There is story to this song,..In an interview Mani Ratnam had said that they wanted to play a Back Street Boys song number ( a brief part ) as part of the song situation (Madhavwn riding the bike),..so it seems the producers (Aalayam / Madras Talkies,..his own production company ) approached the American record label to get the rights. They were stunned and flabbergasted when the record label quoted an astronomical sum as rights fee. The producers felt that amount was way too much pinching to their movie budget, so they dropped the idea and sat with ARR to compose a track similar to ' Back Street Boys ' kind of a number in Tamil and that's how 'Endrendrum Punnagai ' happened it seems.
