind that the performance I saw was with the factory edge, only lightly stropped. I expect performance will increase significantly!
Thanks for watching and commenting 🙏
@@NocturneKnives Hi, any update regarding the performance after a few sharpening?
Hey man, I ended up selling this one unfortunately. But I did get to cut a bunch of cardboard with my edge and it stropped back to like it was when fresh
I also have this SMKW exclusive and have bad luck with it. I've only cut cardboard with it but had severe chipping almost immediately. It took 3 sharpenings to get to better steel and will likely take more to get past its burned edge. I haven't had that experience with the other SMKW PM2 M4 exclusives.
Dang that sucks! As I said in the video, this thing has had insane performance for me! Hopefully you're well into good steel and good performance.
With the edge I put on this, I cut up a bunch of cardboard (enough to lose hair shaving), then gave it a little stropping and the edge came back to 130 bess (as measured by the guy I sold it to recently)
Thanks for watching 🙏
Interesting, is it satin like this or DLC coated? I sometimes wonder if the "bake on" process of certain DLC, interferes with the original heat treatment to some small extent. I know factory grinded edges sometimes ruin the heat treatment & you have to get rid of the "burnt up factory edge" to get the best steel. I have the Jungle Ware in satin & it performs flawlessly but I re-sharpened it on stones day 1. Sometimes people get a burnt out factory edge, where the edge was over heated by a grinder & the knife/steel never gets to see it's full potential because that burnt up edge is never removed. Just my experience. I think these CPM super steels are pretty picky.
I've been considering some Spyderco M4 steel. Stuff is costly. BUT, if it will perform like this under stress it takes a bit of bite out of the purchase price. Stuff seems great. Only concern is corrosion/patina now.
I bought an M4 Native Chief and forced a patina on the entire blade. Super easy and much less corrosion
If there is a better knife blade material then it is magnificent. M4 is a boss and i dont see all the fuss about rust is. Mine is still flawless. But i play and tend to it daily. As i would with any new quality knife
It is a fantastic steel 👍 I've had a few speckles of corrosion if I sweat a lot
K390 is the way to go
That is one I have not had the chance to try yet, unfortunately! Would love to get me hands on some
@Nocturne Knives it's some pretty good steel. I have a spyderco endura in k390 my first time using k390 and I must say I am very amazed by it.
I need to pick up a stretch 2 at some point. That's one of my favorite LW Spydies
I enjoyed your testing of the steel. Looking forward to more testing on other various steels.
Glad you enjoyed!
