Anche Corelli è un lirico spinto, con una voce un poco meno estesa, ma più duttile che gli rende di più in qualche passaggio. Io amo di più Del Monaco, per tanti motivi, di conoscenza, di estensione, di tecnica e di emotività. Questo non vuol dire che un altro non debba preferire Corelli per i motivi suoi.

Two fabulous tenors, surely among the greatest of recorded history. Don't seem to be any of similar vocal and emotional quality these days...at least not to my knowledge. Would love to discover any????
One thing is for certain we will never hear voices like these again. The voices of the current opera singers can't even be remotely compared to these legendary Italian tenors. Their power,their piercing resonance and timbre just give me chills. Greazie mille for sharing this.
It is very difficult to compare this way, there are so many factors involved: Mike placement, theater size and acoustics, quality of recording equipment, etc. Needless to say it would be GREAT!! to have these two performing today. So we agree?
No voice to me is as thrilling as Del Monaco's mountain rocketing voice, god it's epic, earth shattering, dramatic, passionate. I get many praise Corelli more and hail him as the greatest, his color and technique, but for me he doesn't shake my core as Mario, I can't imagine what it must've been like to be at the same venue as him

I would say both have impressive vocal techniques; Corelli clearly can make a bigger sound to make all the drama Del Monaco it's making but Corelli probably knew more drama was not necessary for this song of love, he sings with love and passion Del Monaco sings this and everything else to show what he could do with his voice.

In this comparison, it's hard to decide. Corelli, however, seems to hit the high notes with less effort than Del Monaco. But I could listen to either of them all day.....

Both are fantastic. But hearing them side by side like this, I was surprised that in my opinion, I actually preferred Del Monaco. His voice seemed a bit more consistent throughout his range, whereas Correlli's high seemed a bit more pushed.
Hm. I hear Corelli's top note here more freely than Monaco's. Del Monaco's sounds more flattened. And there's a few comments here where people heard the same.
Love this type of video, so thank you! With two opera singers at this level of skill you can go into an analysis of what each does better than the other etc. but it really comes down to one's individual preference, doesn't it? What do we each value in a particular song or passage and who gives us that value? How one responds viscerally to the sound is also individual. The huge, rich sound of Del Monaco does it for me, if it comes down to sound alone. But Corelli may have been the one who showed the greatest vocal versatility.

It's like when Corelli goes into his high notes his throat goes into a more neutral position and more open and then the notes flow so much smoother when Delmonico goes up it's almost like something's being clenched or squeezed in his vowel becomes more of an e and Corelli is more of an ah and it flows very freely. Corelli also seems to have a very calm unstruggled facial expression anytime he sings.
I agree. MDM uses a dipthong vowel sound to push the voice forward in the face, whereas Corelli's voice is perfectly placed and completely open, with such a wholesome rounded sound. Franco Corelli's technique is wonderful and there is nothing like the pushing going on that there is in MDM's performance; it is a Neapolitan Folk song, not Otello's Act 1 Esultate! However, I do not wish to denigrate MDM, he posses an extraordinary instrument the like of which we would love to hear again today.
Del Monaco used a lot of physical strength when he sang, but did not squeeze. MDM's voice was actually larger than Corelli's, but both voices could fill any opera house.

The differences in the recording is not fair to Corelli, so Del Monaco sounds much better. But if they both were recorded with the same equipment and acoustic then it would be fair. However I still believe this aria suits Del Monaco better, and Corelli in other arias.

MDM was the real Melocchi student, Corelli took a few lesson with him they say, but he adapted the lowered larynx realizing the danger of inflexibility, and inability to sing softy that became MDM's fate

В данном случае оба прекрасны.
Согласен, оба великолепны и у каждого были свои арии, в которых они были лучшими. Но конечно сила голоса Mario del Monaco поражает, странно как в оперных театрах окна не разлетались от энергии его голоса.
У Корелли гораздо более правильная атака верхних нот, манера звукоизвлечения и более естественная мимика, чем у Дель Монако. Но оба прекрасны!
Не будем отрицать , что Галина Вишневская одна из величайших оперных певиц современности. Она пела с Дель Монако и Корелли в Ла Скала. В интервью она сказала : "Я никогда и нигде больше не слышала такого потрясающего голоса , как у Франко Корелли".
Вишневская никогда не пела с Марио!

А если серьёзно, то для того, чтобы сравнить голос двух певцов, нужно использовать запись с одной студии и одного года. Ещё, желательно, точно убедиться, что записывали на одну и ту же аппаратуру.
Поэтому данный ролик не даёт точного представления о мощности голосов этих вокалистов. Это, простите, мухлёж.
The ecoustics are different. Corelli is singing in a television studio, Del Monaco in a theater. Both were incredible, but my heart belongs to Corelli.

La differenza degli acuti tra Corelli e Del Monaco:il primo è più pungente perchè negli acuti la sua voce è più fine,con meno armonici...il secondo ha gli acuti pieni di armonici,quindi risulta più grande,ma ha meno punta...salve
The differences in the recording is not fair to Corelli, so Del Monaco sounds much better. But if they both were recorded with the same equipment and acoustic then it would be fair. However I still believe this aria suits Del Monaco better, and Corelli in other arias.
